What happens to Iowa State?

I know there is a lot of speculation out there right now as to what is going to happen with possible Big 10 and Pac 10 expansion. Some people think that nothing big will happen, such as the Big 10 expanding to 14 or even 16 teams, or that the Pac 10 will add a significant amount. But sometimes where there is smoke there is fire. My theory is that the conferences now are in a race to survive, and in reality become king. The Big Ten network has proven genius, and raised the bar for the revenue a conference can bring in.

That being said, is the Big 12 really in trouble? With talk that Texas, Missouri, and Colorado may all be gone, is the Big 12 really all that much better than a Mid-Major conference? Yes there is still Oklahoma and Nebraska (sort of) in football, and of course Kansas in basketball. But really losing those schools really drops the appeal of the Big 12. Adding schools like TCU, Utah, and Arkansas would not come close to filling the void. I would think that if those schools left, other Big 12 schools would soon follow suit.

I know the subject has been talked about a lot lately, but what really does happen to ISU. To me, we would become even more of an afterthought to the conference if those schools left, as almost certainly all the schools that were added would be either from Texas, out west, or at the very least south. I don't see anyone "close" to us like Missouri that would be added. It would make recruiting tougher, and would make it even harder for the fanbase to travel.

Not trying to be a downer, but I really would be concerned about where we would end up, or how we would do in a revamped Big 12. Where would we fit in? I would hate joining the MAC, and I just don't think we would be invited into the Big 10 (11, 14, 16 or whatever)

Texas isn't going anywhere. As long as they remain in the Big 12, all will be fine. You can always add someone like TCU if Missouri or Colorado bounced.

Never say never.

Bottom line the B12 is a forced situation, no matter how much loyalty ISU fans have to the conference, it may or may not survve.

easy answer. we go to the missouri valley. our bball team would be in the upper echelon in that conference.

Unless the Texas to the Big Ten thing happens, I think I'd be more worried about being a low-level Big East team than being Iowa State.

If CU, Mizzou, and Texas left. You still have A&M, Tech, OSU, OU, KU, KSU, Nebby, ISU, and Baylor. Not exactly mid-major schools.

I disagree if you compare to other BCS conferences.

The Big Ten, with Texas, would be held in much higher regard.

Pac 10 with Colorado would be 12 school conference, and in my mind would be seen as sort of along the lines of the what the big 12 is not. They would still have a better setup for football, and are still a threat with UCLA and Arizona (though sliding) in basketball. So I say they would be significantly better there.

The SEC is the SEC. Awesome at football, and Kentucky looks to be back as a basketball powerhouse.

Those three conferences would be the new Power Conferences in a league by themselves. It will be interesting to see what would happen to the Big East and ACC. Both of these conferences are very basketball heavy, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were fed on too. Such as some ACC teams going SEC, some Big East joining Big 10, and the rest merging or falling somewhere.

I realize this is all speculation, thats what message boards are for right? But with all the talk, I bet something will happen, and this time I wouldn't be surprised if it was big and had a huge domino effect. Thats all I'm trying to discuss here. Its just all in fun.

I'm waiting for two major conferences to merge and make 4 divisions. I dculd envision the BigXII merged with the either the SEC or the PAC 10/12. The 4 Division Champs could play in a Super Conf. Tourney, which could be the fore-runner of a playoff system. Sounds crazy now, but I still have some Big 6 memorabilia..... It is all about the $

Conferences more and more suck. I almost wish it would be a regoinal thing and play out like a wrestling meet. You win you go one direction, lose and you go the other.

If the Big12 does get poached, I think the most likely scenario would be CU to the Pac10 and MU to the Big10. If this happens I think the Big12 would go after TCU and Arkansas. I would move OU and OSU to the North division and put TCU and Ark in the South. That way the divisions would be pretty even football wise and the biggest rivalry of the Big8 would be restored (OU/Neb). The conference as a whole would probably be stronger than it is currently.

North
Neb
ISU
KU
KSU
OU
OSU

South
Tex
A&M
Baylor
Tech
Ark
TCU

I agree IF Texas doesn't get poached, this is actually appealing, and I say more even divisions and stronger conference. However that hinges on the Big 12 ability to get Arkansas and TCU.

TCU would come in a second, but we wouldn't want them. They bring nothing to the table.

Arkansas would be a good get, but not sure they'd want to leave the SEC.

BYU or Utah would be a better choice than TCU.
