Game day changes 2009-2010

Call me old school, but I prefer the simple "I-S-U" over the Cyclone Power cheer. Louder, more energetic, and easier for an individual or small group(s) of people to start from various points in the crowd. "I-S-U" always seems to get people (at least those who sit around me) to participate, but Cyclone Power often comes off feeling and sounding like we're all being forced to attend some tacky high school pep rally.

Also, the band coordination with the press box doesn't seem to be as much of a problem as timing the team entrance with whatever music we use. The team should enter with the climax of the music/video, not a few second after it is finished.

1.Either sit Jeff Johnson down, or decrease his field time to just 1-2 cheers.
2.Go back to the hillside walk. Find some sort of canopy that will form a "tunnel" along side the Jacobson down the hill.
3.Leave the intro music alone...just time it better.
4.Get new speakers, the current ones suck.
5.Stick with the current plan between the 3rd and 4th: Sweet Caroline if ahead, Livin on a Prayer if behind.

Not bad. I like #5.

Things I would also like to see changed....

1. More W's
2. (Appearance) Keep the Unis exactly the same....just put one gold stipe down the middle of the helmet. I am sick of all the USC look-a-like comments.....and yes, our home jerseys do look similar....but the one gold stripe knocks that crap off immediatly. Heck, maybe just 2 gold stipes to keep the continuity of the overall jersey..(the shoulders have 2 stripes....and the pants have 2 stripes...)
3. (The Band) After third down situations...or we have forced them to punt on 4th down.....quit playing that gladiatior music that 50-100 other teams in the NCAA already do......get original. I recommend....since we are the Cyclones.....play the "Wicked Witch of the West" Music....you know during the Cyclone/Tornado part of the Wizard of Oz..... I think it would be hilarius-slash-kinda cool.... (Mich. State plays the "Dudly-Do-Right" music from Rocky and Bullwinkle.....it is really cool.) So yeah, I want something original.

Tornado sirens would be sweet but I don't think it would happen. Have we done it before? I wish we could do something original that no ones ever done before.

Its unfortunate that this has become an issue. Many schools have tradition set and can't wait til gameday because they know what's coming. It's an event all to itself. (See Va Tech (entersandman) and Nebbie's tunnel walk)

We keep changing the darn thing. Hard to keep in line with the others.

I think Dan Mac had it right...when asked about the "Twilight Zone" music and if it was going to change (as many wanted). I believe he said no...it's been a tradition since he was coach. While it was older pump up music...early 90's, at least we could relate to it.

The biggest drawback, IMO, is the stadium speakers. You can't hear most of it or it fades in and out. Often the crowd doesn't know the entrance package has started until the band stops playing. By then the crowd is just plain lost.

Learn from Nebbie....it's all quiet before there package begins and thus sends them into a "organized" frenzy, which culminates when the bust through the gates onto the field.

How about "Let it Rock"...ala basketball intro. That could play...if done right.

Bleh, they started doing this halfway through the season last year, do not want.

I will continue to vie for For Whom the Bell Tolls (or maybe Hells Bells but Iowa has got AC/DC taken care of already). Something to tie into our most prominent campus icon.

Edit: I agree, two yellow pinstripes down the crown of our helmets would look sweet

UNI has used hells bells for a long time now and its great. It really has a nice slow buildup that gets the crowd going.

Why can't the team come out of the central doors of the Jacobson Building at the beginning WITHOUT any inflatables?

I also would like to see 'Sweet Caroline' moved to the end of winning games. I'm okay with 'Living on a Prayer' after the 3rd in cases where we are up 45-10 or down 45-10.

I think that last year we didn't use any inflatables (?). However we did it looked alot better than the penile-helmet.

Can't believe no ones said anything about a bus. Drive a bus down the east side and have it stop in front of the Jacobson building, put like 20 guys on it that can get off it, then have everyone else run out from the Jacobson building behind it.

Or they could all come running out of this thing!

If/when they build the South Endzone expansion, move the entrance to that side.

Are they going to move the locker rooms to under the South Endzone? If not it makes little sense.

In Jeff Johnson's place, lets have guest cheer leaders. Hello, Craig Brackins on the 50 yard line saying he is pumped to be back a la Tim Tebow for the season opener or the Iowa game. Bring Seneca back during the Seahawks bye-week.

I am getting goose bumps thinking about Craig and Diante out there talking about going to the NCAA tourney this year. Maybe if HB commits, we could run him out there. How flippin' sweet would that be!

Most small towns around here have sirens go off at noon everyday. I'm sure the Ames residents would get used to it after a couple home games...besides if you live in Ames you SHOULD be at the game anyway!

I would really like to see a video of a mic'd up CPR (and Herman and Wally)on the bigscreen. Clips of him getting hired and some quotes from his press conference ("Hit you off the bus" type stuff). Then intensify the music and have the clips be of spring/fall practices where he is getting loud and intense with the players. Clips like...
"We will be here all day until we get it right. Line 'em up!" followed by
"There ya go!! That's how you tackle!" or
"Stay with your block, Sedrick. NICE! Again, again, again."
Basically a montage of clips to get the fans pumped about the new season and new coaching staff. Then bring on the team.
I, for one, would be ready to throw on the pads and hit someone in their mouth after seeing that. CPR seems to be a great motivator, so lets use his charisma to get the fans worked up.
It may only be appropriate for the NDSU and Iowa games, but I think it'd be a nice touch.
