I would play for him anytime..........

Mac is a GREAT MVC coach. He will get them to the NCAA tourny. Thats all Creighton wants. Then all Mac has to do is put together a couple good games in the tourny and everyone will think hes god (at least at creighton). Its a perfect fit for Mac as he will do a fine job at Creighton.

Obviously the jury is still out for GMac at Creighton until he gets a few more of his own recruits and we see the results. He does have some nice players there now, and if they shoot lights out like they did yesterday, they will win a lot of games.

I thought maybe you were going to post this

Ahhh yes, more celebrating of a man who couldn't go .500 here.

We get it, he's a nice guy. Nobody denies that.

lol I was looking for the Pelini pic, too....

Sure, especially if you liked losing. Worst basketball coach in conference play in ISU history.

Quick, see how Wesley Johnson or Justin Hamilton or Lucca Staiger or Dody Dunson or Corey Johnson feel about Greg. Would they be all hugging it out too?

Seems for every JVDB there are about 4 or 5 guys that would tell Greg to get lost.
Inoticed you forgot Mike Taylor. He was one a stupid college kid that cared about nothing but himself. He credits GMac for changing his life. Brackins doesn't have much bad to say either.

don't get me wrong, I am glad we have Hoiberg and GMac is a better fit for Creighton where he doesn't have as big of egos to deal with.

Two thoughts about this:

1) "Running plays" doesn't make a basketball game any more pure than a complete lack of plays.

2) If you watch the game, our guys actually run some plays.

You can still feel pure while enjoying a style that's flexible enough to succeed.
IIRC- Coach Hoiberg stated they have installed very few plays and work more on spacing. Was hoping to install plays shortly and hoped they didn't need them. Dribble Drive Motion is more about pentration and kicking out than set plays and we run a form of DDM...do we not?

We do, but we have plays. Just trying to let the guy know that he didn't have to feel like his basketball purity was in question if he enjoyed Freddie-ball.

I would not play for him. Well I would but then I would transfer after a year.

This is the correct answer.

If all we are looking for is a "nice guy" who "gave it his all" than we can hire one of the millions of nice guys off the street and pay them 40k a year to coach the team. I don't understand why Mcdermott gets extra credit for "being a good guy" and "trying hard"... that should be a given for anyone. That should be the baseline of expectations, not something you are rewarded for. Your supposed to be a good person and you are supposed to try hard at your job, its not anything exceptional.

You are right. Big 12 athletes don't want to run plays and be team players....FH freelance game will work though I don't care for it as a basketball purist.

That makes no sense. As a basketball purist you should love a more uptempo style where playes are allowed to show off their basketball skills, much better for a purist than a team that relies on running the shot clock down, slowing the game down, and a myriad of set plays. Mcdermott's style of packing it in on defense and slowing it down on offense creates a very ugly style of basketball to watch.

If you win games, I don't think people care what style you play. I don't think you'll see Coach Cal winning games anytime soon by grinding them out, but Coach K will try to win them with lock down defense and waiting for not just an open look, but the right look.

Like you would know. You probably think dunks are fun to watch.

Simpleton. You are no match for our upper-level fans.

Wow, this guy has 27 posts, 25 of them defending Chewey.

I am sure that by now, the ogre has all of his lackies on the Creighton boards defending him, and telling them all is well.

It's good to see that he gave you permission to come back to the Iowa State boards, and tell us how great he is.....But it is unnecessary, we have all seen what he really is.

Its true. In 4 years I was never smart enough to grasp why Gmac's offense (which consisted of our players standing around until there was 10 left on the shot clock, then an ineffective ball screen, then CB launching a 20-foot fadeaway or someone else chucking up a 3) was a work of pure coaching genius, much better than any other style.

Heck, I am even slow enough that I find Hoiberg's offensive style, consisting of ...Gasp... actual motion on offense, fast breaks, hard cuts to the basket, and real use of spacing, to be superior to Gmac's genius offensive system.

In all serious though, I love the way we move on offense now. Man was I tired of watching the lack of real movement in Gmac's offense (and being told that his system was great, it was just our players fault they couldn't run it).

I love everything about now.
But some of CBs fadeaways were only 12-15 footers

That was a tough style to watch. Seeing him take out 2 hot three-point shooters at the same time yesterday was predictable and incredible. I am so glad that Fred doesn't have that streak in him.

Of course, I've never seen anybody who had that streak in him like Greg did. It was unbelievable.

Freddieball is fun. I want to see more of it.

I just watched 4th and 5th grade boys run a form of the Dribble Drive offense. They had absolutely no size but it was a joy to watch. They rolled the other team who was pretty good and had a nice post player. These little buggers penetrated and kicked it out like nobody's business. You have to hit shots, of course, but if 10 year olds can drain 3s I think 19 year olds can if put in the right position to succeed.

But would you want to play for this coach?

15-16 6-10 T-7th
14-18 4-12 11th
15-17 4-12 10th

Call me crazy but I see alot more movement away from the ball, crisp passes, and guys diving on the floor this season than the last four and to me that is very unselfish. Maybe somebody needs to get a new hobby besides scurrying to the board to defend the indefensible.

You can't trust your eyes, man. They aren't pure from watching unblemished basketball.

You may want to check with some older Iowa fans. Tom Davis was notorious for that. The only difference was that he won about 20 games/season with his "system".
