Another recruiting MISS

If people think players are leaving due to posts on this site they have the Greg McDermott blinders on! This is the funniest thing I have read all day! :biglaugh:

Back in the day, Jim Walden spent an entire press conference telling all the assembled media about how ISU was a coaching graveyard, and that ISU would NEVER hire a coach that won consistently for a number of reasons. He was fired a few weeks after this presser.

I bring this up because even Coach Walden would have to admit that blaming a message board for a coaching staff's inability to recruit AND retain players is THE DUMBEST IDEA SINCE CAYENNE PEPPER -FLAVORED EYEDROPS.

The only reason that this ever gets brought up is because someone accuses the postings on this site of being the reason we are not doing well in recruiting.

If this is true, it should follow then that any site of another university similar to this one that has negative posts would also be impacting their program in the same manner...would it not?

The blunt reality is that most of the other sites I have seen are far, far more negative than this site has ever been and they are top programs getting top recruits every year.

Or maybe you are going to tell me that this phenomenon only is impacting ISU...is that it?

That's the difference right there. ISU is not similar to KU or UNC when it comes to basketball achievements. It is not even close.

Not apples and apples.

Well, you are right about one thing. There's no way in hell the AD at NC or KU would let their programs go to seed as badly as ISU has. This sort of acceptance of mediocrity at either of those schools would be grounds for firing, burning in effigy, and relocation to the Jackalope, Utah office of the US Marshall's Witness Relocation Program.

100% Correct. Can't believe people actually think that recruits aren't coming because of what people are saying on here.

A buddy of mine is in the athletic department at a D2 school with a very strong basketball program and he is telling me that amongst the college coaching groups that ISU is considered a mess and that is coming up even in the D2 recruiting trail. They have been using this as fire power for a kid to accept a scholarship at a D2 instead of a possible walk on invite to Iowa State or D1 program in trouble. Not saying that D2 schools are out recruiting ISU right now just pointing out the fact that smaller schools are using ISU as an example of things that can go wrong if these kids accept a walk on offer to a D1 school.

Say you're new to town. Prom is coming soon.

You meet a girl and get along with her great. She is a little overweight, but not enough to make it a deal-breaker in your mind.

She asks you to go to Prom with her, and you say you are interested.

On Monday, you go to school and tell some people about your invitation to Prom. They immediately start calling the girl "Moby ****" and emphasize all her failed relationships in the past.

After reflecting on their feedback, are you still interested in going to Prom with her? Do you trust your initial instincts or are you influenced by these third-party reports?

Message boards matter. Obviously, the best course of action is to lose the extra pounds next year so the problem goes away, but that doesn't help in getting a date this spring.

It's posts like these that are the reason that Harrison Barnes will be in Carolina blue next year instead of cardinal and gold!

I hope you are happy with yourself!

You have got to be kidding...and here I thought only Scott Drew at Baylor engaged in such scrupulous recruiting methods.

Except for the fact that these kids are hearing ISU being called "Moby ****" by people in the coaching circles not just here on message boards.

Dude...I think the prom date discussion is supposed to be happening in the "Off Topic" section of the site...this is the MBB section.

You lambast the guy because he states that message boards do matter to recruits. Then this golden nugget! You are saying (to benefit your own argument) that they do in fact matter greatly. Nice....

Well, if she killed a whole ship full of sailors AND dragged Captain Ahab to his watery death, then maybe you SHOULD reconsider taking her to prom. She might mistake you for a school of krill, and then you're screwed!

(I freaking LOVE* desperate hypothetical questions)

* - LOVE in CYlent Bob-speak usually means "loathe, with the blinding heat of 20,000,000 suns".

Wow...I guess you really do have to post with that pirate smiley if you want some on this site to be able to identify sarcasm.

I'm thinking that if you step back and look up, you'll see the sarcasm from his post flying over your head...

They can probably scrimmage too. McDermott made his bed with Wesley Johnson now he must lay in it, sad part he is bringing Cyclone basketball down with him. I am with Deace and Miller at this point his successor is doomed to fail.

It amazes me that so many here want to blame the players, the fans, the assistant coaches, staff, Wayne Morgan, LE, Tim Floyd, this website, Cyclone Alley, Veishea, the tooth fairy........everything........but they never seem to want to put any blame on the man in charge.......GMac!
