Jeff Woody

How many white walk on RB's from Iowa are dominating today in college football?

(crickets chirping)

Jeff Woody + starting RB = recipe for being a bad team

You just don't get it do you? Nobody said he was going to start. Nobody said he was going to get significant time at running back. Nobody said he was going to win the Heisman.

Good grief man.

Jeff Woody should never be the starting RB for ANY D1 football team. (if your expecting to be good)

Like his attitude, may be more of a role player, but I doubt he ever starts.

Koch should never of been either, but i remember him doing quite well in place of stevie hicks one year... ;) When i here someone say never, i think the opposite. Sounds like he will be playing. Kobe was once told he didnt have a left hook, and well the next play he did one and made it... Dont tell hard working, great people never... Jessie Smith should never be a starting middle linebacker for a Big 12 school either... oops!

Again, name a walk on RB from Iowa thats starting and having any amount of success in college football.

Jeff Woody was recruited by a lot of D2 schools as a walk on, and many D3 schools.

Like I said, love his attitude, but you have to be realistic, he's not a starting RB for any team thats worth a darn.

There are plenty of players from the State of Iowa that were succesfull college players... who cares what position this one is at... The article also metioned several other places he can play. Dont be a duesher.

Very disappointing attitude.

He is an in-state walk-on. Any contribution he makes to the team is pure profit. It is great to hear the good pub on him but don't get your expectations too high.

I too sincerely doubt that he will ever be the starter, but he doesn't need to be. Even if he doesn't play much, his positive attitude and work ethic can be infectious and help the team.
Rudy, Rudy... I mean Woody, Woody...

I guess i didn't know being white and from Iowa meant you had no business being a running back. Did it ever cross your mind that this may be the exact reason he got overlooked? I don't think he will start either, but if he does it's because he is good enough to. Period.

He definitely won't start. To think otherwise is idiotic, and it doesn't even have anything to do with him.

new saying for next year in short yardage situations.... LAY THE WOOD! (Give it to woody)

We used to scream "Give it to Kock! Kock wants to score!!"

Inches to go for the 1st? Kock will get you 3.
Need 2 yards? Kock will get you 3.
Need 7 yards? Kock will get you 3.

Minus the Missouri game in 06, the guy was automatic. Everyone in the stadium knew he was getting the ball lol.

It has nothing to do with disliking him, I don't even know him.

I agree if he can help out on special teams, fine, but if we need to rely on him at RB, were screwed.

Still waiting for the best white walk on RB from Iowa...

You might have to go back a few decades for that.

Still waiting for you to grasp the concept that not a single line in the article, nor a single post said he was ever going to start, or that ISU was going to rely on him.

His stated goals are to contribute, which is achievable. Quit being a db.

Maybe the best white walk on RB from Iowa.....will be Jeff Woody.

I don't know about "relying" on him, but I think that he WILL play this year. We'll see him in some two back sets. We'll see him on some short yardage plays. We'll definitely see him on special teams. We could see him playing some H-Back in motion as a blocker. I wouldn't even be surprised to see him in on some 3rd and longs in pass protection. That's more than you can expect from most RSFR scholarship players. Now, if you are talking about relying on him to be the feature back like ARob is, then I'd agree. He doesn't have the skill set to be a full-time feature back in this offense.

Woody seems to have a good attitude and is a hard worker. I'd bet money that by the time kickoff comes around in 2011, he'll be on scholarship.

Sam Brownlee from Emmetsburg led the Hawks in rushing in 2004 and they finished 10-2 with a Capitol One Bowl victory. Chris Ulrich from Ft.Dodge ISU 17 carries for 105 in 1992 vs Nebraska, bad team record but he was a 2 year starter and leading rusher in 1992
To all the people who were trying to ignore this lame *** question I apologize. I am pretty sure that a bunch of idiots thought the Hawks were doomed that year as well because they had a white starting RB from Iowa who was a walk-on. Just like they were wrong are wrong too. If Woody ends up starting this year due to an A-Rob or who ever else injury he will be fine.

By default, not because he was good enough. Sam Brownlee was bad too, ask any Hawk fan, that running game was awful. So really, your just proving my point.

Unless we have a defense like that 2004 team, we wont be 10-2

And 1992, like I said, was a nearly two decades ago.

Why are we still fighting about Jeff Woody? Noone said they guaranteed he would be a starter someday and be the best white walk-on running back ever. What point are you trying to make? Seriously? Bigguns answered your question about walkons. He wasn't trying to say that they were awesome and that Jeff Woody would be so much better than them. Get over it.

If Woody ends up being the starter at any point in his career we are probably in trouble. It means that he is either better than any of the scholarship RBs we have brought in or we are down two or three running backs to injury. He may be limited somewhat physically, but from everything we are hearing, he has a great work ethic and I hope he has the chance to do something to help the team.

Get over your hatred for white Iowa boys. There is no point.

Don't need to be a coach to say that Alexander Robinson is our starting runningback.

I just don't get it. NO ONE said ARob wouldn't be the starter THIS year. But it wouldn't surprise me if Woody was the starter NEXT year. I also wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't. You don't, nor does anyone else, have any way of knowing how good he can be. I guess you just can't grasp that concept.

That'd be a massive failure on the part of our recruiting.

Ok, why is this so hard. It's happened before. He technically could turn in to a fantastic RB, and be one of the best. I don't this this will happen but my point is i don't, and you don't, have any way of knowing that it won't happen. Unless you can see into the future, you cannot tell how good a player will be. Yes, you can see how good they will probably be, but that is it. It wouldn't be the first time an ISU player has surprised people. We didn't forget Jesse Smith already did we. A Lot of people thought he should have been playing.
