Cyclone Fanatics,

The media will have you believe this is a down year for the Big XII and that its not a top level conference this season, this is not the case if you do the math on the average rankings based on last weeks CBS Sports 120 which ranks all FBS Teams from top to bottom.

Below is an explanation: Conference, Average Rank of Teams (AR), T25 = # of Teams in Top25, B25 = # of Teams in Bottom 25, Hi# = Highest Ranked Team, Low# = Lowest Ranked Team. BE = Bowl Eligible Teams.

#1 - SEC - AR=39(38.833); T25-6; B25-1; Hi#2 Auburn; Low#104 Vanderbilt BE=8
#2 - BigXII - AR=42(42.0); T25-5; B25-0; Hi#7 Nebraska; Low#90 Kansas BE=7
#3 - Big10 - AR=44(43.909); T25-3; B25-1; Hi#5 Wisconsin;Low#99Minnesota BE=7
#4 - Pac10 - AR=49(48.7); T25-3; B25-0; Hi#1 Oregon; Low#91 WSU BE=4
#5 - ACC - AR=50(49.583); T25-4; B25-1; Hi#19 VaTech; Low#98 WF BE=6
#6 - FBS-I - AR=52(51.67); T25-0; B25-0; Hi#38 Navy; Low#65 Army BE=2
#7 - BigEast - AR=56(56.375); T25-0; B25-0; Hi#35 Syracuse;Low#83Rutgers BE=3
#8 - Mt.West - AR=65(65.67); T25-2; B25-4; Hi#4 TCU; Low#119 New Mexico BE=4
#9 - WAC - AR=67(67.44); T25-2; B25-3; Hi#3 BSU; Low#118 SJSU BE=4
#10 - C-USA - AR=75(74.83); T25-0; B25-3; Hi#39 UCF; Low#116 Memphis BE=5
#11 - MAC - AR=85(84.62); T25-0; B25-7; Hi#26 NIU; Low#120 Akron BE=5
#12 - SunBelt - AR=103(102.56); T25-0; B25-7; Hi#94 FIU; Low#114 WKU BE=0

Iowa State is #69 - Wins over #26 NIU, #64 Texas, #55 Texas Tech, #90 Kansas, FCS #12 UNI; Losses to #22 Utah, #15 Oklahoma, #32 Iowa, #45 K-State, #7 Nebraska, and #80 Colorado. For the #15 SOS according to them.

Looking forward to people's thoughts.

Not a down year at all in the B12. As a matter of fact, the conference strength as a whole is stronger with more parity. The media does not know any better, because they believe that since the traditional powers are not as strong this year that the conference is weaker. The top teams in the conference have rotated this year.

Has the media really been saying that, much? I've barely heard it this year. Big 12 is having a strong this year. The simple fact of Texas being down isn't the story. Oklahoma State is 9-1 and in everybody's top ten as the best team in the south to date, clearly and easily playing the role of "Texas" this year.

People who base their opinions only on the best known helmet logos are simpletons.

Consensus rankings for this week according to Massey (119 different sources calculated in):

8) Okla State; 10) Nebraska; 13) Mizzou; 14) Oklahoma; 18) Tex A&M; 30) K-State; 34) Baylor.

Five of the top 18 and seven of the 34 is a down year? That a steamy pile of ********.

so any dissenting thought of ISU, Big 12, coaches, athletic department, etc automatically means "Hawk Fan"? You, sir, are the childish one.

All you do is trash anything ISU or Big 12 related on a Cyclone website. How sad must your life be that find enjoyment in that?

Francis is absolutely right.

It is a down year if you consider that we will not have a team playing in the BCS Championship. But considering we have only won 1 championship in the last 5 times we have played in it, that might not be a bad thing to not play in it this year.

As a whole, I think the conference is much better this year, there is more parity, and each week has been a battle for almost every team no matter who they are playing.

So the national perception is not as strong, but I think this is maybe one of the strongest and best years of the big 12.

Sagarin has Missouri as #10, near nebraska at #8.

What a way to end the regular season.

Francis is absolutely right.

Why don't you take a look at his other posts on the site before you start defending him. He's a level one troll. He spends his time on this site trashing anything ISU and Big 12. Also, he's used the Francis quote from Stripes before. He's not even original in his trolling.

*edit: I thought you were being sarcastic Velo, but now see you were agreeing with me. My bad. I still feel the same way about ameshammer though.

it is a down year in big 12, don't kid yourself (just look at Texas)

It's possible for the Big 12 to be the 2nd-4th best conference even in down years. It's been generally second to only the SEC for a good decade now.

Texas is down, but there are still 4-6 Big 12 teams in the BCS top 25 every single week. That's not a weak conference no matter how much you pee your pants hoping it is.

It is a down year for the SEC, don't kid yourself (just look at Florida).:jimlad:

You see how silly that looks. One team does not make a conference and just because a traditional power is down doesn't meanthe conference is down as a whole

I'm guessing velo was agreeing with you. I looked at hammer's posts and while not overtly trollish, he does seem to take a negative slant towards ISU anytime Iowa is brought up.

As far as the Texas thing is concerned, WTF? Texas getting destroyed by the teams of the Big XII means the Big XII is having a down year? ********. Someone is just still depressed about the loss to Northwestern.

On a team by team basis the Big 12 is doing alright
Just looking at whether teams are performing better, worse, or as expected by the general media

Nebraska -I'd say better considering the offense has really surprised people with Martinez. As expected isn't a reach though.
Mizzou-as expected
KSU-Better.
ISU-Better than expected
CU-Worse to as expected.
KU-worse. they had a real head scratcher of expectations for the year.

Basically a couple questionable teams in the north haven't gotten it done this year.

Oklahoma State-Better
Oklahoma-as expected to a little worse. Many predictions had Texas as the top South team.
Baylor-better
ATM-as expected to a little worse. 2 games left to really decide where they ended up.
TTU-as expected. TTU wasn't highly regarded coming in and pegged as a 7-5 type team
Texas-worse

The nation is just not accustomed to not seeing Texas in the mix. OU has slipped up a little. The rest of the south is either exceeding expectations, or on par.

Now that I read it again, you're right. I thought Velo was being sarcastic but the absense of the sarcasm pirate makes it clear he was agreeing with me. My bad.
