I really don't understand the get rid of Pollard crowd. Let's look at some facts

Our football team just won a bowl game
Our womens basketball team went to the elite 8 last year and is ranked 13th now.
Our wrestling team is ranked second to one of the best wrestling teams in history.
Our womens volleyball team is actually drawing crowds because of how good they are. How many would ever think the Volleyball team would draw more than 50 fans. 25 of whom were probably family members.

We have one bad sport at Iowa State. ONE. Jamie hired a basketball coach with a great resume and great Iowa ties. He was the perfect fit. It has not worked out so well. I can't fault the hire. He went to 4 straight NCAA tourny's with UNI. I was not huge on the hire at first but understood it.

So what in the hell are you all thinking that we should fire the athletic director who has brought millions of new dollars to ISU. Made drastic improvements to all the facility's with tons more on the way. The football stadium has never looked better and it will get bowled in when the recesion is over.

Yet you people want to fire him??? Are you freakin serious. Don't you remember BVDV?

I'm going to momentarial step into the shoes of MontyBurns here:

Everything you've listed there are things we had done under every previous AD (aside from Volleyball) all while maintaining a well-coached and talented basketball team. Giving Pollard credit for things that are innate to our program doesn't do him much good.

All athletic directors make bad hiring decisions. No one is perfect in this respect. Some of these decisions look good at first but just don't work out. What Jamie Pollard is going through is nothing different than what other athletic directors go through. However, Jamie as a whole is doing a great job.

agreed - JP is not the problem. he has been a solution to many of our other problems, and I believe he will make the prudent call on the MBB situation as well. Whatever he decides, I will get behind.

If Mac is able to convince JP that he is worth more time, then so be it. I will never stop being a fan - it is in my blood. I will get on here and ***** and complain like everyone else, but in the end I will continue to support the program.

I like Pollard but I honestly don't trust him to make hirinig decisions. That and the money thing is one of the big reasons I'm against making a move.

Except for improve the facilites and drastically increase football season ticket sales.

Fear of the next guy possibly not doing any better is not a reason to sit idly and accept this current poor product - and pay for it.

If we had done that for football, we would not have Paul Rhoads.

I was unaware that BVDV hire Coach Paul for football. I was unaware he hired Coach Jackson for wrestling.
He also has made vast improvements to the football stadium and actually got a basketball practice facility built.

Giving Pollard credit for women's basketball is pretty dubious, the coaching regime(aka what the AD has the most power over) has stayed pretty steady from previous administrations. Also, people will only give him half credit for football bad hire was somewhat rectified by a good hire later.

Didn't he use a hiring/search firm to find coach Rhoads? I think he used some firm in Alabama. Maybe when the time comes for basketball he will do the same.

I can see that, I just didn't understand the OP claiming a victory for Pollard based on our wrestling team, women's basketball team and going to a bowl game. Those aren't unprecidented occurences here. I am behind Pollard, don't get me wrong, I was just playing devil's advocate (aka trying to duplicate a MontyBurns) argument just for the sake of making an argument.

Is this a joke? Its a pretty well known story on how JP decided CPR would be the next coach.

Just for the sake of discussion, I still have a high discomfort level as the decision Jamie made to fire Wayne. As a fan for 35-years, I've seen a lot of coaches get canned for justifiable cause, but I've never seen Iowa State fire somebody like this situation. As Cyclones, we don't do that here.

Jamie is accountable for compounding a bad situation (LE firing) by pulling the trigger way too early on Morgan. In my opinion this was more motivated for a personal ambition to "build his empire". If there were any perceived deficiencies, any normal, decent process would have allowed the individual the chance to correct. You just don't can a coach, his assistants and their families just because you want to.

One final thing: Jamie is no Gene Smith.

That is very common when hiring million dollar employees, regardless of the line of work.

Agree.

Also how many ADs get the chance to make two hires iin their career for the top three, premier legacy sports ?? We sure gave him on the job training to correct his mistakes; too bad he didn't extend the same patience to Wayne Morgan

I guess we ISU should give back that basketball practice facility. It didn't help much anyway.

You kidding? He has that team in there constatly practicing 3 point shooting and late game situations...could you not tell?
