Jon Miller

You for got the D in Jon D. Miller. I will let you decide what the D stands for. "Pro Tip: Rhymes with bag"

I had tears in my eyes when I read Jon's words in that unedited love letter to Kirk. How could I not. He spent an entire day... edit... he spent and entire hour... edit... he spent an entire 2 or 3 minutes at a practice talking to some guy Miller knows. Fantastic!!!!

I guess that erases all of the embarrassing failures at Iowa under St. Kirk's watch. I wonder if St. Kirk spent 2 or 3 minutes of his time comforting the female that 2 of his players sexually assaulted???? (And NO... trying to keep her quiet doesn't count) I wonder if St. Kirk went and spent time in the hospital comforting the cab driver that his star player assaulted, or how about Jon Beutjer when another teammate decided to assault him over a cable bill, or the ISU student that had his jaw broken by Antwan Allen outside a bar in Iowa City, or did he write a letter to the state of Iowa apologizing for his son living in low income housing when he was the highest paid employee in the state of Iowa, or how about visit any of the other victims of criminal offenses of the players in his program? Hell... he went on a recruiting trip rather then going to visit the 13 players that his S&C coach put in the hospital... so I am guessing he definitely wouldn't have time to visit the victims of his players.

But oh yes... St. Kirk is a man of great integrity that just one story of the gift of 2 or 3 minutes of his time washes away everything else. This kind of story just tugs at my heart strings. Thank you for that wonderful piece Jon. :jimlad:

I read the HN boards every once in awhile. And I did read where he offered a reason for banning you at the end of it. I don't remember what it was, but he made it sound like you, or someone said something slanderous. Whatever, Its his site, and if he wants to only have beergoggled opinions about everything hawkeye then so be it.

I do not post there because I probably would not have anything constructive to add, and the hawk fans would get under my skin too easily. I do like to go and read every once in awhile about anything random that may be there.

Miller actually gave a quick explanation why he deleted another person's post... this was not mine. He gave no reason for my alleged slander..

He runs an Iowa Hawkeye fan site. So what if he only wants to paint Ferentz in a positive light? It's probably the best for his business. He doesn't portray himself to be an unbiased journalist.

This.

Every Cyclone who posts over there makes us look like huge d-bags. With regard to the Hawkeyes, ignorance really is bliss. Stop worrying about them in any way, shape or form and your life will be much better, I promise.

Totally agree. I think the Iowa game is the biggest of our season, but no way do I care what their fans think.

I normally do not post things, but recently a friend sent me this link, which is a Jon Miller essay about how wonderful Kirk Ferentz is.

Here's Why I am an Ardent Ferentz Supporter - HawkeyeNation Forum

After reading it, I added a post on hawkeyenation under this thread stating:

"Every college program does service work for the community that the university is located and every coach does special PR for deserving families. It is wonderful that this special attention was given to this deserving family, but please do not make Ferentz out to be some sort of saint..."

Within minutes, my post was deleted from the thread and when I tried to log back in using my log on, I received the message that I had been banned for no specific reason and the ban would never be lifted..

I could see this type of action if I was inflammatory or inappropriate in some way, but for giving an opinion?

I guess Jon Miller never wants to hear anything negative about his idol....

I liked the link to the photo gallery that showed Hawkeye players in their orange jumpsuits cleaning trash from the side of the road. Community service must have been part of their probation, but they titled it "day of caring." Turning lemons into lemonade.

Better not talk bad about dumb **** Jon Miller because he will berate you on his Radio show for the next week............ Wait

Never mind and Carry on.

He's a hack

I agree with this. Some of you need to either stop worrying so much about what Iowa is up to all the time or grow thicker skin.

Yaman and Cydcar answering recruiting questions makes us look like d-bags?
Whether they look like d-bags to you or me is irrelevant. Hawk fans do not understand logic because it flies in the face of the delusional existence they've created for themselves. In fact, I would say the more cordial, realistic and logical you are the bigger the d-bag you will be perceived to be by them, whether they come out and attack you or not.

If they come over to our board and talk smack, by all means fire away and smash them. But I don't think we have any business wasting time on their boards getting all worked up for nothing. Focus on supporting your own team and to hell with everyone else.

This is coming from a guy who used to feel it was his personal obligation to seek out and destroy any poster on any board who slighted the Cyclones or talked up the Hawks (10 years ago). I finally had to retire from message boards altogether. when I came back a few years ago I vowed I would never again seek out Hawk fans to argue with or to pay any attention to what their fans think whatsoever, and I'm telling you life is much better!

Yeah right. You can't stay away from the sheer awesomeness that is Hawkeye Nation. You can try. But I can guarantee you'll be going back for more.

Funny - I only go around when CF and other internet sites are quiet and not even a mechanized monkey with clashing cymbals is around to keep me entertained...

As far as every college program doing this...I have a very close friend who recently lost his wife. Prior to her death, she was invited to ISU by one of GMac's staff when they heard of her condition. My friends had actually helped set up some basketball camps in this area. My friend and his family received similar treatment as to what you described and meet both basketball staffs(men's and women's) as well as numerous players. The kicker is, a year later, my friend and his family were at a women's game and Coach Fennelly addressed my friend by his first and last name. My friend was not only blown away that BF remembered him but that he remembered his name as well as his kids. Very impressive.

I won't rag on Jon for posting the story about Kirk, because I'm sure I would like to read about the community service Coach Rhoads and the team takes part in around Ames. But to ban someone because of a comment like that? Wow!

I even like Jon, but that's a d-bag move. Just like him comparing Fred Hoiberg to Al Davis.

Oh please! That is no where near as impresive as what the fluffer for Captain Kirk wrote.
