Des Moines Event Venues

I am looking at different event venues in the Des Moines area for a corporate event. What are some of your favorite venues for events in the area? Probably need space for 75-105 people depending on the turnout.

Would have to be booze-friendly. Budget is semi-flexible. Usually this event is business-casual, so preferably not just at a dive bar type of place.

Feedback: Podcast Error

I was going to try to listen to the CW and Stanz break down the Caleb Grill and La'Michael Pettway commits podcast and got the following errors:

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /home/cyclonef/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-campfyre-sync/wp-campfyre-sync.php on line 233

Notice:
Trying to get property of non-object in /home/cyclonef/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-campfyre-sync/wp-campfyre-sync.php on line 344

I tried in multiple browsers and still got the same error.

Help support farmers at the WRNL Actually Helping Farmers Golf Outing

This summer, Wide Right & Natty Lite is hosting their first ever Actually Helping Farmers Charity Golf Outing to raise money to donate to Practical Farmers of Iowa. The outing will be on July 20th at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames. Cost is $85 per person ($340/team), and will cover green fees, cart, and a meal provided by Hickory Park.

More information and registration is here.

Taprooms

I've never been impressed by their beer but I thought I'd check out Mistress Brewing in Ankeny. The good news is that it's pretty nice and it has a ton of room. The bad news, I'm still not the biggest fan of their beer. I did have a stout from them that was infused with red hots, tootsie rolls, and hobernero's, which was pretty good.

What are your 5 favorites tap rooms in Iowa just based on the tap room itself? Mine it something like this:

Big Grove
Singlespeed
Toppling Goliath

Big drop off

Lion Bridge maybe
Lake Time maybe (Small and in a house. Cozy)

2019-2020 Basketball Season

Figured instead of jumping back and forth in the recruits threads. We can discuss here.

I hope Zion takes the big jump. I am hoping he pulls a Naz. Injury slowed him his freshman season and his sophomore season he starts showing the signs of what we thought we were gettings.

I think Lewis will make a good 7th man off the bench. Not sure his skill set is capable of every being the man but we need a guy like him to knock down big shots. Hopefully he starts showing those signs this season.

First big board I've seen to hold that many Cyclones. Surprised about Meeker though, but I'm not an O-line guy.

Being sued in small claims court (legal help)

My partner just received a summons and complaint notice for some past-due medical bills. It happened when she was super broke and didn't have any insurance. We are doing better now financially but definitely can't pay it all upfront. Neither of us has any legal experience and we are wondering what we can do next. How hard is it to appeal these things or negotiate a lower payment? Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Melanoma Monday

May is skin cancer awareness month and it's Melanoma Monday. If you haven't done so yet please schedule your annual appointment with a dermatologist for a screening.
Skin cancer can be deadly so educate yourself about skin cancer and encourage your family members and friends to do the same.
This morning while watching the Today show I learned that Kentucky football player Joshua Paschal is battling advanced Melanoma. This surprised me as it's widely thought that people with dark skin pigment are at much less risk for skin cancer. Joshua's cancer was a rare type of melanoma that he thought was a wart on the bottom of his foot. Joshua is still undergoing treatment for his form of melanoma, see the link to his story below.
I am just over three years into my personal battle with advanced Melanoma. We are so thankful for Dr. Markovich and his Melanoma team at the Mayo Clinic where we've been traveling at least every four weeks for the last three years. Much love and appreciation to my wife for her loving care and assistance throughout our cancer journey.

Take care all, Cyfan4good

HBO - At the Heart of Gold - Larry Nassar

Wife and I just watched this and all I can say is it is horrific and heart-wrenching. I was outraged when the story first broke and it's only gotten worse watching this documentary. My heart absolutely breaks for the HUNDREDS of young girls - now young women - he sexually abused.

The part that hurts the most for me is all it would have taken is ONE adult to the the right thing to end this violence. ONE ******* ADULT. They had thousands and thousands of opportunities and not a single ******* adult did the right thing.

My wive is part of Women Helping Women through the YWCA and her committee has secured the judge from that trial to speak at their annual event coming up. I am reluctant to go as my outrage will only grow but one of my roles as an adult is to look out for those that can't defend themselves and try to give them a voice.

Minutes after the show was over, after I wiped the tears from my eyes, my wife told me about being abused in HS in Davenport 40 years ago. I'm terrified to ask her the details and find myself wanting to stick my head in the sand like all the other adults - and the thought I might do that terrifies me.

Elijah Mitrou-Long

Hoping Elijah finds "his place". He has had a tough journey! Seems like a great young man.

"I’ve decided to take my talent elsewhere and finish my last year year at the collegiate level. This journey has been one that I wouldn’t change for anything and I’m ready for the next chapter in my book.”:EM-L

From the UT message board:
I'm sure Long will qualify as a graduate, even if he needs to take some summer classes. Ever hear the one about Zoran Talley cramming 27 hours into a single summer to get the grad exemption for ISU? If Long doesn't qualify as a graduate, then he's running the risk of ending his career a season too soon, and I suspect he has no intention of doing that.

Response: Talley? did he play with George Niang on some of the notable ISU teams under Fred H.?.......
