*****The Super, Mega, Huge Big 12 Expansion Thread*****

I don't get why some of you keep saying that MU will get killed in the SEC. Yes, the SEC has had the last five NC, but if I recall, the Big XII has been the higher rated conference most of the time. This year for sure. Now, if you are all saying that they won't compete because recruiting will suffer and all of the road trips will be new/awkward, then I get that.

Just trying to point out that you are bagging on the Big XII every time you make the statements above.

WVU, I can stop there and get a little nervous about our upcoming schedule.

I don't get why people look at that conference and DON'T want to add Louisville/Cincy when they are a geographic fit to go with WVU.

Winnable, but not horrible football dates. Great basketball but we can compete in hoops with the right coach as time has proven.

This conference is way too ridiculous on football SOS if we keep 9 games. The Big 12 teams will basically be 1-10 every single season in SOS ranking going forward. It's going to end up like that for the most part this season.

I'd prefer all sports, but even if BYU/ND is just football, this conference would be close to the SEC's equal in terms of football quality. It would be superior to the SEC in national marketability and money. It might even pass the Big Ten as the most net profitable conference.

Either of these would be the #1 basketball conference as well. If the ACC takes UConn, the ACC might be the equal of this league but none would be superior.

So long as we're talking about dream scenarios, here's mine:

EAST: Rutgers, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue, Notre Dame

WEST: Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa State, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern

Why was Pitt and other schools not called? Deaton was head AD and looked out for MO instead of doing what he agreed to do when he took it. Bunch of cowards how they preformed in their assignments.

I'm sure you have more than just your well-considered opinion showing HOW Deaton stabbed the conference in the back? Or because since he was selected by the other Big 12 presidents to serve as expansion chair, he should have put that task AHEAD of his responsibility to the people that pay his salary?

I know...if Deaton was honorable, he would have given up the chairmanship as soon as he knew his school was leaving!

Oh wait. That's EXACTLY what happened.

Did Pitt TELL you they were never called about joining? Maybe they were, and they laughed in the Big 12's collective face like Arkansas did. Nobody knows. Let's not spew whatever we can think of without backing it up with some reporting, or least something that fits the facts.

This post alone could make a troll very fat. :smile:

The Big 12 is definitely the second toughest football conference behind the SEC. But honestly I think the SEC is a level above everyone else and has been for the past 10 years or so.

Add to that losing their biggest recruiting state in Texas, Missouri is in for a bumpy ride.

In general you're right, but the Big 12 is better this year.

Kansas is the only team in our league I look at and think ISU has a good chance at a win.

SEC has 2-3 of those teams.

Same thing in basketball, Big 12 is clearly #1. I live near DePaul, they suck worse than any Big 12 team has sucked for a decade, they're an easy win. Big East has some easy wins, Big 12 has none now.

I completely disagree on the basketball. When you have 17 members, like the Big East does, you're bound to have some cupcakes. But for every pasty in that conference, there are 2-3 absolute powerhouses.

Plus, this will be a down year for the Big 12 (which is why many think ISU could have a breakout season); OU is rebuilding, MU, Tech, and A&M are going through coaching changes, KSU will probably be taking a step back, KU is losing players, etc. About the only thing that makes the Big 12 better than it was last year, pound-for-pound, is ditching Nebraska and Colorado. That still doesn't put us on par with the Big East or ACC, though.
 
It seems like we have the possibility of getting much better under CPR while Iowa may start to be impacted with Nebby in their backyard. I think we should keep playing Iowa.

Andy Katz disagrees, or at least he did when we the ten team 18 game schedule was formed. Said it would be the nation's toughest conference.

Going forward TCU has been horrible, but WVU has been better than both Mizzou and A&M. That's a good team we took from them. There are two other killer basketball schools with ADs trying to leave the Big East for the Big 12.

We haven't played a conference game as easy as DePaul in five seasons.

The future of the best basketball conference is Big 12 vs. ACC. Big East will not be in the discussion if it continues to exist at all.

Fine with me, I think BYU is just too much trouble with their 8 year ESPN deal and their no playing sports on Sundays rules. Makes much more sense to continue to expand east to compliment the addition of WVU. Bring on Louisville and Cinncy!

Not mine, considering we all know just how big of ******* kNU, Mizzwho, and CU are. Really don't want to be in a conference with any of them ever again.

As far as Mizzwho, I honestly can't believe they're like the SEC's 5th option. I'm sure the SEC would have rather stuck with 13 teams than add Mizzwho if it wasn't a scheduling and logistical nightmare.
