ISU/NDSU meet Postponed

https://cyclones.com/news/2020/1/18/isu-ndsu-wrestling-dual-postponed.aspx

Due to inclement weather, and travel considerations for both the Iowa State and North Dakota State wrestling teams, the wrestling dual between the Cyclones and Bison scheduled for Sunday (Jan. 19) at 2 p.m., has been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date.

Wondering if the team made it home last night with the closure of I-29 in South Dakota??

Minutes of your life you’ll want back

Was listening to a podcast and one of the hosts said in passing “those will be the minutes of your life you’ll wish you had back in the end” in response to some regular thing someone did (I think it was in reference to the amount of time people in fandoms spend ******** about the thing they claim to love) and it got me thinking more broadly, what is something you do daily or very regularly that you’re going to wish you had those minutes back at the end of your life?

Other than posting on CF. That’s the low hanging fruit that we all know we’ll regret.

blowouts in basketball

I coach a jh basketball team thats just learning the game for the first time and arent very talented so they get beat pretty badly most games they play. I took issue with a coach that when his team was up by over 40 points he still had his starters in with the last 3 minutes left to play. I called him on it during a game and he took offense (we played them twice and he did it both games). When do you guys think is a good time to pull out your starters in a blowout and show sportsmanship?

Money Market Investing and New Home Purchasing

As of the 27th of this month I will have paid off all of my student loans.

I'm looking for investment options that are inline with my short-term and long-term goals. My net take home is $52K and my Haverkamp apartment rent is $1,050.00/mo.

Long-term wise I have a Vanguard Index fund and my I'm in the process of setting up a SEP-IRA through Principal.

Short-term I'm wanting to save up to buy a starter home. I know I need to put 20% down for a home that ranges between $150-$200K. I'm in the process of setting up a Capital One 360 saving account that has 1.7% APY.

My research suggests the Capital One Savings account offers the best Money Market Account interest rate that I can qualify for (assides from BMO Harris bank at 1.95% APY). I'm choosing a money market account simply for the fact that you can continuously contribute to it and close it at any time without any fee's.

My question is what others are doing or have done when looking to maximize their ROI and what deals are out there that I may be missing out on. Also if you've done business with BMO Harris bank or what have your experiences been?

Thanks in advance.

Friday OT #2 - The Case Is Mistaken Identity

Have you ever mistaken someone for someone else in more than just a passing wave or nod, or been mistaken for someone?

I think I was maybe in 9th grade, and my family was at Dairy Queen getting our ice cream on. This was back when they used to have hard serve in buckets in glass cases. We were all looking at our selections and getting ready to order - I don't know if it was the heat combined with the light, or what, but I all of the sudden started feeling really dizzy. I walked over to my dad from behind, and leaned on his shoulder to make it through without passing out... only to find out that it was not, in fact, my dad, but some nice random middle-aged man with the same stature and haircut. I remember it all of these years later because it was SUPER embarrassing to assault a rando middle-aged man in a DQ at age 14. That's how you get on the news, or in a song by The Police.

What are yours?

Friday OT #1 - Losing My Religion

Thanks so much to @Farnsworth for another great thread idea! (PLEASE never hesitate to send them to me, or feel free to guest!)

What is something that you lost in the past but still think about?

I'm not going to steal Farnsy's examples, because they would definitely not be relevant to me. Mine is much simpler - my husband gave me a beautiful gold necklace with a pearl on it, and I wore it on a work trip. I apparently left it in the bathroom at the hotel and they said they never found it - because the necklace did not make the return trip. It still makes me sad, even though he was kind and got me a replacement.

How about you?
