Medical advice about my foot

I recently got some orthotic insoles made because I walk sometimes 16 hours of the day on a concrete slab, and I was pronating from my naturally neutral step. I was noticing a pain in my arch which I had always thought was plantar fascia related, but the guy who made the insoles for me checked where I was having my pain and we thought maybe it was instead a bone spur on the arch which is rubbing on the lower big toe tendon as it passes under my arch. It's pretty painful so I bought these compression sleeves with gel pads meant to help with plantar fascia pain because I wasn't able to put pressure on it yesterday. They worked like a charm the first day without much pain at home after getting off. After this second day however I have strange sensation like I get when my foot falls asleep right where that gel pad was riding under my arch. It's discolored as well, more of a red, but not what I would call a bruise color, at least not yet. Any idea what the heck is going on?

Jim Bouton is gone

The author of the most irreverent, talked-about sports book of the 1970s has died. Jim Bouton, author of Ball Four, passed away yesterday at the age of 80.

Bouton wrote his book - more or less a diary of the 1969 MLB season - while pitching for the Seattle Pilots (who would go on to become the Milwaukee Brewers) and the Houston Astros. His book gave readers a view into all the funny, nasty, goofy things that happen when talented young men are together on a daily basis.

I loved the book - I still use quotes from it. If you want to read a genuinely funny and honest book, do yourself a favor and find a copy.

CF College Fantasy Football League

Hey everyone it's intern Brandon here! I am an avid College football fan if you haven't noticed yet (Go Jayhawks lol) I even host a podcast with a few of my friends called the College Fantasy Football Gurus! I play in many College Fantasy Football Leagues and they are a ton of fun. You can play full FBS or you can just do Power 5. Both are a blast. I am kicking around the idea of creating a league, is there any interest?

MLB: Robo Plate Ump is finally tried out

Robo balls and strikes ump is finally here. I am ready for this. It's been getting frustrating seeing how many balls get called as strikes with the advanced technology the fans and the dugout get to see while the balls/strikes get influenced by umps checking the catchers glove or thinking Altuve and Judge have the same strikes zone. Bring robo guy on. No more "Well, Bob's behind the plate today and he gives you the outside strike." or "Well, It's Jimmy callin' today so adjust your strike zone six inches high" ********.

Article actually covers this debut in some depth including how they figure in biometrics for each player to adjust strike zone for each at bat. Some of the low pitches will now be balls. Some of the nastier breaking stuff may be shown to catch plate and be a strike. Some of the borderline stuff the umps are just guessing at anyway.

Misc: Injury Risks Young pros face

Thought this was an interesting article from ESPN. It is specifically about NBA players but I think it can be applied across all sports. Don't agree with everything they say in there but there is a lot of good stuff. I think that the miles put on young kids these days in their sports is definitely a problem. My nieces play softball and you see young kids like 12 years old getting ligament tears or other other injuries like that. They play year round and play a ridiculous amount of games. And the focus on one sport is another problem.

I think the push for higher intake of dairy products is off though.

Any Experience with Venture Capital Investments

I'm looking at making an investment in a Company that is currently doing their Series B Capital Funding. This would be a personal investment. I know the company fairly well and have dealt with some of their management team in the past.

I'm getting ready to sign a NDA and that will give me access to their investor information. But I'm early in the process and have never explored this before.

Has anyone here had experience with this? Probably most interested in things to watch out for in this type of situation.
