I've seen other posters state similar things about Cal vetoing BYU membership. We're talking about Cal Berkley right? Can someone fill me in on the background here? TIA

So, OU, OSU, KU and MU would give up its long time history with ISU and the over 1.5 million TV sets it delivers to add Cinncinnati who might not even be able to deliver its own market? I don't buy it.
I hadn't heard Cal specifically, but this article that came out around the last round of realignment indicates the following reasons that BYU wouldn't be invited to the Pac 12:
- The secular institutions in the Pac-10 are wary of aligning with a church-affiliated school
- BYU isn't viewed as a good fit academically because it's not a major research institution
- For religious reasons, the Cougars don't play on Sundays, which restricts scheduling options.
- It makes no sense for the Pac-10 to invite two schools (Utah and Brigham Young) from the same television market.
Haven't heard anything specifically about BYU, but Chip Brown tweeted that Cal-Berkley was blocking the addition of Baylor with the other 3 texas schools to the Pac-10 last summer. Never heard any official source on that though as the Texas thing never actually came to fruition.

IF the Big 12 dies, which I think is unlikely at this point, this is far, far from the conference that Texas and ND would form. Why would Texas and ND pool most of their games/revenue with the likes of the service academies, Cincy, Tech etc.
IF Texas and ND form a conference it will be elite, those are the two biggest programs in college football. And it will be small, because there are few who are even close to equal with those two.

Oklahoma
USC
Biggest 6th they can pull.
That's the conference that makes sense for Notre Dame and the Longhorn Network both.

I would think that the major programs (Texas, OU, ND, etc.) would have to realize the value of not being in a conference where every team they play is a superpower. If they were, even the best team would likely have a couple of losses. It doesn't make sense. Teams like ISU, MU, KSU, KU, Tech, Baylor, etc. have value in that it allows the superpowers to stay superpowers. In most years, Texas/OU/ND will beat those teams.

Actually, this scenario makes absolutely NO sense - you think any of those "elite" teams are going to settle for finishing last when all of them have more than a puncher's chance at finishing first in their current conferences in any given year? Finishing first earns you much more coin than finishing last.
Beebee went on record stating the Big XII wouldn't expand past 10 teams, so I find this hard to believe.

When you are in a 6 team conference you have 7 non-con games to schedule yourself wins. And when you are in a 6 team conference with a BCS a****id, as any conference with Texas/ND/Miami/OK would have, then your road to the BCS isn't any more difficult than any of the 12 team conferences with championship games.
If you think what is driving college football is scheduling more wins, how have you made sense of any of the past year and half? The Big Ten didn't invite Nebraska to up the win count for the rest of its members...
And how is that different than Delany and Scott? I'll tell you how, they have the respect of their schools. Beebe doesn't.
