Posts of the Month: August 2019

My monthly roundup of favorite comments and quips.

For a few stretches in August, I was on-board sporadically or didn’t have time to document. I’m sure I omitted some good stuff. Anything good you think isn’t included, add it to the thread.

Some entries are edited for clarity or brevity.

@Cycsk: 9,030 pieces?

From “Iowa-ISU 2019”
@Walmartthieves: Does Stanley have a countdown clock for ISU like CMC has for Iowa?
@Statefan10: Probably not, but he does have a countdown clock for his next meal.

From “Hall of Fame Game is On.”
@CloneGuy8: If you're a degenerate like me and crave any sort of football, the Falcons and Broncos are on NBC.

From “David Still Being David” (regarding Montgomery)
@IASTATE07: Thought this thread might be about David Irving.

From “Automotive Advice”
@Cy4Lifer: Currently driving a 2014 Odyssey … At a recent service appointment, my technician said the vehicle will be due for factory-recommended timing belt and water pump replacement. Is this something I should take seriously or is this just a money grab?
@cowgirl836: Nah, wait til the radio can't drown out any odd noises. That's your signal to get it looked at.

From “Washer/Dryer Recommendations”
@1100011CS: Looking to replace our front-loading Maytag set that sounds like it's going to explode. My wife prefers front-loader, but that's really the only requirement.
@internetman: Get Bosch or your wife will leave you. Mine did.

From “Monday-ish OT: Yes. But No”
@Pat: I was shocked to discover Hasselhoff’s acting has ALWAYS been that bad.

From “Miami vs. Florida”
@Rabbuk: Miami looks like they haven’t practiced.
@Rabbuk (40 minutes later): Florida looks like they haven’t practiced.

From “Want Some Purdy Kool-Aid?”
@UNIclonefan: I'll probably contract diabetes from all the Iowa State Kool-Aid I'm consuming, and I don't mind.
@RING4CY: I’m here for a good time, not a long time.

From “How Do You Think Big 12 Will Turn Out?”

Dirty Money on Netflix - Payday Loan Shark

I just watched this Netflix documentary on Scott Tucker who was a huge payday loan guy in Kansas City. He operated illegal payday loan businesses in KC under the guise they were owned by Indian tribes in Oklahoma. His businesses ripped off consumers approx. $1.3 billion. His lack of remorse and blaming the government in this show is sickening. He's currently serving 16 years in prison but imo that isn't enough he's scum and I hope he gets shanked in prison.

Oh and his Attorney is just as big of a scum and is in prison too.

If you get a chance watch this.

Cowboys In Tights Versus Beavers Under Lights

Okie State opens the season with late night matchup with Oregon St @ 9:30 pm in Corvalis:
OSU is a ner 2 TD favorite. Is that maybe a tad optimistic? these late nigh west coast games can go sideways, expecially when the second half starts at midnigt Central time.

Who else is going to party too hard tonight because football starts tomorrow?

only to regret it in the morning? Every Friday night I’m convincing myself it will just make me stronger later. Just a couple beers turns in to tequila. Then the next thing you know you’re in a car in a parking lot of a bar doing blow on a cd case. Then it’s back to the tequila and beer and before you know it you’re at a strangers house for after hours passing a huge doobie.

Then the next thing you know it’s decision time...about 4:00am...stay up or go try to go to sleep? It might take a half bottle of NyQuil. Do you risk it?

Biggest college football player

I was watching the Gopher game last night and noticed that one of their OL was just a massive human being.

So I looked him up, and he's 6'9" and 400 lbs. So I kind of kept an eye on him for a while, and he was constantly getting beat to the outside on passing plays, at least while I was watching. He was obviously better in the run blocking, but IMO he was terrible at pass pro.

He's only a sophomore and is still learning the game since he's from Australia, and they seem very confident he'll be an NFL player someday. Here's a story on him....

Truck Bed Liners

Picked up a new truck the other day and I’ve been doing a little research on bed liners, but not sure what I really want to do. Seems there are plenty of pros and cons for any option.

I’ve narrowed it down, I think, to spraying the liner or a mat system.

Any thoughts from the good folks on CF?

RV: Q & A

Hoping that this can help others as well, so I'm leaving the title pretty generic.

I had a relative tell me they just purchased an RV and they are hoping to bring it to Ames for a football game. They were wondering what they needed to do to park, how they acquire a decent spot, what kind of amenities, yada-yada-yada.

I have no freaking idea, so I figured I would come to CF. I guess my biggest question is: is there a ticket exchange (other than on CF) where people re-sell their RV passes? Does the University sell out of RV passes or can they be purchased through the AD for stand-alone games?

I appreciate your responses. Feel free to hijack this thread with any other RV-related topics or advice you may have.

Go Cyclones!
