Athlon Preseason Top-25

https://athlonsports.com/college-football/top-25-college-football-rankings-2019

Also: An important note on Athlon's top 25 for 2019: This is not a preseason ranking of teams going into the season. Instead, this ranking takes into account where we project teams to finish after the national championship in January.

24. Iowa State

Iowa State is on the rise under coach Matt Campbell. The Cyclones are coming off back-to-back winning records in Big 12 play for the first time in program history, and this is the first time Iowa State has been projected by Athlon Sports to finish in the top 25. Running back David Montgomery and receiver Hakeem Butler left big shoes to fill in Ames after leaving early for the NFL Draft. However, the news wasn't all bad for the offense this offseason. Tom Manning returned to Ames from the NFL to call the plays, and quarterback Brock Purdy is one of the Big 12's rising stars. As a freshman in 2018, Purdy went 6-2 as the starter and threw for 2,250 yards and 16 touchdowns. The offensive line has room to improve but brings back all five starters from last season. Replacing Montgomery might be more of a committee approach, while Deshaunte Jones, Tarique Milton and transfer La'Michael Pettway lead the way at receiver. Iowa State led the Big 12 in run defense and held opposing offenses to just 22.9 points a game (also best in the conference). This unit boasts a strong front seven, anchored by end JaQuan Bailey and nose guard Ray Lima up front, with Marcel Spears and Mike Rose providing support at linebacker. The biggest concern for coordinator Jon Heacock rests at cornerback in finding a replacement for standout Brian Peavy and D'Andre Payne.

Others of note:
18. Iowa
11. Texas
6. Oklahoma

ISU vs UNLV 2021-FB

The game is 2 and half years away; however, this will be my first big trip away from my newborn son, so i'm already excited about it. Vegas itself will be a blast and this will provide Cyclone fans a more affordable road trip than a lot of the basketball tournaments. Wondering if people are already pumped and planning for this, and if so what to expect from a tailgating perspective. We are planning our guys trip for this weekend and besides the game will be doing:

Poker tourney
Hash House a Go Go
Saw Escape Room
Twilight Zone Mini Golf
Downtown

CBS P5 Coaching Rankings

CBS Sports ranked the head coaches of all 65 Power 5football schools (albeit in two separate articles). I was mildly surprised to find that they’d voted Matt Campbell in the Top 25–at #19! I was figuring they’d see him in the 30-35 range.

The times, they are a’changin’ in Ames, Iowa!

Question regarding what is and isnt an NCAA violation

I live in eastern Iowa, near Iowa City. My neighbor, who is a friend, is a big Hawkeye fan. He does not donate money to the university but does attend games. He has met several of the current (and recently graduated) players over the past few years and has ultimately ended up having them over to his house numerous times. When they come over, he and his wife always give them food and beer.

Is he considered a booster if he doesnt donate $ to the university? Does it matter? It seems like it would be an NCAA violation to me. Otherwise would be ridiculously easy (easier) to circumvent all rules about giving players benefits.

tldr: I think my Hawkeye neighbor is unintentionally committing NCAA violations

Board and Train

Does anyone have experience with board and train for their dog? If so, what are your opinions?

We adopted a male lab mix from the local rescue in February. We think he may have been a stray from South Carolina/Georgia. He's a year old. We just had his balls chopped off.

He is insane. We've tried everything to get him to behave better. We recently met with a dog behavior specialist and nothing seems to be working.

BBCode Tables?

I don't quite understand why simple bbcode tables aren't allowed on CF. I found a very old message from Jeremy in which he says it is for security reasons, that bbcode tables would necessitate allowing HTML in messages, and I don't understand that. Here is a simple bbcode table:

Column 1Column 2
Column 3George

No HTML that I can see.

Anyone manage their personal finances by spreadsheet?

There hasn't been a good personal finance thread in awhile so I thought I'd start one. There's a whole host of good apps and web sites out there to manage your money, but to this day I still use my own spreadsheet to do the job? Anyone else do the same?

I think there are a few reasons why I continue to do this even though it is almost certainly more work.

  1. Apps come and go and I'm hesitant to invest time to learn a new system that could be shut down or try to upsell me on something I don't want.
  2. There's a "black box" quality to a lot of these web sites where you plug numbers in and it returns results to you, but the assumptions or methodologies are hard to decipher. I want to see how they get from Point A to Point B, but often that is proprietary.
  3. Entering my own data, building my own budget, etc. forces me to engage with it in a way that a web site wouldn't.
  4. It's free; I pay a modest sum for a few version of Office every few years but that's it.

There are a lot of decent finance templates out on the web too, but I've mostly just built my own. I've had a day-to-day financial management spreadsheet for 20+ years, but more recently I've built a college savings calculator/manager and I'm working on a retirement sheet.

Ideas/tips/tricks welcome.
