Keep Coach McDermott!

Let's face the facts, we have a highly sought after coach in Greg McDermott. He will be our coach next year, and with success, for several years to come. To suggest we change coaches now flies in the face of logic.

Surely you jest

I am curious why daily this board bashes the program.
The University spoke about the program 30 days ago. End of story.
Noone has hinted at "lame duck" or 1 year.
Am I happy with the last 4 years results? Absolutely not. Should anyone be, absolutely not. Is ther scrutiny in place, certainly.
I am just curious if all the negative posters take the time to consider:
1. There is a lot of effort being made by qualified people to improve the situation
2. Assistant coaches changing jobs is not uncommon.
3. Players may believe in the leadership in place, may like ISU, may like the existing teammates, may want to play int he Big 12, may like the opportunity to get playing time early in their carrer, and desire to sign up, but then they daily read the speculative b.s. on sites like this and question themselves.
4. Everyone thought Buckley would leave already last year. Everyone had to believe that Brackins and Gilstrap were leaving, regardless.
5. The program in '10/'11 will have the returning players, returning staff plus 2 additions, 1 that seems to be an excellent fit, and the new players, two of which we know and have been high on since fall until it became popular to be negative, and unknowns that we speculate about, and we are left to embrace it or be quiet and go support someone else.

I can be alone, and that is fine. But why not support the positive, and if you cannot, go elsewhere, but let people do their jobs.

As I reread, I see alot of opportunity for my message to be dissected by the negative. Of course, the above is my opinion only, and you are not paying for it, so value it as you see fit.

A few questions for you regarding the highlighted above:

1) Please enlighten me on "the positive" things happening in the MBB program.

2) Why should I go elsewhere? I am an alum of ISU and am both vested and invested in this program...it is my program.

3) GM has been "doing his job" at ISU for four years now. Frankly, I don't like the results he has shown us. You, however, appear to be satisfied and ready to stay the course...correct?

I plan on bashing this program until a change is made...

Haha!

Deace was calling out the OP this morning for this thread....demanding that friends of Ketel interviene and submit him to a urinalysis.

I believe a change is necessary, but i think bashing your program on a message board isn't the right approach. I think sharing all of this negativity on a message DOES impact our ability to get better talent (and keep talent) on the team (which IS part of the answer)... I'd suggest emailing JP in a polite, honest manner, voicing your concerns.

Just my opinion... I know others don't believe public negativity on a free board couldn't impact. but - i disagree.

It goes on in every message board, its not just Cyclone Fanatic. I saw things at least 10x worse on KU's board after UNI beat them than I have ever seen here, and they still seem to lock down talent year in and year out.

In my opinion, Greg McDermott's track record and inability to show he can coach at this level impacts ISU's ability to get better talent much greater than what goes on in this message board!

im a coach mac supporter, kind of on the edge though, mainly because i dont care who the coach is, i will support the team. the one thing i am afraid of is that everyone is just so negative about next year that nobody will show up to support the team and the hilton atmosphere will be gone.

Hey you better watch that kind of talk. If you talk about actually supporting the school you root for no matter what, you will be mocked here. Haven't you learned you're supposed to quit on the team if they're losing???

-recruiting is done for the year
-after next season, a huge recruiting class will be available to recruit
-financial considerations point toward the need to keep Coach
-time to support the Coach and look forward to next year.

I'm not going to read through this whole thread before commenting, but I hope your wife/gf/roomate/whoever has the looney bin on speed dial cause you done lost your mind.

the insiders to the program have totally abandoned the board.

I assume things must be pretty bad/going to get much worse.

how many 'other' shoes do we have to drop?

No clear thinking person can possibly be optimistic about our BBall program and the future that it holds. Gmac has proven to be one of the worst coaches that we've had in recent history and makes Wayne look like Coach K.

I guess if anything he did teach us that you had better not make a change, UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO.

I would say that there is no further that we can fall now, so whether we make a change this year or next doesn't really matter anymore. At this point, whoever the next coach is will have to resurrect a program from the grave.

I can no longer see any hope for this program in it's current state. I can no longer excuse a coach who has starters transferring at the end of the season for 4 years in a row.

And I'm not counting gilstrap/brackins because those were expected.

I'm talking about colvin, ham and lucca. (colvin would be starter next yr)

Dont you guys get it lol Ketelmeister is Greg M. He joined CF to try and save his job, pathetic if you ask me but if thats what he wants to do fine. Reminds me of Al Gore on southpark lol

(I love when I get to post this outside the cave...)

I admire your gumption and courage for setting yourself up for bashing but your entire message could very well be based on the ultimate false premise. The sentence that uses the words "qualified people".
