Former ISU golfer Chris Baker qualified for the PGA Tour by finishing in the top 25 of the Korn Ferry tour (yes, super odd name - formerly known as Web.com tour, Nationwide tour, Nike tour and others). I do not know if he is fully exempt or has conditional status, but he will be a 2020 PGA Tour cardholder. Until now, he has played one PGA Tour event in 12 years.
He didn't make it easy on himself - having a nice cushion, he doubled the 17th hole and arrived at the 18th tee needing a par to get his card. He put his drive in a bunker off the tee on 18. He followed that with a good bunker shot, but left his long putt for birdie well short.
The entire season of play came down to a 6-8 foot par putt to qualify. He has to make it or it's back to the development tour next year. He snuck it in the side door and I'm sure his heart was leaping as it rolled around the corner and dropped. I was nervous as hell watching him and can only imagine what he was feeling.
119 entered, 117 remain depending on the Notre Dame game. Please make sure your name is on post #3
Rules/How to Play if you are new:
Pick a team you think will win that weeks game. Pick only 1 team per week.
Don't pm me the pick, post on here your pick.
You can only pick that team ONCE the entire time you are in the game.
The goal is to advance and be the last person standing.
Only games that have a FBS school facing another FBS school are eligible to be picked (no ISU-UNI due to UNI not being FBS).
You have up until the start time of the game you picked to switch. (Ex: If you pick Duke over Army, you can't change to another game after that game has started.)
If your team loses, you are out for the competition.
If you skip a week of picks, you are out.
You can switch as many times up until the game you have picked officially starts.
If you have questions, pm me
Post 2 of the thread will have the possible games you can pick.
You can only pick teams that are undefeated (they will be bolded).
You can't join in during the middle of the season.
Have any questions, pm me or ask in the thread. Thanks!
Just got back from Palm Springs, CA and it got me thinking about retirement housing. Everyone’s idea of perfect is so different but I wonder what options people are considering. Do you just buy one place in a warm climate and if so where? Do you keep a small place in the Midwest and then “winter” some place warm?
Wondering if the UNI linebacker Spencer Cuvelier is related to, or possibly son of former ISU great **** Cuvelier. Both are from NE Iowa.
Maybe it's already been discussed, but sure caught my attention and aroused my curiosity when I heard that name come over the speakers during the game.
My husband and I saw several tailgates with ISU mats. They looked nice-especially for those tailgates that were set up on grass/landscape chips. I looked for them online, but am coming up empty. If you have them, where did you find them?

I currently have Direct TV but am getting tired of price increases. I’ve had several discounts that I’ve gotten from threatening to leave, but they are all expiring and my package price has nearly doubled. It appears that since ATT took over that they have clamped down on retention discounts. Does anyone have Dish Network and know if I’ll be able to get the same access to Iowa State football and men’s basketball games that I currently get with Direct TV? Streaming isn’t a good option for me due to living in the country without good access to high speed internet.
I don't like to jump the gun reporting injury news usually but Peterson put out a nugget on Twitter yesterday so I thought I'd comment that I am hearing it's not a season ender. Not an ACL. More of a week to week thing depending on how rehab goes. Makes me believe it's more like an MCL sprain or something like that. Matt has a teleconference today at 11 so we will probably hear more then.
So, from what I can put together, we know of the following transactions
Players on active rosters:
David Montgomery - Bears
A.J. Klein - Saints
Kelechi Osemele - Jets
Jomal Wiltz - Dolphins
"Other":
Hakeem Butler - on IR (broken bone in hand)
Willie Harvey - Browns' practice squad
Allen Lazard - Packers' practice squad
Jake Campos - released by Cowboys - not on practice squad (spent last season on practice squad)
D'Andre Payne - released by Titans - not on practice squad
Brian Peavy - released by Cardinals in July
Matthew Eaton - released by Bucs - not on practice squad
Am I missing anyone? Updates?
Wiltz is kind of a surprise but he has been on the Eagles' and Pats' practice squads the last two seasons. And my Dolphins are currently at about a CFL-level of football talent but at least he's got a chance to show what he can do.
People on here saying he didn't play well. 30-41, 278, 2 TDs, no picks. Seems like a good line to me. And he threw himself on that fumble to save the the V. Team is confident with him in charge. Offense may need work but it will get there. Looking forward to him torching the Hawks.
Hey all, figure there are a ton of truck owners on here and everyone probably needs a break from talking about the game yesterday so I should get some decent advice. I’ve owned a Toyota Camry for 10 years now and our other vehicle is a Pacifica. Looking at upgrading to something with a little more room for the kids and something that is bigger, handles better in the winter, can haul stuff like kids sporting gear or other items and has the ability to tow. Have looked at SUVs and am not sold on that route (owned two different ones before the Camry). Have never owned a truck before so I’ll take whatever advice you want to throw my way. I’m kind of leaning towards the dodge ram 1500 size truck or like model in the Chevy, ford, or gmc. Any input is appreciated! Alright. Go!
I'm looking at a possible job change. The prospective employer is a very small company (< 20 employees) so there is no group health insurance. They give me $250 per month to put towards my own purchase of health insurance.
2 kids, wife, and me. We do use our insurance quite a lot as we require multiple prescriptions. In a couple years, we have hit out of pocket maximums.
I know it will cost WAY more than $250 per month, I'm trying to figure out how much more. Anyone here in Iowa who buys their own health insurance on the exchange (Affordable Care Act, etc)? If so, are you willing to share how much you pay per month, what your deductible is, co-pay/co-insurance, and out-of-pocket max?
I've looked in a lot of places online and it's very hard to find this info.
OU is favored by more than 3 TDs. But Houston beat OU decisively a few years ago, and the talent pool in Houston hasn't dried up any, And with all the energy around Dana Holgersen's debut as the Cougar's HC, shouldn't this line be a bit smaller?

I watched it and I have some thoughts.
***Note: I will be critical of some players. That doesn’t mean I’m hating on them or want them to suck and be benched. I root for everyone***
1. Pro: We didn’t play as poorly as my emotions indicated. We seemed to be have a nice rhythm most drives.
2. Con: O-Line Play. I’m going to lump TE’s in this as well. JGJ and Meeker were abysmal. Some of the pass-rushing defenders were already at their hip before they started to move. JGJ got worked regularly through out the game; Meeker’s misses were less frequent but they were big whiffs. Fortunately, some of the misses were missed assignments which hopefully will be cleaned up in the bye.
For TE’s, I missed Seonbuchner. Soenher was very underwhelming. There a few significant plays where Soehner and Kolar get WORKED while blocking.
The guards and Newell held their own for most of it.
Pro: Skill players are solid. Apart from a few drops, receiver some were making plays and blocking sufficiently. Running backs worked with what they could.
Con: Play-Calling in critical moments. For most of the game, it was solid. Sure, I wanted to see Purdy sling the ball down the field more, but we were moving the ball fine. But when I came down to converting 3rd and 4th downs, yikes. I think they tried to be cute, but it didn’t work against such a disciplined team.
Pro: Defense. They got the job done.
Con: Secondary holes. Justin Bickham struggled. He was out of position for quite a few plays and missed open field tackles. Azunna came in and missed some tackles, too.
Final thought: I think we will be ok. This team is talented and we have two weeks to tighten things up. We are 1-0.
