Keep Coach McDermott!

I am curious why daily this board bashes the program.
The University spoke about the program 30 days ago. End of story.
Noone has hinted at "lame duck" or 1 year.
Am I happy with the last 4 years results? Absolutely not. Should anyone be, absolutely not. Is ther scrutiny in place, certainly.
I am just curious if all the negative posters take the time to consider:
1. There is a lot of effort being made by qualified people to improve the situation
2. Assistant coaches changing jobs is not uncommon.
3. Players may believe in the leadership in place, may like ISU, may like the existing teammates, may want to play int he Big 12, may like the opportunity to get playing time early in their carrer, and desire to sign up, but then they daily read the speculative b.s. on sites like this and question themselves.
4. Everyone thought Buckley would leave already last year. Everyone had to believe that Brackins and Gilstrap were leaving, regardless.
5. The program in '10/'11 will have the returning players, returning staff plus 2 additions, 1 that seems to be an excellent fit, and the new players, two of which we know and have been high on since fall until it became popular to be negative, and unknowns that we speculate about, and we are left to embrace it or be quiet and go support someone else.

I can be alone, and that is fine. But why not support the positive, and if you cannot, go elsewhere, but let people do their jobs.

As I reread, I see alot of opportunity for my message to be dissected by the negative. Of course, the above is my opinion only, and you are not paying for it, so value it as you see fit.

We have as much right to be here as you, that's why not. Also, being an ***hole CF poster is my job. Don't like it? Well, you get what you pay for.

I agree that firing Greg this year is a terrible idea. We're 24 hours away from signing day. He's here next year and anything else is bad idea. We can't fire a guy at this point, we'll lose all the recruits and no coach will want to come in with 6 scholarship players, 4 of them being seniors and no recruiting class.

Recruits? What recruits? Assistants? What assistants? Walkon tryouts start on Friday.

It goes on in every message board, its not just Cyclone Fanatic. I saw things at least 10x worse on KU's board after UNI beat them than I have ever seen here, and they still seem to lock down talent year in and year out.

In my opinion, Greg McDermott's track record and inability to show he can coach at this level impacts ISU's ability to get better talent much greater than what goes on in this message board!

Good Points! Although, at some point we start creating a "self-fulfilling prophecy" - enough negative energy causes negative things to happen..

just a thought.. i'm not saying we have to have rose colored glasses on, but..
to wish the program ill will won't help either.

A picture is worth a thousand words:

Let's face the facts, we have a highly sought after coach in Greg McDermott. He will be our coach next year, and with success, for several years to come. To suggest we change coaches now flies in the face of logic.
-recruiting is done for the year
-after next season, a huge recruiting class will be available to recruit
-financial considerations point toward the need to keep Coach
-time to support the Coach and look forward to next year.

:biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh: I guess levity can be a good thing in times of "depression." McDermott hasn't been sought after for four years, and he's going to have trouble getting a decent job after his tenure here. You were just joking though so maybe I shouldn't point this out.

i think going 0-fer in the Big XII next year is a very real possibility
I said the same thing about 2 months ago and got ripped on this site, I think Dendy is worth 1 or 2 wins, if he leaves I see 7 wins all year next year.

Exactly! I love how people on here think just because you think/talk negatively about the basketball program, that your are a horrible fan, and Iowa State would be better without you. At least I care and am not an apathetic fan! I was a full McDermott supporter until this year. After the KU home game, that changed.

There is an ignore feature on CF, you people who feel that everything should be painted on a rose colored canvas should use it. Start ignoring me and everyone else who do nothing but shed negative light on the program.

and yet, i find you more entertaining than the koolaid chugging fans. I must be a crappy fan as well.

Because most people don't know that constructive criticism is a way of caring and wanting the person/organization being criticized to be improved. You can't always improve something by being positive about the state of that thing if it's already not good.

well, honestly, I hope McD stays for a while, but I am selfish, I don't want Bill Fennelly to quit if McD is fired. They are pretty close, and BF almost walked when Dan Mac was let go. I know, all of you will blast me for how men's bball is way more important, but not to me. Men's bball has become to selfish and corrupt.

Not going to happen. And if BF puts a personal friendship with McD ahead of his loyalty towards ISU, then so long Bill. And I love BF and really respect what he has done for ISU women's bball. Nothing short of amazing describes it.

But come on. You think McD would quit if BF retired or took a different job? Doubt it. Greg won't even quit, period, no matter how much it appears that is the best option for all parties involved.

You have a valid point, though I for one have no problem with someone who puts their family and personal relationships higher than their job.

I have no problem with that twisted. At least you're honest about it. That said if Fennelly really didn't think McDermott was fired with cause I question his ability to rationally look at things.

FTR, Larry Eustachy set us up for failure after the back to back big XII titles behind the great guard play of Jamaal Tinsley. We had a losing record after that and barely a .500 season after that. Then came the partying after games with college coeds.

Morgan had to be hired to keep the recruiting class intact. But in all honesty we were just a farm team for streetballers to do what they wanted. We had a couple decent seasons behind the great guard play of Stinson and Blalock. They left and things have been downhill ever since.

We have been very, very average in a tough Big XII. Do I want better? Most definitely. Do I feel we have underachieved? Definitely, this year. GMac is on the hot seat. No doubt. But I would let it play out and see what happens. If we really suck we can make a change then. I don't see the real downside in waiting. It would actually be worse if we pulled the plug and panicked.
100% DISAGREE with you on that front, The Morgan teams had the ability, heart and toughness needed to knock off top teams home.....and another foreign concept...winning on the road/big 12 tournament....And being a farm team for street ballers is bad thing ..how?? They made watching basketball a heck of a lot better and more exciting then this crap we've seen in the past 4 years...those teams had all of the necessities needed to be a good team...and sure they underachieved morgan's last year but that was no reason to give him the boot...This season, there should be another step up from the hot seat...GMAC should be on the stove with the burners on full blast....

I would imagine that Bill Fennelly is smart enough to realize that if Gmac was fired, it was because of the horrible results.

Fennelly is a Cyclone and as such, he should want a MBB program that isn't one of the worst in all of DI.

Comparing Dan getting fired, which was much more questionable (in line with firing Wayne, IMO) after all that McCarney had done for ISU is COMPLETELY different than firing a coach that has destroyed a program from head to toe.
