I might be taking a job in Fort Dodge and would like some recommendations from people who live or have lived there.

Should I live in Fort Dodge or commute?
Best/worst elementary schools?
Best real estate agency?
Any decent houses to rent (can't find much on Craigslist)?
Any good restaurants?
Decent day care centers?
Things for a wife and kids to do?

Thanks in advance

Are you serious? Fort Dodge is one of the trashiest places in Iowa. Seriously you need to reconsider.

Or, as we used to call it: Fort Lauderdodge

funny, we used to call it Fart Dodge.

I believe they just put in a new aquatic center on the NE side of town and there's a mexican restaurant that has an all you can eat buffet for lunch thats not bad, don't remember the name though. Good luck.

I am sorry for your loss.

I love people like this. I'm sure they think where they live is just the greatest on earth. I've never understood why people feel the need to put every place that is not Ames or a Des Moines suburb down. Frankly, you all seem like uppity jerks.

I've got family in Ft. Dodge and have fond memories of visiting as a kid. Tons of good hard working people. A blue collar town for sure but good people.

OK, so no one likes Ft. Dodge. What do people know about living in Webster City, Humboldt, Rockwell City, or some of the small towns around the area?

My girlfriend is from Ft Dodge. Definitely has its rough parts, but its not all bad. Just stay out of the flats. The waterpark is fun. As for restaurants, Ive heard Mineral City is good but Ive never had it. I always go to Hardees since Ames doesnt have one

Live in Humboldt. Great little town, great schools and restaurants, close to Ames, des moines and minneapolis. All within 3hr or less drive. PM me I live in Humboldt. Good luck

not enough of an upgrade to justify the commute. There are descent areas of Ft Dodge but yeah its mostly a blue collar town.

I'm a blue collar guy with a white collar career. As long as blue collar isn't white trash, I'm fine with it.

There are some really nice areas in FD, any realtor will show you around and give you tips. Also has some nice golf courses. Like someone else said, stay out of the flats, but your realtor will tell you that.
