NSCR: NASCAR 2024 thread

Daytona week is here! Qualifying takes place Feb 14 for the front row and Thursday Feb 15 will be the twin 125s to determine the rest of the starting order.
I always look forward to watching the Daytona 500. While you can have some long stretches of single file racing you also get some of the craziest moves when cars start shuffling around trying to get their nose out into clean air for that final run to the checkered flag.

NCAA Tournament Officiating

I am really enjoying the ride so far, but I am really concerned that in the NCAA tournament the officiating may be concerning. Every night in the Big 12 is a rock fight and fouls may not get called. I am concerned that officials that are not used to the Big 12 style will call a game differently and we will be in big foul trouble and negate some of our defensive effectiveness. This can lead to a big upset. I know West Virginia in the past could get knocked out really early due to games being called differently.

Iowa State is the new Press Virginia

It hit me last night listening to Settles. Early in the game he said, regarding what its like to play against us, "Iowa State makes you hate playing basketball" and he meant it as the highest complement. We are the team that everybody absolutely hates to play. Coaches lose their minds every game against us. High major players get flustered against us. Fans constantly complain about us. TJ has made this program into a monster.

The only recent comparable team I could think of was Huggin's Press Virginia squads from a decade or so ago. Obviously our play styles are quite different, but the impact is just about the same.

Road wins are fun!

I know us Cyclone fans are not used to road wins, but we've won three games on the road in conference thanks to Otz and crew! It's been a fun season and with the way we're able to play on the road, I think we can win two more (I'm not expecting a win at Houston, but that would be sexy if we could somehow pull that off). We're in a great spot to finish in the top three of the conference this season. This guy that Applebees named a burger after is a pretty special coach.

That was a big TEAM win today, with so many guys contributing. Who gets the nod?

Lipsey - total floor general tonight

C Jones - was on fire that second half and hit some clutch shots

R Jones - usual toughness, made some shots early on while the other guys were cold

Gilbert - also generated some offense when needed

I think 125 is probably about right, but who knows
I think Fix is a finalist unless Vito get #2 seed and Crookham gets the #1 seed

I think 165 is to high for Olejnik. I would guess Messenbrink & Hamiti will out place him
I think the rest 174 - 285 are close. Plott isn't beating Keck.

I don't think they will score a lot of bonus points either.
