Official Missouri Post Game Thread

You know... I watch a lot of Illinois basketball... and as I watch another team, I always end up comparing Illinois and whatever big 11 team they're playing against to ISU.... and I just don't see the ability on our team those teams have. I mean, the guys on our team are just not as good.... they're not coached as well, they're not as athletic, they make worse decisions.... it's frustrating to see the complete imbalance in talent between ISU and other teams around the midwest...

I'm not sure what you guys expect. They had 6 guys basically. (SC has mono, shouldn't even be out there and Gilstrap is sick apparently) Lots of good looks down the stretch and people kept throwing up bricks. Almost zero chance to win a game with 6 guys against Missouri.

Well, they need to take the ball inside at the end. Colvin tried to but people kept shooting the easy threes which missed.

After watching four years of short benches, why do we only have one walk-on to play. McD should know by now that **** happens to our team.

What does everyone think next year will be like? Lets say we get some recruits in which don't even look the greatest. So we will have a deeper bench and no Gilstrap or CB and then what 2 wins in the Big 12 again?

I put a lot of the blame on the refs. I thought there were a lot of "no-calls" and that one they called off of just hamilton was complete GARBAGE! that ref had to be blind to not see it went off MIZZOU (white jersey NOT RED)

I really hate to say it, but part of me hopes that if coach is back that we suck it up big time and loose every game - just so we can get rid of him..... yeah it sucks but much of this fan base is to that point. We are so irrelevant right now it's amazing.

Because we are only allowed to have 13 players on scholarship. We should apply for a special exemption to have 20.

So, just to make sure I understand, you'd rather suck and fire the coach, than win and make the tournament?

On the bright side...Alex Dorr!!! I always come away impressed by this kid. He's got no minutes this year yet when he steps in the game he has a sense that he know's whats going on and I always get the feeling he can score the basketball. Wished we'd have seen a little more of him tonight.

Lets be real here. Would you rather win 1-2 more games? or get a new coach?

That answer is pretty easy. I would sign for the latter if I had to.

Oh I would love to win and find a way to the tournament - I'm just to the point were I really don't see it being a possibility with this coach......

I'd be more than happy if I'm proven wrong, but I just don't see ANYTHING yet to lead me to believe this coach can even get us to back-to-back NITs in the future let alone make some noise in the big dance.

Once again, if I'm proven wrong - GREAT!!! I would love for ISU basketball to mean something again.

reread the original post, he was talking about next year.

and I consider anyone who cheers for ISU to lose to be not an ISU fan, pure and simple.

He said walk-ons. I agree that Mac screwed up again by only having one walk-on this year (Dorr). As I said in an earlier post, we could really have used Cameron Lee this season. It's too bad Bubu isn't ready to go yet.

Some of Eustachy's best teams were down to only 6 or 7 scholarship players but he had some key walkons who helped pick up the slack. Remember Clint Varley. John Neal also got a lot of minutes as a walk on.

ISU is just an ice cold shooting team. Full stop end of story. If you take the team with a little confidence from the beginning of the season we win a lot of these close losses. What killed me was watching seconds tick away with 1:30 left while everyone watched the ball bounce after an easy MU basket... It was like: we lost, let's go home.

I get the gist of what I will read tonight (ie Mac sucks, he has to go, no effort etc), but at some point don't guys NEED to make layups/dunks on their own - or is that Mac's fault as well.

I know this season is in the crapper, but we played tonight with 7 players, 2 of which are post players, a guy with mono and a guy who wasn't even in our top 11 to start the year and almost won at Mizzou (how many home games have they lost in 3 years?).

I know MU played like crap, but no reason that couldn't have been a little bit about us?? As I have already read - well ya, but Baylor plays with 7 and so and so plays with 8. BUT THEY HAVE MORE OPTIONS. We have NO other scholarship players. We played tonight without 4 of our top 10 players when the season started (and 3 of the top 7). Baylor is playing with all 7 of their top players - big difference.

The other thing I keep reading is who else would do this with two NBA guys. We have a 20-30 first rounder in CB and a possible 2nd rounder in MG. Not like we have 2 lottery picks. I'm sure Carolina has 8 potential NBA players but they are struggling as well.

I know it is easy to throw Mac under the bus, but save a game or two this team keeps playing and keeps games close, they just can't get over the hump which is frustrating to all of us. I just wish people would at least think a little before all blame for everything goes on Mac's head.

No, you're right. The players need to do a better job finishing around the hoop. Where McDermott has failed as a coach is the mental part of the game. Have you ever seen a team make so many junior high plays in one season?

Here is a list of things to work on:

Going to the basket out of control (mainly Gilstrap but not limited to rest of team) Each player holding the ball for an average of 6.8 seconds before passing.
Not finding the 3 point shooter, every time down the court.
Dribbling and picking the ball up in a corner.
Giving up rebounding position while the ball is in the air.
Knowing where you are at all time on the court (how many times have we stepped on the line?)

Our guys just don't have the mental toughness and basketball IQ that it takes to win a game. Especially a close game. And I would say 90% of that falls on McDermott.

All I know, CB better start scoring more. He needs to audition for next year at this point.

We lose because we have only 7 players? Last year we used scholarships for Eikmeier, Mann and Pomlee - none who are here anymore. If McD had used those scholarships for 3 B12 caliber players we would then have 10 players available.

I guess we should blame our losses on the Evil Transfer Ghost.
