Essential Household Items

Help me compile a list of essential items you always make sure you have backups of in your house. Mine currently are: Toilet paper, toothpaste, and deodorant. (This post may be related to a recent marital discussion) The wife recent chastised me for asking her to pick up deodorant for me immediately upon opeing my back up. She also can't understand why I would want multiple back up deodorants in the storage closet.

Oliver Martin Derangement Syndrome

Our baby brothers over on Hokeye Pokey Forum are all up in arms over the rumors of Oliver Martin leaving Michigan and transferring to the hoks. Apparently this isn't quite correct.

Talked with his dad over the weekend: Facts
He loves Michigan.
He's not ever leaving.
If he did, ISU would be his lean more then Iowa.
His field efforts do not out weigh his degree efforts.

Iowa's lack of WR involvement hurt and is still hurting with the newest recruits.

On That Note: The Animals (part 1): For the Birds

Welcome back to On That Note, a weekly music series hosted by @MeanDean, @cyclones500 and myself.

This week we are starting another topic that will feature several subtopics. We decided of doing a series on OTN where we focus on different types of animals. We are starting off with topic focused on songs, artists and lyrics with a bird reference.

Last week's topic was Mamas and Papas. Review it here:

Posts of the Month: May 2019

A few of my favorite comments, dialogue and zingers from CF, May 2019. I intended to post this late last week, but priorities spiraled beyond my grasp. (A couple of these are leftover from late-April).

Some comments are edited for clarity or brevity.
From the thread, “Post-spring top 25 The Athletic”
@Sigmapolis: Man, we should own the Big 12 North this year. I cannot wait for our showdown with Nebraska.

From the thread “What is Your Pet Peeve?”
@cmjh10: People, just in general.

@VeloClone: Drivers who drive in the left lane at speed X while there is no open lane to get around them. When the right lane is clear enough, they have no excuse for getting in it they will go X+20 to make sure no one passes them. When they get back to where they are passing they are traveling at X again.
@dosry5: Nobody told me there’d be algebra.

From the thread “Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) has passed away.”
@Acylum: Not to diminish his accomplishments, but even I could've played that role.
@shagcarpetjesus: Are you 7’2”?

From the thread “How should ISU honor Jack Trice more?”
@CYCLNST8: I have an idea: How bout we trample PJ Fleck's rib cage? I bet Jack would get a kick out of that.

From the thread, “Wheeler eyes May 6 decision”
@cstrunk: This would be a nice birthday gift.
@Cyched: I just bought you a strippergram, in case he commits to Georgia.

From the thread, “Cougar in Des Moines.”
@Trice: For a moment, I thought this was a personal ad.

From the thread, “Friday OT 2: To a Younger Me”
@Gunnerclone: Is (Adam & Eve) one of those Christian “book stores” I see around town?
@SpokaneCY: You have to ask at the front desk where the REAL hardcore Christian videos are.

From the thread, “CyHawk College GameDay”
@JP4CY I could see at Syracuse because of their journalism school producing a lot of ESPN's employees.
@jdcyclone19: And the fact ESPN has never been there before.
@ZB4CY: And it’s Clemson. And Syracuse almost beat them last year. And ESPN sucks.

From the thread, “Horton-Tucker pleads guilty”
@rhoho: It’s funny how Prohm and ISU keep this quiet until after the season
@Stewo: I know! THT basically killed a guy.

From the thread, “It’s That Time of Year (podcast series)”
@Cyclonepride: You should do a weekly annoying mystery poster feature. You ridicule what they posted the week before, we all put in our guesses about who it was, and once we figure it out, we ban them.

From the thread, “Guns ’n Roses Suing Oskar Blues.”
@Cybone: I am confused as what “good reputation” Guns and Roses is worried about being tarnished?
@matclone: It sounds like the band has an Axl to grind.
@BillBrasky4Cy: Little known fact: GNR also trademarked "Hepatitis" back in the early '90s as well.

"Hawkeyes serious National Title contenders for 2020-2021 season

I was doing a quick google search trying to figure out how the visit went for Iowa's potential grad transfer, and stumbled upon this article written a week ago by Andrew Wade of dearoldgold.. He was discussing how Jamari Sibley had included the Hawks in his final 10 schools, how the majority of schools who offered him were Big 10 (big flex), and also the outlook on how two seasons could look if they got him. Here's the full link and my comments/opinions.

https://dearoldgold.com/2019/05/23/...inching-closer-securing-top-100-recruit-2020/

First of all, Jamari Sibley would most definitely be a big get for a lot of schools, including Iowa, and there is no doubt a lot to be excited with when someone of that caliber includes you in their "top 10". However the writer starts off by mentioning his offers came from a majority of the Big 10. Looking at the photo Sibley tweeted out, I count 3 Big 10 schools, 2 ACC, 2 Big East, 2 SEC, and Iowa State being the lone Big 12 school. His profile on 247 shows he was also offered by Illinois and Rutgers, but there are many other schools in other conferences who offered him. I don't know why the writer stating "majority of the Big 10" erked me, but it did.

He then went on to talk about how getting Jamari could help bring in Xavier Foster and Jalen Suggs, both top players in the 2020 high school class. I'm not saying landing a guy like Jamari Sibley could not happen, but Iowa turning into Kentucky or Kansas and pulling 5-stars left and right is just insane. This guy is obviously drinking way too much kool aide (if there is any for Iowa basketball). The article comes full circle with him flat out saying the Hawkeyes would be a "serious contender for a national championship in the 2020-2021 season", with the contingent factor that Bohannon sits out this next season. Yes you read that right, Bohannon. He's going to be the "key factor" on that star studded hypothetical roster that brings them a title.

I would love to read everyone's thoughts / responses to this.

Favorite movies that predate you

Reading some of the favorite movies thread, and got me thinking. Which movies do you like that came out before you were born?

My list:
1. Animal House
2. Christmas Vacation
3. Hoosiers
4. Caddyshack
5. Shawshank (this came out when I was 3, but I was too young to know about it until later so I counted it)

If you’re an old fart, any classic movies will do ;)

What are yours?
