ISU Softball sign transfer pitcher

ISU has signed a transfer pitcher who only played basketball her freshman season at Bradley.

https://cyclones.com/news/2019/6/5/softball-cyclones-sign-transfer-pitcher-ellie-spelhaug.aspx

The article says that she will provide immediate help as ISU graduated two of their top pitchers. Does this mean that she will not have to sit out a transfer year? Is this because you don't have to in softball or because she was not on the softball team at Bradley. And, if she can play right away, will she have four years to play four since she has not used a year of eligibility in softball? (Kind of like Stevie Johnson playing a year of football after exhausting his basketball eligibility at ISU.)

So many questions...

Friday OT #2 - Before You Go-Go

What is your pick for "most 80s-sounding song from the 80s"? I am not sure how better to word this - songs that are so utterly 80s sounding that, even if you didn't know they were from the 80s already, you could tell just by listening to them.

Some examples:

"Wang Chung" - Wang Chung (so very many synthesizers)
"Take On Me" - A-ha
All things Rick Astley
"Come On Eileen" - Dexy's Midnight Runners (whimsical accordion, synthesizers, reedy vocals - also maybe my most-hated song from the decade)

If you want, feel free to do this for other decades, too. The 80s are just super-easy.

Friday OT #1 - Always a Bridesmaid, Never a Funeral

Thanks so much to @cyclones500 for this thread idea! I always welcome Friday OT ideas.

Summer is sort of the start of wedding season. With that in mind:

* How many times have you been a member of a wedding party? (not counting your wedding, if that applies). What “roles” have you served? Favorite/least-favorite experiences in that regard? Do you like being in a wedding vs. attending?

* Sports-related: Do you associate specific weddings with an Iowa State sporting event, for whatever reason? Such as, you couldn’t watch/attend a game due to wedding plans; weddings that coincided closely with an Iowa State game and you still associate it closely.

Ames U2 Concert 9/11/92 - Identify Girl Pulled From Audience

My buddy and I went to this concert.

This was back when you were not allowed to bring cameras in the venue.
My buddy was a master of the smuggled camera and clandestine photos.

Anyway, He got several pictures of the girl pulled up onto the runway with Bono.
At the time we couldn't do much about it but since then he's been wanting to make contact with her to provide the photos to her.

I volunteered to post one photo of her and Bono on CF figuring there was probably a semi-decent chance someone on here knows her and can work to connect the photographer and the subject.

Obviously it would have been a HUGE deal for her at the time and so her friends would have known about it. Hoping someone can make the connection.

PM me if you (are her or) know how to contact her.

Away FB Tickets

I received an email that away game football tickets are going on sale to Cyclone Club members and season ticketholders. Fine. We likely will trip down to Manhattan and maybe another away game. Last year we purchased tickets to the KS game through ISU only to be put in the very, very lower corner, even though we are long term season ticket holders. This was very disturbing. Fortunately, the stands were only about 50% full (if that) so we were able to move to good open seats. I like supporting the ISU ticket office, but only if the seats are reasonable. We want to sit with Cyclone followers if possible. So, what has worked best for others to get decent seats among Cyclone followers at away games?

QB Completion Percentage

Thought this was interesting... QB's with the best completion percentage in Iowa State history (min 100 attempts) top four are all Matt Campbell guys:

Kyle Kempt 66.7%
Brock Purdy 66.4%
Zeb Noland 60.2%
Jacob Park 60.2%

No other QB in ISU history has broken 60% for their career (min 100 attempts). Not that comp% is the only factor.... but thought it was crazy that the 4 starting QB's CMC has brought in have been the 4 most accurate passers in ISU history.

Front Pocket Wallets

I have a real life George Costanza type situation. My backs been hurting me for a while. I caved and went to the Dr. Apparently my hips were severely out of alignment. Dr adjusted me but said I can no longer sit on my wallet or cross my legs.

I've had a back pocket wallet forever. Do any of you carry a front wallet or money clip type wallet? If so have any good cheap recommendations?

Proposed Des Moines Zoning Changes

I debated whether or not to put this into the Cave but I think it should be in the Real Estate Section.

Apparently the City of Des Moines is going full we know best mode. This is absolutely crazy town and would halt new construction in the City. And that they try and couch this as cutting Red Tape is so disingenuous as to be laughable.

https://www.desmoinesregister.com/s...ity-zoning-code-home-construction/3740891002/

Consultants from Chicago spent 19 months examining every city street to determine appropriate scale and design guidelines based on the character of each neighborhood. (well now there's your problem)

The proposed code would require one-story homes have 1,400 square feet of finished space above grade, while a two-story home would need 1,800 square feet. Homes also would be required to have a full basement and a single-car garage.

PMP Certification

I'm considering asking my employer to pay for me to go through this training to get certified. I'm curious what others have done.

Has anyone out there done it and gotten certified?
Did you just do the one week boot camp? Or did you do a much longer course?
Was it worth it?
Was there a benefit to your career (whether at your current employer or a new job)?
Was it difficult?

I'm in the engineering/construction industry and I'm seeing it more often, but I haven't seen it be a big enough deal to choose candidate A over B.

Handyman or Business Person?

We've lived in our home for nearly 17 years and have done some renovating, adding on and roof/door/window replacement over that time. We worked with three different people for these jobs (first went to work for someone else, second is either retired or not doing this work anymore, third is retired) and now need someone or some people to do complete re-siding/gutter, dirt work to take care of compaction and wrong slope, and perhaps some new patio work.
While it would be great if you have worked with reputable folks in the Ames area and want to share your stories, what I'm more interested in now is whether you think it's money better spent with an individual handyman/person or self contractor with a personal touch and reputation to uphold OR a larger company who can do it all, probably faster and maybe less costly, but not as much of a personal touch?

Thoughts on Loofahs

I was recently encouraged to use a loofah in the shower to prevent unnecessary excess use of shower gel in there. I hope I am not in the minority in thinking that: because I do not have lady parts, I, therefore, am not qualified to use such a device in the shower. Pour shower gel in hand, apply to head, pits and other places, rinse and dry. It is not difficult. Thank you.

Oculus Quest VR

Just got one today and it is pretty amazing. Definitely a game changer for VR. I haven't had a lot of experience with VR outside of Samsung Gear VR and a little bit of PSVR. Definitely a better experience than those two IMO. Graphics are better on PSVR but resolution is higher in Quest and wireless makes a huge difference. Anyone else get one?

Mobile Season Tickets

Has anyone done these? Overall thoughts on getting them? I'm thinking about doing them as I have some friends that want to go to the ISU/Iowa game this year and maybe a few more. If I buy say 8 mobile passes, can I give individual game tickets to other people with the same mobile app? Could you screen shot the ticket and actually sell the ticket to someone? Just trying to get to as many games as possible without spending a lot. Normally I'd just try to make around 3-4 games a year, so this option would be a better buy I think since the Iowa game would be at least $100.
