Geez C-Dubs, lighten up!

Who knew that @ChrisMWilliams was a public artist with undies in a bundle!

From today's Des Moines Register:

Chris Williams was shocked when he learned that his mural was part of a Super Bowl commercial earlier this year. The 35-year- old Des Moines artist painted the colorful collection on squares and rectangles at Sixth and College Avenues in 2018. It was part of a community project in the Riverbend neighborhood.
Williams said no one sought permission to use the mural, and Hy-Vee, which ran the ad, did not give him credit or compensation. He is now suing Hy-Vee for copyright infringement. “I felt very confused about seeing my art being used by Hy-Vee on a presumably multi-million dollartelevision commercial." “People who recognized his mural in the campaign would have concluded that Williams ‘sold out,’ diminishing the value of his work and reputation,” the lawsuit says.

New Cheating Tactics in College Sports & Michigan Football.

John Bacon's new book on Michigan Football will be out Sept 3. Interesting excerpt from Ch 3, "Hard To Beat the Cheaters":

"....
There is little evidence that the NCAA does any more these days. For an earlier book I spent almost every Wednesday night of the 2012 season talking with Louisiana native-turned-Penn State star Mike Mauti, who had turned down money from several Southern schools before accepting Penn State's offer of a scholarship, an education, and an opportunity -- nothing more.

"I know for a fact there are players getting paid [at other schools]," Mauti said. "Guys I know are getting tens of thousands of dollars a year. They give you credit cards until they run out. There's a lot of money involved. One hundred thousand dollars? Over the course of five years? Easily. I was offered money. They don't come out and say they're going to give you this money, but their players know the way things work, and they tell you. It's a different culture out there."

Mauti and I shared the stories we'd heard about coaches channeling money through churches, a practice that few Southern politicians or reporters would dare investigate; offering jobs to the parents in the city or county, not the school; giving recruits credit cards in someone else's name, or cases of casino chips to cash in; and two relatively new tricks, having a booster buy the family's home for far more than market value, and telling players to take their beat-up junkers into a Mercedes dealership, where they receive a high-end "loaner car" while they wait for a replacement part -- which could take years, it turns out.."

Mpls Star Trib feature on 2020 Cyclone QB Aidan Bouman

Quarterbacks without peer: Dual-threat danger Jalen Suggs, drop-back classic Aidan Bouman

prepsweb2_large.jpg

Bouman has about three months of high school football left. He committed to the Iowa State Cyclones before last season and spent much of his summer in classrooms, preparing to graduate early. He expects to be in Ames, preparing for his freshman year, in early January.

The other QB profiled, Jalen Suggs, is someone we were in on for basketball.

Not as in-depth as Jared Stansbury's CF piece from June but nice coverage by the Star Tribune nevertheless.

Outdoor hose/spigot question

Attached are a couple pics of my exterior hose/spigot. Backstory: Ever since I moved in a couple years ago, when I turn on the hose(actually both exterior hoses), there is a very small leak that has come from the top "cap" of the spigot. Nothing crazy, but noticeable and I wanted to fix it. Last week I twisted it off and found the rubber washer was torn. I also noticed the white plastic piece that was screwed into the cap was slightly broken/mishaped, not sure if that was already there or if I did that when screwing it off.

This is the item I think I currently have: B&K 888-183 Frost Free Anti-Siphon Wall Faucet

I haven't been able to find these exact replacement parts at any hardware stores near me. My question is: Do I need to replace with this exact item, or can anyone recommend a similar piece that I can buy at Home Depot, Ace, Menards, etc? I guess, what is the purpose of this item with the multiple pieces/filter, instead of just using a plain old cap that I can screw on? I'm sure these are dumb questions but I don't know anything about plumbing. Thanks!

Pat Forde predicts Cyclones to Big 12 title game

Link: https://sports.yahoo.com/forde-yard...ns-and-4-picks-for-the-playoff-041102253.html

From Pat Forde's "Forde-Yard Dash"

- Minnesota, Iowa State and Missouri will all be undefeated going into November. The first College Football Playoff rankings will be released on Nov. 5. Are you ready for the Gophers, Cyclones and Tigers to all be in the top 10, and perhaps even one or two of them in the top five? Because it says right here that’s going to happen, before reality arrives like a fence post swung by Buford Pusser the following Saturday.

Minnesota, with an abundance of returning experience, will be 8-0 after playing South Dakota State, at Fresno State, Georgia Southern, at Purdue, Illinois, Nebraska, at Rutgers and Maryland. Then comes a visit from Penn State that will draw a lot of attention.

Missouri will be 8-0 after playing at Wyoming, West Virginia, Southeast Missouri, South Carolina, Troy, Mississippi (all at home), at Vanderbilt and at Kentucky. The last of those games is no lock, since Mizzou has lost four straight to the Wildcats, but karma will circle back around after last year’s robbery in Columbia. The Tigers will then lose by four touchdowns at Georgia on Nov. 9.

Iowa State will be 8-0 after playing Northern Iowa, Iowa, Louisiana-Monroe, at Baylor, TCU, at West Virginia, at Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. Then comes a trip to Oklahoma. But you heard it here first: The Cyclones are going to the Big 12 Championship Game.

Who gets the first Touchdown for ISU 2019

UNI has to plan for a new Running Back and a new "go to or big play" Wide Receiver, both of which are even an unknown to ISU fans at this point. Scoring ISU's first touchdown in this 2019 season is crap shoot as to who gets the privilege to do so. I happen to believe Brock Purdy will either score or be involved in scoring the first Touchdown of the 2019 season. Share your thoughts as to who will score for ISU first in 2019.uni isu.jpg

How do think it will turn out in the B12?

Here's my guess and it's certainly that because so many changes have happened since last year.

1. Texas - solid QB play and depth (must beat LSU to set the stage)
2. ISU - if they stay healthy with that defense will challenge for championship game title (must beat Iowa)
3. OU - lost too much on the line of scrimmage and this guy's not Heisman quality
4. TxT - excellence at QB and other parts will be the B12 surprise
5. Bu - solid QB play for third-year coach
6. K-State - Klieman behind quality on both lines of scrimmage will show why he has 7 rings
7. TCU - getting a lot of preseason blow for starting K-State's second-team QB
8. oSu - still don't know who's at QB
9. WVU - Dana left little
10. Ku - Les may be institutionalized before season ends

Actually, after the first three standouts, I haven't a clue how the other 7 will playout. Yours?

It's Finally Game Week!!

After waiting for what seemed to be eternity, the season is finally here. After a whole off season of chugging Koolaid, the time has finally come. This could be the year things go to a whole new level never seen before in Ames. I could not be more excited for football this fall!!! Screw it, I might take the whole week off in anticipation. Whose excited for Cyclone Football?!?!

Monday OT #2 - A Grower, Not a Shower

Thanks again to @madguy30 for the idea! It's sort of a flip of last week's: shows or movies you didn't think were very good when they first came out, but then realized they were great.

A couple for me:

- Punch Drunk Love - I've long been a fan of Paul Thomas Anderson, but thought this was super dull and slow when I saw it in the theater. I've grown to appreciate it more as time has gone on.

- The Big Lebowski - I thought it was just okay the first time I saw it, but now really enjoy it.

Monday OT #1 - You Don't Know What You Got Til It's Gone

Thanks to @madguy30 for both the suggestions to do Monday OTs here in the off-season, as well as the following ideas!

What are things you have a deeper appreciation for later in life after they've happened?

Like, for me - fighting my children to take a nap has made me realize how absolutely dumb kids are to not relish taking a nap every day of their life. It's also sort of magical to have people chauffeur you around before you're 16, and we don't realize how good we had it until we're about 25.

What are yours?
