UNC it is.

HB said he wants a shot at a championship. This is why HB did not sign with ISU:

15-16 (6-10)
14-18 (4-12)
15-17 (4-12)

Those years killed our chances.

Agreed. My only issue is the way he went about it. This whole "bring you the prom as my date, let you pay for my meal, then leave the prom with the starting qb...but can we still be friends" crap has got to go. I get the feeling we were not an option for him quiet some time now. What could he have seen or not seen from Iowa State in the past few weeks that would make him not commit here. He knew we weren't a player...and kept us along for the ride, only to beg that we still be fans of his. Nah, good luck at UNC, good with with NBA obscurity.

Aside from him hanging with the team, coaches, practicing with our players, at our facilities, etc, etc......

yeah.....

Harrison Barnes = Gene Chizik
So you would rather Coach McDermott not recruit him? I'd like to see the backlash if our coach doesn't recruit the #1 prospect that lives in the same city.

Just got back and settled from AHS. Disappointed, but have to move on. The only humor I could find in the situation is that about 1/4 the crowd didn't know where he was going after they showed RW. Guess he never said Carolina so most people didn't get it.

That is so true! The people around me wouldn't have known Roy Williams from Roy Rogers - they were just ISU fans. It was so confusing, and came off terribly.
I think HB was more concerned about a national show and his own emerging "brand" than he was about the feelings of Cyclone fans. Kinda sad, really...

I would like to add another vote for the banhammer. This guy has been a troll since day one (not just today)

What he said...... I just read this whole thread and the only person I thought, besides Cycofan, that was a complete jerk and classless... Was 3TrueFans.

Way to go buddy... You are a troll...:notworthy:

In the past when such situations arose, somebody would usually post a picture of this girl in a bikini doing a handstand...

I certainly would not be as upset with his decision today if it didn't seem so apparent that HB jerked the ISU basketball program and fans around for the better part of 2 1/2 years. It would be fine had he said 6 months ago that ISU was out of the question, I think we all could have accepted his decision and moved on. But I think for as intelligent of a kid as he is, and how every move he made throughout this process seemed so calculated, he had to know what he was doing. He had to know that he was going to end up hurting alot the people that supported him and who he claims he "will always be a fan of". It just seems kinda juvenile the way he did it?? maybe its just me being bitter and wishing he had chose ISU, but he could have saved a lot of people a lot of time had he stated the inevitable months ago and not went along with the whole dog and ponie show.

like I stated earlier, I will not root for UNC nor will I root for HB. Just because he is an "Iowan" and happens to live in the town where I went to college, doesn't mean that I owe him anything. all of you that are berating people for being ****** are ridiculous. Who are you to sit there on your high horse and judge others for being so compashionate about their athletic programs that they cannot help to take somehting like this personally? yes people might be saying things that aren't exactly tactful, but so be it, I'm sure they will regret it later and are only acting on emotion.

Yup, you quote in there "bring you the prom as my date, let you pay for my meal, then leave the prom with the starting qb...but can we still be friends" pretty much covers it for me.

I heard McD pulled the schollie. He said that he really didn't want that type of player on the beloved Hilton floor.:jimlad:

I will agree with some people that he used us, but which of you, given the opportunity, wouldn't go and play/practice with a division 1 team? I think from day 1 he had one goal and that was to become a better player. From the beginning he was very honest about this, along with the criteria he was looking for in a school. Greg, the coaches, and the players always knew that there was a risk he wouldn't wind up in Ames. They obviously seemed to think the risk worth it because they allowed it to happened. And, as with all risks, sometimes you lose, but you move on.

As for the people harping on him for making a circus out of it all, this is the one time, in his highly publicized recruitment, that he made even a little spectacle. He's 18 for crying out loud and wants to enjoy this moment in his life. Is it so unreasonable that he wanted to have it in his hometown, in his gym, in front of his family and friends? I think not.

Additionally, as has been said, this is not the end of Iowa State. Its up to us fans to support our team and cheer them on to the great season they're bound to have. If we, the fans, the university, and the team work to improve our situation, then maybe we bring more to the table next time were chasing the big fish and perhaps come out on top.

When its all said and done, however, it is all just a game.

Who says we were out of the question 6 months ago? Do you have some kind of insider information the rest of us lack?

I am thinking about putting together a band of "Freedom Fighters" to stake out in front of the practice facility to ensure he never goes in there. Who is with me?

Skyping is gay, I hope we get to face him sometime down the road in March like '05

You do remember the outcome of that game, right? They killed us and won a National Championship?

Seriously people, it's one recruit. He didn't come to ISU, and that sucks. It's not the end of the universe. I wish him the best, he made the decision that, in the end, was right. Do I have to like it? No. I don't. Was it the right decision for him? Yeah, probably.

I drink from the Cyclone Kool-Aid pretty often, but some of the stuff going down on this board right now is certifiably insane. I'm sure Harrison didn't have an AGENDA to make ISU fans feel bad. I have a hard time believing Iowa State wasn't given a legit shot. One big thing to keep in mind: Jean Prioleau was the guy that started his recruiting. I know our chances took a big blow when he left.

To those who think he should have done without the big hoopla: this kid had a chance to do something none of us will ever get a chance to do. This was one of the biggest days of his life. Take a small step back and try to look at this through an unbiased perspective. Was it really any worse than EVERY other major high school recruit? This is what the recruiting game has evolved to, and every program, local or national, has to learn to take the good with the bad.

About the "used" us comments. I'd like everyone to keep in mind that for three years he practiced at State Gym, which is a PUBLIC building. Any one of us could have gone in and shot around at State Gym just like he did. Once again, HB didn't have an AGENDA. If he knew long ago he didn't want to go to ISU, he never would have strung people along like that.

I'm upset, disappointed, and bitter just like everyone else here. But in the end, this desicion wasn't about you, me, or anyone else on this board. It was about Harrison doing what's right for Harrison. If he feels his best path is at UNC, then so be it.

It isn't about us recruiting him or not. It is about the hometown kid who involves himself with ISU coaches, players, uses our facilities, and is basically neck deep involved in ISU basketball and then turns around and says **** you to them after all is said and done. What a class act.

What in the past 6 months could we have done (or not done) that we had not done before? He knew he was not coming here a while ago.

Harrison may be intelligent and present himself well, but one thing he doesn't have is class. Most would say he's not big headed. He's fairly soft spoken, but today I think he showed just how big headed he is with this production today. Skyping Roy Williams? Geez. About threw up when I saw Roy's ugly mug grinning on the screen.

Why do you suppose he was "neck deep" in ISU basketball? Could it be because he was a highly sought after recruit?
