Just Curious. Is Pat Forde Always A Patronizing Jerk?

I don’t pay as much attention to media personalities as some people, but this really struck me. Who the hell is Pat Forde?

I was pretty much enjoying a reasonably interesting article, when I ran across Iowa State at #8, I wasn’t terribly surprised, though I didn’t really agree with his take.

But the very last paragraph of the that section was pure, unadulterated jack***.

Listening to games on iheart in 2019

Got busy yesterday morning making wine and missed kickoff. Told alexa to play 100.3 on iheart so I could listen to the game, and was rudely greeted with 70s rock music. My first reaction was that our intro song had regressed horribly, but that couldn't be the case. Kickoff was 10 minutes ago.

Is listening to games on iheart not a thing anymore? I swear I did this last season. Tune-in claims that it is possible, but I grabbed my radio instead of messing with it.

Hurricane Dorian - Battle 4 Atlantis

With this last 8am update from the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Dorian has been upgraded to Category 5 with 160+ MPH winds.

The center eye is expected to pass over Grand Bahama which is about 100 miles north of New Providence Island/Paradise Island where Nassau and the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament is.

Those southern islands are currently forecasted to have over 24 hours of tropical storm winds (39-73MPH but likely on the lower end) with gusts higher as the storm stalls. The resort is on the worst side for storm surge as well, which is expected to be 15 feet in Grand Bahama but I haven't found anything about New Providence or Paradise.

Obviously a sports tournament isn't a priority in all this but thought people might want to know the impact. I would say the current likelihood of the B4A being canceled is slim but if you were planning on doing anything in the north islands during your stay, those would probably be canceled.

Struggling against FCS

Been thinking of past teams that lost or barely beat an FCS school early and went on to have a great season.

2009: Iowa 17 UNI 16
Iowa needed 2 blocked fgs to seal win. Iowa went on to win Orange Bowl.
UNI finished 7-4.

2010: Virginia Tech 16 James Madison 21
A Tyrod Taylor let VT team loses to JM and goes on to win 11 games in a row and win the ACC Championship. Lost in Orange Bowl.
James Madison finished 6-5.

2011: Kansas State 10 Eastern Kentucky 7
KSU went on to win 10 games and play in Cotton Bowl.
Eastern KY finished 7-5.

2012: Wisconsin 26 UNI 21
Wisconsin needed a late 4th and 1 stop to seal the victory. Went on to win Big 10 Championship and played in Rose Bowl.
UNI finished 5-6.

These are all examples to help ease the we can’t be any good if we can’t dominate an FCS team thinking. Any others?

Iowa arrogance

Iowa fans are now 100% sure of themselves that they are coming into Ames in 2 weeks and will piss pound us.
Their confidence will be off the rails when they win 49-3 today and 56-0 against Rutgers next week.

Not gonna lie though, I’m not sure I’m any less optimistic about 2 weeks from now after today. This isn’t the first time we dodged an FCS scare and went on to beat Iowa.

-2011, needed a Steele Jantz Hail Mary to beat UNI. Couldn’t move the ball at all that day. Looked 100x better week 2.
-2005, nearly lost at home to Illinois State, dominated Iowa 23-3

Take Iowa for instance. They nearly lost to UNI in 2009. Needed 2 fgs blocked to beat an average FCS team that year. Started that year 9-0.

Thought our defense was as good as advertised today. That’s going to be a unit that any team will struggle to score on this year. Mike Rose was an absolute animal today.

Offensively, at times we weren’t bad I thought. Just seemed to struggle to sustain drives but at other times seemed to move the ball okay. Pass blocking wasn’t great at times today but thought the run blocking was improved. UNI has always looked solid at the LOS under Farley. Also thought we ran a pretty basic set of plays today and didn’t open much up. Will see more obviously in 2 weeks. Another positive I see is with the scare today this team will be fully focused going into the bye week. All in all I still believe this is a great team.

Is Purdy Hurt?

Three things:

No deep balls. I don't care if Butler is not here you can go long. I think there was one pass of about 20 yards but it was horrible, wobbly and wildy inaccurate. Reminded me of a Paul Rhoads coached QB.

Rewatch the game and look at most of Purdy's throws. His motion looked awful, seemed pretty different from last year.

No carries for Purdy. He had 2 'carries' but they were actually sacked for those. The Purdy TD that was called back, he was EXTREMELY hesitant to run on that play, almost scared.

Maybe I am crazy but maybe I am seeing something.
