Tyrone Appleton to Transfer

Self is making room for stars. KU's version of Clayton Mann and Wes Elkmeier.

Self is just bad at evaluating talent... he shoulda known that Appleton is just not cut out for Kansas. I can see people getting upset if his players continue to transfer like that... he may be out of a job soon. :jimlad:

What a complete idiot. That kid got some bad advice along the way. Did he HONESTLY think he was going to go into Kansas and play right away? I mean, really?

He could have come to ISU and either started or been a solid contributor. Now he's going to go to a D2 school and have 1 year left, unless he can still redshirt a year...

I get your "joke" but if you are trying to equate Kansas' situation and ISU's, you really need to lay off the sauce.

I'd equate the situation with Ours with Wes E and Mann. Transferring for more playing time because there are better guys coming in that he thinks will beat him out for PT.

That being said... I don't think they are the same talent level as Appleton... but the situation is the same... and I'd say it's a better situation to have guys leave because the team is too talented for them to get PT than for our high end talent to transfer to be on a better team.

will you apply the same arguement on Gmac in Mann's case?

I'd take Appleton.

Now that would be a waste of a scholly...I don't think he could even play here since he would lose his last year of eligibility with the in-conference transfer rules.

Self is having to make room for Collins to Aldrich to return since Aldrich has already said hes staying and Sherron's stock dropped like a rock in the post season.

All I mean is that Self wins. He has a national title, lost most of his players off that team and still made it to the sweet 16 this year, winning the regular season Big 12. If his players transfer it's because they weren't going to play, ever. McDermott has done nothing in 3 years at Iowa State and has a revolving door of players as bad as it gets. Kansas can afford to lose players to transfers because they just bring in 3 or 4 more McD AAs every year. McDermott loses average players and brings in average players to replace them. Fans have every right to question if McDermott is earning his money. Self has already earned his.

77 points on 55% shooting in 3 games will do that to you.

I understand that there is no requirement to have the slightest clue what you're talking about on these boards, but perhaps there should be.

ISU loses stars like Wesly Johnson, KU loses bench players.

FWIW, KU would have had Darrell Arthur, Julian Wright, Brandon Rush, and Mario Chalmers all playing for them if they didn't lose stars. They were just lost in a different manner. Also, I didn't realize that Wes Eikmeier and Clinton Mann were stars. They sure didn't play like it.

Actually, both of these KU transfers, when they committed, would have likely got playing time. After Appleton committed, Tyshawn Taylor changed his mind from Marquette to KU, and he beat out Appleton for time. After Thomas committed, KU secured commitments from the Morris twins, who were the 2nd and 3rd best bigs for KU. Quintrell might have had a shot to start had the team been the same as when he committed.

I'm not sure what the transfer rules are, but if I were McDermott, I'd at least put a call in to Quintrell Thomas. He could be a nice player in a year or two.

Yeah I don't think it was only the tournament, but the game against didn't help. Is he just a great college bball player who's game doesn't translate well to the NBA?

I don't understand your first sentence. But regarding your second sentence, that may be the case, just because he's pretty short and plays off the ball as much as he brings it up. Bill Self really likes combo gaurds (Chalmers, Robinson, Taylor, Sherron, Elijah Johnson, the new freshman next year), and that's what Sherron is. The NBA, however, doesn't really want a 5'10" PG without elite ball-handling and assist ability. I think he eased some concerns about his shooting and big-play ability during the tournament. I'm not sure he'll even try to test his status, (in my opinion, every junior in the country should) but I think he'll be drafted in the early second round when he comes out, and end up being a poor-man's Jameer Nelson.

He hasn't officially announced anything regarding the NBA yet, but he has said that he will "do whatever Bill Self tells him to do." Kind of interesting; I've never heard anyone before say they are giving complete control of their decision to their coach.
