Deace haters...

I agree with alot of people on Deace. I don't hate the guy at all. I don't like his show on WHO. That being said, I cannot believe some of the people on this board. So what if he is a bandwagon Cyclone fan that wanted to run a website based on ISU. I don't see many other fans traditional or bandwagon wanting to provide information for the masses. He provided a service that kept us updated and informed about ISU long before anyone else stepped up to the plate. And I don't care if he is biggest fake since BVD, at least he reports to us whats going on with ISU and doesn't sugar coat it like JOHN MILLER does for the Squawkeye fans.

I don't believe with his moral or religious views, but trying to attack the guy for not being a Cyclone fan is stupid. He did more to spread the name of ISU athletics then about 99% of the people on this board.

He debates John Miller for an hour each week and there is nothing phony about his wanting to defeat Miller and his Big 10 alliance. Steve gives ISU a media profile equal to or better than all the advantages that that pious school to the east gets.

It's probably not all that surprising that Deace became an ISU fan after being an Michigan alum. From experience, Michigan and Ohio St. fans detest Iowa and their incessant arrogance and claims that their sports (sans wrestling) are elite in the Big 10. Deace was probably already biased against Iowa (Big 10 school loyalty aside) and made it that much easier to become a Cyclone fan.

Why are their people who think that if you didn't go to the school, you can't possibly be a fan?

Don't we want all of the Iowa State fans we can get??

So what if Deace also is a Michigan fan? He's done more for ISU athletics than almost anyone currently on the radio. Who has done more?

He has said several times that he started CN purely for financial reasons. As the years progressed, he enjoyed dealing with ISU officials and fans and now genuinely roots for them. Why is that a bad thing?

I understand that his "in your face" version of promoting his Christian viewpoints might tick some people off. I think that a lot of you who dislike him and call him a "bigot" are basing this on one particulary segment they heard (like the Jew story brought up above). Like businesscyman pointed out, that was him being sarcastic. It's weird how when you like someone's opinions on things you can tell when they're just joking, but when you are blind with hate for their view on things, you take every single word literally.

I don't mind Deace but sometimes he gets on his high horse and comes off with a "holier than thou" attitude. I think his new format on WHO is a much better place for him to talk about his view than KXNO was because there were times at KXNO he's go off on a rant that had nothing at all to do with sports.

I don't listen to him on WHO so can't comment much on how he is now. As much as Marty and Miller suck at times I still would rather hear sports talk on the way home than hear a guy rant on religion like a broken record at times.

I guess I get sick of listening to radio about possible ISU/Iowa recruits or an interview with Drake's women's basketball coach. When it's a slow time in the Iowa sports world I don't mind someone bringing up legitimate social issues on the radio, even if the station is a "sports" station. I would feel the same way if the host started bashing Christianity...at least it would promote discussion and callers. I also like it how he usually didn't hang up on callers that disagreed with him like most radio hosts. Maybe he's changed since he was on 1460 but back then he would argue with callers without resorting to hanging up on them.

As a Christian...his thoughts on Christ were dead on and I am proud that he is willing to take a stand publically for that. That can't be easy in this world of moral relativism Steve is standing on what he views is truth. Many have not and will not accept that, but then again that doesn't disprove that what he claims isn't true. (topic for another day)

Deace is funny, quick wit and very smart. Dude know his stuff and is very talented on the radio, gotta give 'em that.

Plus he is a powerful voice for the Clones, which we need...badly. 20+ years of the hawkeye propoganda machine (WHO) is long enough.

I have to appreciate Deace for taking a stand, too many times in society we allow people to get away with things because of apathy. Kids are becoming more and more disrespectful, because of apathy. There are things that are black and white. I need to be a better friend to many and stand up for what I know is right and wrong. I need to do a much better job of that, and so Deace might not be popular with all of his ideas, but he stands up for what he knows is right and I commend him for that!

I'm not remotely basing it solely on the Jewish ballplayer thing. And if he was being sarcastic - that was the longest sarcastic rant I can recall. His attitudes towards gays is repulsive. Like I said, his moral compass points directly back at him - as in "it's the way I see it, no options." Call it "in your face" if you like. But it's the type of attitude he displays that really turns me off about religion. Those who so often and so proudly proclaim how great they are in regards to their religous fervor, often come off as lacking in behavior what they preach.

Now from a sports standpoint - he was far and away the best DSM has ever offered, IMO.

Regardless - I'm far from a "Deace-hater". If I'm sick of the M&M show (about 3 times per my 10 minute commute home :wink0st then Deace is my first stop. But I have to admit, it's a love/hate relationship. And it's always topic based.

Uh, I would say his moral compass points squarely at the Bible so if sticking up for your religious views based on the foundation of your faith is wrong and makes you mad, count me in too. I'm sorry you are so turned off by religion but I can see why...religions are not for wishy-washy people who want to be able to make up their own rules about everything. I hope you will find somone in the future who can talk with you about Christianity without being as smug as some of our more vocal leaders can be.

He points squarely at the Bible and interprets things his way. I'm sorry but much of the Bible can be interpreted different ways to fit your own ideals. I disagree with some of his. That being said, what I disagree with most is his holier than thou attitude and smugness. Tell me what you belive all you want, that's cool with me. I listen to deace infrequently on WHO. It's entertainment. If his radio personality is his real personality he is indeed an idiot. However, I'm mostly bothered with his testicular festish. He is obsessed with the size of any male's testicles. Yes, he equates big balls to lots of courage. But geez, four or five times a show? "He doesn't have a set." "There is no testicular fortitude in that man." He does it so frequently I'm convinced that he is closeting himself from something else. I wonder how he explains the "big balls is braver" analogy to his daughters.

I would hardly call myself wishy washy. I know what things I believe in and I don't feel the need to go out and tell others they are wrong because they don't believe what I do. I also was able to make decisions on what I believe myself, I didn't need to go to church every week and have someone tell me what I should believe.

The problem with religion is that they are governed by man. And therefore - are just as corruptable as anything else.

So in that capacity, it's hardly "wishy washy". I'll go one step further. I'm no less wishy washy than the priests who've abused friends. The never ending lists of religous leaders who espouse hatred, condemn others, are caught with prostitutes (same sex or not), wage wars throughout history "in God's name", assist for political means criminal regimes such as the Nazis post WWII.

The list of why I have issues and am "wishy washy" about religion are long. And not one bit of that makes me any less faithful than you.

BTW, thanks for proving the point. Most who are so BIG on religion - need to keep their own houses in order before telling others how to keep theirs.

Here's one I've found fun in the past - why can Christians eat pork? It clearly states in the Old Testament that it's "unclean", on at least 4 separate passages. But that kinda went by the wayside, didn't it?

"Keep holy the sabbath" - no work, just a day of commitment to God? Oh, that gets in the way of too much.

Give me a break - organized religion throughout history has proven to be the very MODEL of wishy-washy. And that's completely separate from faith.

I love how when a person takes the bible and word of God literally they are intollerant and deserve hatred. It amazes me how "far" society has come in their views. I imagine the folks in Sodom thought they were pretty progressive as well.

Listening to Deace yesterday on Miller’s show reminded me why I stopped listening to him when he moved to WHO. His arguments are nothing but half truths and emotional manipulation; the very thing he claims to abhor.

He takes Christian ideas, attaches his own bigotry and wraps them together in a nice little package that seems strait out of the Bible. He’s very good at it, but if you listen closely and analyze his arguments you realize they are nothing but half truths and falsehood.

He is also great at making himself the victim, yet another thing he claims to hate. He does nothing but whine and complain about secular society and pretend that he is the one being discriminated against because Wal-Mart doesn’t wish him a Merry Christmas. Please.

He claims to stand up for truth. But does ******** really equal standing up for something?

These are some very good observations. One of my favorite Deace ploys was complaining constantly about cultural decline, while spending his free time at the movies, watching the boob tube, etc.
