The Truth (with no dare involved) .........

Yes, there is a rowing team, but it is a club sport. We still competed against schools with the resources of 'official' athletic teams though.

I gotcha. Kind of like the hockey team.
In 69-70, the Big Eight was not goiong to be adding any more Varsity sports, and at the time Hilton had been constructed to allow ice to be made in the coliseum. Well, we couldn't very well compete against Varsity athletes, so they formed a hockey club and eventually built their own facility. Al Murdoch was, and still is the coach of that team. We actually went to the hospitals and clinics to give blood to raise money for the Hockey Club back then.
True story.

Grew up listening to ISU basketball on AM radio. Saw Grayer, Hornacek and the guys play a scrimmage as a kid which rocked.

I spent 4 years in Marching Band, with my last game that 1991 classic ice bowl against Colorado. Also a couple of fun years in basketball pep band with many memorable games, and my last game was Fred Hoiberg's first season NCAA appearance where they lost to Kentucky but played darn good anyway.

Road-tripped to the first Insight.com bowl where we won. Went to 4 different wins over Nebraska in football, including getting in free to the 1992 win. Got too close for comfort to a tornado in the 2005 Colorado gameday but did make it to Ames for one of my favorite wins ever.

Lots of Cyclone memories on this thread. Some very good ones.

No cool stories of friends or relatives that were athletes, even in club sports. But never missed a home mens BB game while I was a student-none! ...and made several road trips to cheer for them. Used to have Big 8 tourney tickets also-shoulda never gave those up!

Farmer, you are just fine. We don't want necessarily cool stories about athletes, just how you became a Cyclone fan................... the what and the why. Most of us were from the dark side untill we became "elightened", but as you can see here, many have been fans since they were born.
I lost all regard and respect for the dark side when they fired Tom Davis.
Not cool. He was a very nice man and a good coach. Now they treat him like the best thing since sliced bread. Two faced ********.

My first game when I was 8 was one of the earliest usages of overtime to break a tie in NCAA history(ISU vs. Wyoming 1996), it is also probably the only time in NCAA history that a team chose to take the ball first. Been hooked on the Cyclones ever since, still have the stub somewhere in my parents house.

I'm a legacy marching band member, and my brush with greatness concerns the infamous story of the "Varsity" incident. My mom was there when it happened, so I knew the truth long before I became a member.

I am sorry. I guess I am not familiar with the "Varsity" incident. Is this something that can be told without getting into any sort of trouble? I lead a very sheltered life, I guess.
Congratulations on your legacy membership. Band members rock, and work extremely hard.

GO CYCLONES:yes:

I wasn't aware of that decision to take the ball instead of go on defense first. That would take some kahones (sp)
Thanks for bringing it to our attention and sharing.

Enjoyed a few drinks at Tradewinds with/for Gar Forman's going away.

My entire family loves the Cyclones. My uncle used to take me down to bball games when i was a little kid and we have had ftball season tickets for years. Next year i will become the 4th cousin in the second generation of my family to become an Iowa State student.

I graduated from ISU recently, My brother and his wife have graduated from ISU, and my gf graduates in under a year.

My cousins are the Scott family that wrestled for ISU, most recently Aaron Scott.

I think I can speak for many here, that you will really enjoy your college experience at ISU. I know I did.
The campus is beautiful, and the Athletic teams are really on the rise. I hope your chosen field of study is a real strength at ISU.

Excellent.
Can we all expect some real wrestling insight from you, or have you been contributing all along, ........ and it is my bad?
Congratulations on your degree.
