Here's a neat article on Jeff Woody. I think I'm ready to be the president of his fan club. I realize it's a little early to get real excited about his potential contributions to our football team, but I'm telling you now he's going to help us one way or another.

He's the epitome of a student-athlete. He has the one thing that's hard to teach or recruit - heart - the same thing that propelled another walk-on from Southeast Polk High School to finish his career as a first team all Big 12 linebacker. I can't wait to see Woody on the field in a Cyclone uniform, and I can't wait to see him be rewarded with a scholarship.

What an unbelievably great attitude! There's a tough road ahead this Fall but I absolutely love the mentality of this football team!!! This is going to be a great group of guys to root for!

With the talk about how he can run the ball and block as either a TE or FB I would like to see what we come up with for a power set in goal line situations.

Between the size of our line and Howard looking good in spring drills we could have a heck of a short running game if we design the right set for it.

Does his GPA count for the team if he is not on scholarship? If it does not, we need him on scholarship.

Jeff Woody should never be the starting RB for ANY D1 football team. (if your expecting to be good)

Like his attitude, may be more of a role player, but I doubt he ever starts.

The same could have been said for a freshman Jesse Smith.

Besides, does he have to be the starting RB to have a positive affect on that position?

I think that he's more of a power back, not a starter. Does the H-Back thing going in motion with the wham blocks. Also gets some carries in on the goal line and in short yardage plays. And he'll be a killa on special teams. Great addition and I fully expect him to be on scholarship as a RS Soph.

thanks for the wonderful insite. I suppose Dallas Clark should have never started at TE, since he was a walk on.

My guess is there are a ton of guys on this FB team that have the same attitude. Look at the guy who is coaching them.

If Woody is versatile I see him as an H-back who could fit in nicely - kind of like the reciever (TE I think) Herman had at Rice.

I'll take all the walk ons like this we can get. If any of them are good enough to start it's only a good thing for our team. It either means we made up for a recruiting miss or we found a diamond in the rough. A program without consistent winning like ours has to have guys like this and the bonus is he's a local player.

Again, name a walk on RB from Iowa thats starting and having any amount of success in college football.

Jeff Woody was recruited by a lot of D2 schools as a walk on, and many D3 schools.

Like I said, love his attitude, but you have to be realistic, he's not a starting RB for any team thats worth a darn.

Would it be better if he was a black walk-on?
I may have missed it, but has anyone campaigned for him to be a starter? Players can have an impact on the game while not being the feature back.

Did you go to a rival high school? Nobody is claiming he's going to be a world beater, but he can still help this football team win games. If you don't believe that you are everything i hate.

Thanks for that gem of knowledge. The kid is trying his hardest to see some time on the field and you grace us with this epiphany. Have a great day.
