Official Duke Postgame Thread

Craig Brackins would be one of them.... he just threw shots up all night when he was guarded... no leadership on this team at all...

No, Gmac said that Brackins was a great leader in the halftime locker room, and he also worked hard to get open, but his teammates didn't get him the ball.

Sounds accurate. The refs did allow the Duke player to lean all over him throughout the game, which kind of set the tone there. It was noted several times in the game (by Bilas) that Duke's ball pressure prevented the pass when Brackins did manage to break free.

Sorry for that. I have this horrible combination of positivity and sarcasm that cannot be contained.

Did you listen to Jay Bilas at all tonight? He was very complimentary about the direction of ISU basketball under Coach McDermott.

No worries.

Jay Bilas was being complimentary to ISU partly because it's true, we are better than the previous 3 years, but mostly to be cordial. What bothered me is that we're four years into the DMac era and the only real complimentary thing he could say about our coach is that he had some good seasons at UNI. I don't want to effing hear about how awesome he was at UNI anymore.

Well.... I guess Colvin can take it like a man and improve... or he will probably be GMac's next transfer.

I'm scared to even think what choice he might make?

they said he only had 4 shots at halftime.... (meant to quote the guy that said brackins was tossin up shots all night long)

What are these off-court antics that McDermott mentioned? Was it something that happened tongiht, or is this some kind of on-going thing with Colvin?

If I were Colvin, I wouldn't be too impressed with my coach calling me out on the post game radio show. Those things should be kept in house.

I'm just not ready to give up on this team until the final bell sounds on the final game. It's obvious that they need to improve. But I see this as the first really complete team (meaning experienced and talented) that McDermott has had at ISU, and still, they have some things to learn. I fully believe that they will pull things together as they go through the Big 12, and that they'll be at least a bubble team.

Depends how long the problems have been going on, and whether there has been no response to "in-house" methods for resolution. Over-protection is not always productive either.

What possible reason is there to "go public" with a problem with a player other than a self-serving one?

The good thing about this game is I think we are going to learn alot about what it means to be a good team and how to win. Identity is definitely a piece of the puzzle that is missing. Gilstrap, Garrett and Brackins are the only consistent players on our team on both ends of the floor and need to be on the floor all 40 minutes. I don't believe in players getting tired. These guys live on the court and there cardio should be pretty sick. Plus you get timeouts every four minutes and every dead ball. Looking at Duke and our team i don't see the big difference in talent. We need to be better at defense, making the smart play and cutting down turnovers, and obviously mental toughness. I am just having a hard time supporting a team that acts like it doesn't care about wanting to dominate there opponent and showing that deteremination during the game. Thank you Diante Garrett for yelling at Dendy, its not right that you got benched for the rest of the game. Atleast you showed some fire and emotion to be a better team and demand more out of each other. Much more then any other player or coached has ever shown.

I guess that whole Fizer vs Brackins thread can now be put to rest.
