Misc: CFL (Canadian Football League)

I'm low-key excited the CFL season starts tonight. I'm sure most on here haven't watched much but I find the style of football to be exciting. It's a little bit like arena football on a giant field. The teams are all pretty classic (Edmonton Eskimos, Montreal Alouettes, Toronto Argonauts, etc.) and the uniforms are clean and crisp.

One thing I've always wondered...why aren't more former Cyclones in the CFL? I think there are two on rosters for the upcoming season.

Cyclones have 2 commitments on the board right now. I have no idea if Nash is a lock for SDSU or Wisconsin, but that could make for a great class next year adding him to Robinson, Fisher, and possibly Kysen Terukina. Not sure who Clayton Ulrey is considering, but that would also be a huge addition.

On That Note: Around the Horn

Welcome back to "On That Note," a CF music series hosted by @MeanDean, @CycloneRulzzz and me, cyclones500. I’ll serve as your host for this segment.

Returning to our occasional mini-series about specific instrument groups … See Part 1 (Give Us Your Keys) here. This week, we explore songs that feature horns as a prominent ingredient. Focus mainly on brass and sax.

In addition to performers whose signature approach involves those instruments, we encourage tracks from artists who typically don’t anchor their work that way.

I’ll post my first selections shortly in a separate post, to get us going.

Do You Remember...Old Severe Weather Announcement

My family and I are sitting around talking about severe weather we have been through as my kids get really nervous when they hear the NWS break in over the radio or the alert goes off on our phones.

This led to me remembering how freaked out I would get in the late 80s - early 90s when the local tv stations would break into live programming with the SCARIEST, MOST ANXIETY INDUCING music to alert viewers to severe weather.

Did anybody else have this experience? Does anybody have any clips or examples of these that I can show my kids?

Excuse me while I go take my next dose of anxiety meds in anticipation.

Submit Your Hot Takes for the 6/12 Mid-Week Mailbag

It's time for the second ever #HotTakes edition of the Mid-Week Mailbag, inspired by intern Brandon's pod with Jared from a few days ago. Submit your own #HotTakes and I will judge them on how hot they are on a scale from 1-10.

Yes, Kansas winning 6 games is 10/10 on the hot scale.

Example of the first #HotTakes mailbag (oof, I was off on the early-entrants one...): https://cyclonefanatic.com/2019/01/mid-week-mailbag-hottakes-edition/

Renting a Cyclone Tent

Thinking about renting a standard tent for the Texas game (all games prior are sold out), as this is one of the bigger games on the schedule. $975 includes 4 parking passes and vendor pass to park next to the tent. Has anyone on here rented one before? Just wanting to get people's experience good and bad before pulling the trigger on it. TIA!!

Favorite Fan Interaction with Coach/Player

Thought this made for for good off season forum fodder.

My favorite one was a relatively long conversation I had with Montgomery last tailgate tour. That guy is absolutely the real deal and I was extremely impressed with his genuine care for talking with fans and kids. I couldn't be happier to root for him this year and am glad he's Clone.

My old man tells the story of a time he saw Johnny eating at a small town diner in western Iowa about the time Wayne Morgan just got hired as HC. My dad approached him, said Hi, and asked him about Wayne. Johnny released profanity laden tirade of his disgust with the hire and how the program was headed "right down grandpa's sh*t house". RIP Johnny. One of a kind and truly missed.
