Touche. One thing Dr. Tom was notorious for is that he never adapted his system to include covering 3-point shooters. If you had a good one, they would go off against Iowa.

He hasn't coached a winning team for 5 years. You want your kids playing for a loser? I would take Floyd or Eustachy over a loser any day of the week!
I think McD will do much better at Creighton then he did at ISU. If my kid had a Creighton level of talent, then yes I would consider McD to coach my son. Having said that though, if my kid was Harrison Barnes, no way.
Problem with this thread is most are comparing apples to oranges. It all depends on the skill set of your kid!

If you really want to get pure, why not bring back the peach basket and two-hand set shot. We could do away with the dunk and three-pointer, as well. Really get things back to the way Dr Naismith intended.
Here's a thought: In a couple years, when we're back in the tourney and Creighton is watching from home.......do you think GMac will come to our first round game instead of going on the recruiting trail for his current team?

Stuart Smalley was a nice guy too, but I'm guessing he would suck as a basketball coach. Never had anything against Greg personally and wish him all the best, but he didn't have the goods.
Greg's class after a tough loss in what has to be the preconference game he most wanted to win shows his character. Maybe things didn't work out here, but he was always honorable and tried his best. Have you been successful at everything you ever attempted in life? It was just a poor fit for both. It looks like everything worked out for the best for everyone. I wish him the best. Character counts in my book. That is why even though it could be said of the one who will not be named was just a poor fit and may yet prove to be a good coach. I have no respect for him, and will always root against him.
So as a purist you truly don't care for watching fast break players like Magic Johnson in the NBA or Tinsley while he was at ISU? To me that is pure basketball beauty perfected, just took a relatively young sport several decades to fine tune it in the 70s and 80s. Fast break basketball era = forward pass football era. It's here to stay.
Despite playing more uptempo, Fred's team seems to be fundamentally stronger defensively (just 4 games though) than last year's more physically gifted squad. We can be an uptempo, offensively aggressive team and still be disciplined defensively.
If it was also his alma mater and I believe also the future planned school of his son, probably. That story was overblown.
If that was Greg, a better handle would be number 11 or number 10. :spinny:
I've got no problem with Greg. He was apparently in over his head here. He seems like a good guy, and with the right players, I think he will do fine at Creighton. His "management style" just doesn't seem to fit with the 4 & 5 star players that he needed to compete in the Big 12. It does seem to mesh with the 2 & 3 star hard nosed gym rats, and that's what he can win with in Creighton like he did at UNI. I wish him the best, but I'm glad that he's gone and that we beat him...
But he is apparently good enough to be a senator now. :yes:

Great defense of GMac. This Thursday, when you all sit down to Thanksgiving dinner, tell him that I said that you should get first dibs on the turkey for being such an ardent defender of his honor on an ISU message board.
If Greg was still our coach for the game yesterday, I'm sure we don't win that game. Fred has these guys playing harder and being mentally tougher. It doesn't seem like we ever came back from a big deficit to win when GMac was here.
