Herman

If the offense doesn't get any better next year, he might have no choice but to leave IMO.

I'll give him 2 years to prove his system works, but we better see drastic improvement next season IMO. We ranked horribly in offense this year.

Herman, although this thread is founded on BS

Thanks for the clarification.... I'm guessing he won't go anywhere. Our offense was terrible this year. And it's understandable with this being only his first year. I have a feeling that he won't get more looks until he proves he can get things rolling here.

Seriously can we bring back negative rep or something?

Maybe we can ban someone here?

Seriously, do not throw randow speculation around unless you have heard anything.

There are a hundred spread OCs out there that could be possibilities.

Remember all of McFarland's delay of game penalties? The only one I can remember Herman having was in the bowl game, and I believe they were having trouble with the playclock. The Nebraska game wasn't exactly play calling wizardry, but we did manage to outscore the competition and have ZERO turnovers with a 2nd string backfield. Also- rather than trying to "fit a square peg into a round hole," Herman's playcalling adjusted to our strengths; which was basically A-Rob. The offense will be better. You'll see.

Are we talking about Rhoads here???? Sorry to be slow.... But what are we talking about???

I don't think we have to worry about him. Assistants yes.. More so... Rhoads no..

He grew up in Ankeny, coached at ISU before, family lives in Ankeny, always wanted to come back as a head coach. I have a feeling this might be a destination job for him.

Mike Stoops will be the next coach at Iowa State... you can take that to the bank.

Are you kidding me?!!! It was his first year, players that were recruited by two different head coaches with different systems, we have 5 wins in the prior 2 seasons and we go to a bowl game, which we win. I would say that is a HUGE IMPROVEMENT! We now have a first year recruiting process about completed with players that fit his system. Last year's class essentially was Chizek's, as Rhoads pretty much had no time to find his players.

Not in the Iowa game he didn't. Just sayin

I think for a chunk of the game he did. He just wasn't the one to keep throwing the ball to Sash and Greenwood.

Also that was the second game of the year. Based on what we have seen and heard, Austen is a far better player in practice than the game this past year. I am sure Herman thought Austen would have a better game against Iowa than he did.

Yah I know, and I'm actually in agreeance with the post and think next year's offense will be much better. I just thought with the running game working so well against Iowa it seemed we called/forced too many passing plays.

Actually Mizouse87 it was, one of strengths consider our success at it this year was throwing interceptions.....:jimlad:

I truly hope this is AA's year.....the Rice qb really made a huge leap in his second year of the offense, but, AA's been through so much, i would love to see his hard work be rewarded.....

not to mention it would make a lot of us a lot happier on game day not having to talk about interceptions or really bad throws.....

Well, he got rid of the dirt balls over the season, hopefully the INTs drop next year as well. In the bowl game, he was throwing great balls when they weren't going to the other team. I really hope he plays next year more like he did in his sophomore year, because I love his running ability, and if he eliminates the INTs, he'll be difficult to stop. This is, of course, if our receivers start getting open.

We beat Nebraska and Nebraska beat Arizona 33-0. The Pac 10 sucks in football and ISU > Arizona.

Wow. how many genralizations can one make.
  1. The delay of game penalties didn't exist after the Iowa game the 2nd game of the season
  2. Square peg and round hole defines the defense under chizdick but doesn't go anywhere close to defining the offense. McFarland played to the players strenghts quite well. One could argue he played to Arnaud's strengths much better.
  3. ARob was hurt more/worse last year than this year. he was not as strong and didn't break as many tackles. He went down at first contact. He is a year stronger and a year smarter
  4. The offensive game plan at Nebraska was his best called game. he showed great patience against a defense that would not allow points.
McFarland did just fine last year with a first year starter at QB, that shared snaps, was hurt, and didn't have a back up. Remember after Bates quit we got conservative with Arnaud.

Herman had some bone headed play calls (4th down in the bowl game) and made mistakes but he did all right in his first year. I think it will be better in his second because he was learning about the game at this level as much as the players were. Not only that but everyone has had a year under the system.
I expect better next year.
