Job Interview FUBARs

I have a job interview today for the first time in like 12 years. It's a vertical move to a better role and I am pretty excited about it. But, it is my first interview in like 12 years. I have had other moves during that time, but they were always within the same group and the interviews were nothing more than a formality.

I talk in front of people all the time, give large presentations and can BS with the best of them. But, for some reason I have some nerves today.

I like to face my fears, so...what is the biggest interview FUBAR you have ever been witness to?

I was interviewing someone for a position via the phone a couple of years ago. The lady was at home and warned me I might hear her kids in the background. About 10 or 15mins in I hear one of her kids screaming and carrying on. She politely says "Sorry about that, can I step away for a moment?" Of course I told her.

At this point the mild-mannered, soft spoken professional I had been interviewing goes into a screeching fit "SHUT UP! I AM ON THE DAMN PHONE! MOMMY TOLD YOU THAT YOU HAD TO BE QUIET!!!!"

I am assuming she thought she had put her phone on mute or something, but it was directly into my ear. She then came back with her normal tone like nothing happened and continued.

I was holding back laughter on mute on my end. She didn't end up getting the job, but it wasn't because of the chaos during the interview.

CRTC Fundraiser - Get on Our Tree - New updated video on July 16th

The Cyclone Regional Training Center and our ENTIRE program is branching out in so many ways!

To accomplish all of our goals and MORE I am releasing our first real fundraising campaign.

On top of completing a pretty good season on the mat, you probably saw that earlier this month we acquired a brand new 4-plex townhouse in Ames! We have athletes occupying our C-RTC Olympic House now.

It is my wish at this point to bring on board another post-graduate RTC Athlete who will train in Ames and live at the 4-plex.

TO do that AND to address the many areas of our program that are exploding right now, I thought it was time to release a stellar fundraising campaign. Please enjoy this short VIDEO introducing and explaining our 2019 Campaign: The RTC Tree.

Our 2019 goal is $750,000 and as you will see, we already are 30 percent of the way there before we have even formally kicked off this campaign. Check out the perks and gifts we are providing at each giving level to those who help us reach our goal. You can go to our website HERE for more info.

The funds we raise will support all our athletes -- post-graduate competitors, current college athletes, all the way down to qualified high school athletes who live within a 250-mile radius of Ames and train at the C-RTC.

If you are reading this, we want you! Jump on the RTC tree NOW and help us sustain the wrestling progress in Ames, Iowa!

Thanks for watching!

Iowa Corn Planting

Kind of late as of today, according to USDA, with the least amount of corn planted since 1982, is 95% complete https://whotv.com/2019/06/04/usda-iowa-farmers-have-planted-least-amount-of-corn-since-1982/.

Iowa is ahead of other corn belt states but still behind. Weather has affected Ag to the point of breaking: https://www.washingtonpost.com/busi...n-farmers-throw-towel/?utm_term=.1ed0effa1015

But good news for Soybeans https://www.accuweather.com/en/weat...s-some-good-news-for-soybean-farmers/70008577

Good time for looking at futures.

On That Note - Troubles Seemed So Far Away

Hey all, welcome to another edition of On That Note. OTN is a music-themed regular weekly post, Wednesdays here on CF. Your hosts vary from week to week. This week is my turn in the barrel. The other guys are @cyclones500 and @CycloneRulzzz.

This week we're thinking about the past. The theme is Songs that are Nostalgic, containing lyrical content that looks back at the past in a positive memory. Thus the title "Troubles Seemed So Far Away" which is a snippet of the lyrics from Yesterday, by the Beatles, of course. I will take that one as one of my first 5 to kick off the thread. Actually, all 5 initial links from me will be Yesterday - plus one each from the Fabs during their solo years.

ONE HUGE CLARIFICATION - PLEASE! This is only songs that in and of themselves have nostalgic content in the lyrics. It is NOT supposed to be some generic song that you just happen to remember fondly from your youth. In other words, a post like, "I remember Jump by Van Halen from back in the day hanging out at the mall with my friends."

Last week's OTN is about Horns/Brass in songs. https://cyclonefanatic.com/forum/threads/on-that-note-around-the-horn.248474/

Would you take a non lethal gunshot to the thigh in exchange for an Iowa State national championship

Saw this question on r/cfb, and it made me curious to see how the CF crowd would respond. Personally, I’d take it for an natty in football

Edit: on the reddit post there are 2 assumptions. 1) the team wins the title in your lifetime, but you don’t know when; and 2) you don’t know the severity of the wound. It could be a flesh wound or you could limp for the rest of your days

Should Michigan Embrace the Fab 5?

Now that Howard is the coach? If you were not around back then these guys were a show. Like must see TV when they played. Some of them took money in college, shocking, however, so many players have taken money in college now it almost seems ridiculous that it's even a thing. I mean Auburn still embraces Cam Newton.

I don't like Michigan. I loved watching the Fab 5 though. Epic battles with Hurley and Laetner were awesome for all basketball fans.

Highways 3 & 4

Just drove both of these highways this past weekend. They are in extremely poor condition, especially Hwy 4 from Highway 20 north to Emmetsburg! Felt like parts of my vehicle were falling off! Any idea of how soon they will be upgraded/repaired? Any other nominees for worst state or national highway in Iowa?

Travel - Washington DC

Was wondering if anyone had any tips for visiting Washington DC. I already have times booked for White House tour, FBI building tour, and Holocaust museum tour. I plan on seeing all the monuments and definitely Arlington National. Would appreciate any other tips, must see, etc. I will be there for 7 days and all 3 of my scheduled tours are on 1 day so I have plenty of time. THANKS!

State of Iowa rejected vanity license plates

OK...this could be fun. The Register has a link to the database of all the rejected personalized license plates people have requested and been denied by the IA DOT. Haven't looked long, but here is a couple examples:

1BADMF
1HODOWN

https://features.desmoinesregister.com/news/test/license-plates/deniedplates.html

For most of them it is hard to know what, if any , meaning was behind them.
