Moving to Fort Dodge

I was born in Ft Dodge and my family is from their i moved to Ames when I was 2. Fort Dodge isnt that bad. Yes there are some really rough people and some really rough places in Fort dodge but there is also very nice places. Fort Dodge is also working very hard to renew their image. Re doing the hospital, tearing down trashy buildings, Iowa Central has been building new buildings lately, and the Harlan Rogers baseball fields are very nice. Overall the town is on an upswing from earlier years. unlike Burlington, Ottumwa or Webster city who are on definite down swings. The north side elementary school is fairly nice and they are building a new Middle school. St.Edmonds is an option but it is very snooty and for the quality of education it cant compare to the public school. They also opened a new Aquatic center near the Target. The Library is also pretty nice.

Fort Dodge has had some hard times in the last 20 years. Public and Catholic schools.
Shopping not real great. Applebees Mineral City, Marvin Gardens and more. You want a 7 figure house they have them. Some people move kids out of public school to St Eds Catholic or neighbering schools.
When you get there go to Skinny Vinny's in Dakota City, twin to Humboldt great food.

I live in Fort Dodge. When I moved here, Egemo realty managed a rental house that I rented. If I had to do it over, I would still be renting. The market is very soft for houses, so unless you plan to be here for the long haul, I would not buy. It is very hard to sell a house if you have to move. Webster City lost a ton of jobs recently, so I would imagine a soft market there too. There is not alot to do in Fort Dodge, most of the time.
