Bowl Situation Thread

Can anyone tell me what the trip, via car or even train would be like from Boston to NYC if we end up there? Never been out that direction but may have a way to get to Boston.

Someone's a little demanding. A whole minute between posts how are we supposed to help you like that. :ptongue: Just go and get on a internet map site and type in the places you want to go and that will give a rough idea. Depending on where you are going and starting can make a few hours difference.

The drive isn't bad, at around 4 hours without accounting for traffic. You'd obviously want to avoid typical 'rush hour' times if possible.

Train would probably be a little quicker. Amtrak is not cheap though - if you don't want to drive you should take a look at flights into EWR, JFK and LGA too. Costs for Amtrak may be similar to flights; IMHO, given the same cost and travel time, Amtrak is still preferable for comfort and avoiding airport hassles. Plus, the train stations are all right in the city so you don't have to deal with a cab ride from the airport.

Thanks and sorry. I posted from the app and it didn't show the first time so I didn't think it went through. And I do know about this interweb you are talking about. Just curious about what the trip would be like. Driving from Ames to Lincoln is probably not comparable.

What is the check in like for a train? Never taken one, but I'm assuming its not as bad as airports.

Compared to airports it's ridiculously easy. All you really need to do is get your ticket from a kiosk (I've never had to wait more than 2 minutes for an open kiosk) and then be ready to get in line for boarding about 5-10 minutes before the scheduled departure. Seating on the train is generally first-come, first-served. There is no security to deal with.

The only downside I can imagine relative to air travel is there is really no checked baggage so if you're traveling with a bunch of stuff loading it all on the train could be annoying. That and trains can run late or be canceled just like a flight, though I'm not sure how the the two compare statistically for delays and cancellations.

One other good option to consider is Megabus (megabus.com | Now serving over 12 million bus customers in North America) or Bolt Bus. These are high-end bus companies with pretty comfortable seats and free WiFi that are often cheaper than what you would pay for gas/tolls to drive yourself. They do tend to run a little behind schedule though (often by 20-45 minutes) due to traffic.

I went to a Red Sox game at Fenway this summer and the took a train from Boston to New York to watch them play in Yankee Stadium. Then I took a train from New York to DC. Train travel on east coast is the only way to go! Very comfortable and very relaxing.

Absolutely agree! I live right outside DC and have had to go to NY, Philadelphia, NJ and other places for work, and it's the only way to go. No security, get on the train and go. They have a food car, a quiet car, and every seat has places to plug in electronics. And if you get your tickets as early as possible, they will be cheaper, so always get them as early as you can! Hope that helps.

Did you know that you could take the Amtrak train from Osceola to New York (and on to Boston)? It takes a long time, but it is very spacious and comfortable. It is oddly interesting to see the "rusting" of America. And you can check baggage or take it with you because there is lots of in cabin storage space. If you aren't in a hurry and like to read, Amtrak is a good cheap option. I even take it to Chicago sometimes.

70 teams go to a bowl.

Today, 72 teams are eligible.

Hawaii is on the bubble:

ACC- All in or out.

Big XII- All in or out.

B1G- All in or out.

Big East-
-Pitt 5-6, Cuse left. IN
-Cuse 5-6, Pitt left. OUT
-UConn 5-6, Cincy left. OUT
-South Florida, 5-7, WV left. OUT

Independents- All already in or out.

Pac 12- UCLA- I believe they petitioned the NCAA and will be in a bowl with 6-7 record (assuming they lose to Oregon). IN

C-USA-
All in or out.

MWC- All in or out.

MAC-
-All either in or out.

SEC-
All in or out.

Sun Belt- All already in or out.

WAC-
-Hawaii 6-6. Play 13 games. Must win last game vs BYU.

Only 1 more teams could possibly get eligible. That's 73 possible, with 70 spots.

Just kind of a running tally to help keep track.

(No USC, now no Miami)

Houston loss will open up another BCS spot. TCU will get it if they jump into top 16. They are 18 right now. Could open up a spot for OSU/OU loser, or KSU if they hang on.

With Houston about to lose, it looks like Baylor has the potential to keep 2 teams out of the BCS.

Michigan has to climb to 14 for the BCS
TCU has to climb to 16 for the BCS

If Baylor beats Texas, Michigan could end up at 15 and TCU could end up at 17...

By the way, I don't know if this is possible, but it'd be kind of cool to see 4 future Big 12 teams make BCS bowls this year...2 current B12 teams + West Virginia + TCU
