ISU -Iowa Post Game Thread

If we play how we played the first half today the WHOLE GAME next week against Toledo...I think we can win.

Also, being in the band, down at field level...when we blocked that field goal, and when Bates caught that pass...I've never heard JTS that loud either. And I was at the Colorado game in 2005, the one that a lot of people may have been the loudest.

I'll be eating crow tonight, too...I predicted 31-7, Iowa. But as far as I'm concerned, that doesn't matter.

CYCLONE STATE!

One of the worst things for me during the game was the fact that I was sitting near the south end of the stadium, and had a bit of trouble seeing exactly what was going on in the 1st quarter. ISU held the Squacks so well that they never got much closer than the 35. I can live with that though! Never expected to see such great D, and they kept it up through most of the game. Great game, 'Clones!

Got stuck at work most of the day, but this win made that lousy situation much much better! Great job to the Clones and congrats to Coach Chizik. I will have a celebratory beverage this evening as I'm grilling burgers.

And thank goodness I'm not a Notre Dame fan...

Awesome, awesome win! Hopefully a springboard towards a successful season. Now, I don't want to sound like a wet blank, but... we need to win next week to validate this huge win. But I won't start worrying about that until about Friday night. Time to enjoy this one!!

Winning this game also brings instant credibility to Chizik as a coach. He has his first win as a head coach...and he did it in the state's biggest game. It took Mac like 4 years to beat Iowa, and he stayed to coach for 8 more largely on the strength of winning this game alone. This one game has exorcised many demons for us... we may not win that many games this year, but dammit it's going to be fun in the future.

I understand that there were a lot of visiting recruits there. Anyone in a position to give some insight on what the impression was on them? Chizik is the boss, and gets the credit, but Bolt and McFarland obviously out coached their high priced EIU counterparts. If we continue to improve, this season could be the beginning of great things for ISU!

Exude class tonight guys

Celebrate and have a good time, but remember that "we are Iowa State". Our secondary played great today, especially coming up and stuffing Iowa's run game. Keep the faith, good things to come. Let's get one in the Glass Bowl......

Just playing devil's advocate here, but is anyone concerned that we're still only averaging 14 points a game on offense? Granted, Iowa's defense is going to be the thing keeping them afloat this year, but we won't be able to win many game this year unless we can take advantage of those with young offenses.

Airwalke dude..you're bumming me out with the negativity.....

I understand. :biglaugh: I'm counting on improvement for the rest of the season, and aside from Oklahoma and maybe Colorado, we won't be facing any defenses tougher than Iowa's.

I'm completely thrilled with the win and will take it any way I can get it but you have a valid point....we need to punch into the endzone for 7 if we want to be competative in the future. I have faith that that will happen.

I was very happy to see us go 5 wide at times. With the receivers we have I had pre-season hopes that we would use them all and today we did. Great to see that.

(If we have already used that formation during UNI and KSU games, then never mind. Today was the first game I actually saw this season.)

A couple of thoughts after finally making it home from the game.

We are now both 7 W's out of 10 games AND have won 2 of the last 3 games. I wonder how they will be spinning this little fact.

Had two trader season ticket fans who sold todays game to 3 obnoxious Hawk fans. I will talk to them in 4 weeks by the way, but back to my story. The first half was prime example of typical Mr Hawk fan as every time we got a first down it was because we were holding or for sure a block in the back was happening. According to them, bunches of penalty's against ISU was not being called.

Had a lot of fun making fun of the sore losers and even came close to getting in a couple fights and had beer bottles thrown at us. I will say though that I talked to quite a few decent Hawk fans who actually said we were the better team. Let me repeat that people. These hawk fans actually said WE WERE BETTER. Ink that into the record books.

We looked great in about every facet of the game and I was so happy Shaggy got redeemed today and hope this is the start of a very successful rest of the season for him. He showed much class in his post game interview, as did everyone else for that matter. GREAT JOB CLONES.....I am trying to type loud because my voice, for all practical purposes, is toast for the next few days.

It was also great driving home and listening to sound off on WHO. Jon Miller even had to hang up on Tommy!!!!! It was filled with quite a few meltdowns and I have to give Jon Miller kudo's here because he defended our Cyclones very respectfully in his time of mourning, even though he was having to deal with quite a few Hawk fans having trouble dealing with reality.

We had one major league a-hole sitting about 20 feet from us. He actually got in the face of one of the members of the 77 Peach Bowl team. The old Clone put him in his place, but still, no class at all.

I can't wait to post my DMJuice blog. I gotta sober up first though before I write it but after all the smack talk the Hawkeye bloggers talked I can't wait to throw it back at them. Nothing better than some humble pie for guys that talked about how much ISU sucks and how we'd get blown out today. I got so much anti-ISU emails and trash talk this week it will be sweet justice they get some of it back.

Re: Did we

You tell me that we lose or even tie in turnovers and still win, I'd have laughed my arse off.

Even more reason to be impressed by the D today.

Not only that, but if you knew we would lose the turnover battle and not score a touchdown, and we still win?

We turned it over more then Iowa, we didn't score a td, and we won a game off a fg. Hell has probably froze over.

But easily, the MVP was the Defense. No question about it. Not like iowa is a world-beater team. But to hold them to 13, a first half shutout, is just unbelieveable and undoubtly the reason we won.

Still worried to no end that we can't put the ball in the endzone and only managed a single score (FG) in the second half.

But live it up tonight boys. Big win - can't underSTATE that.

I agree. We scored zero TDs, had a turnover, and 300 total yards isn't the greatest.

Defense gets an A today. Shaggy gets an A. Offense gets a C+ or B-.

While our offense didnt' score a TD, I honeslty didn't think they looked bad. I don't remember the last time we had an offensive line provide that good of protection. We weren't great running, but that was expected. Iowa has an excellent defensive line (and defense in general).

We had a hard time finishing drives in the end zone, but you have to tip your cap to Iowa's defense. Our drives didn't get stalled by penalties or dropped passes. They just stopped us. We got close a couple times, like on that corner route to Blythe. We did score 500% more points than their defense had given up all season.

I loved the few times we threw the long ball to Blythe. We have not seen that for a long time. Also, that would of been the most incredible reception if Todd would of hung on to that TD. It was right off his fingers.
