Iowa Football Schedule per 247

247Sports posted a new article discussing the game that each top 25 team will have "circled." They describe Iowa's schedule as "brutal." How in the world do these writers come up with these opinions? Logic would suggest that the difficulty of every teams' schedule is relative to the strength of that team. The Hawks will likely be favored in 8 of 12 games, possibly 9 depending on Wisconsin. Brutal? Hardly.

Now Kansas has a brutal schedule. They will maybe be favored in 2 games out of 12. How would you like to play a schedule like that? As a player or coach at Kansas, you look at your schedule and think, "Oh no, this is going to be brutal!" I wonder if you could realistically call the schedule for any top 25 team as brutal. Very few, if any.

I guess they write articles that way in order to appease their readers. The last thing you want to say is, "Most of these teams will pretty much have a cakewalk to 8 wins."

Arch Madness 2020: Drake's March to the Madness

Arch Madness is one of the best mid-major tournaments this time of year. The Missouri Valley Conference is routinely one of the best Mid Major Conferences as well, having graduated several of its members to larger conferences. Here is what you need to know for this year's conference tournament, tipping off tonight:

Link to Bracket: http://mvc-sports.com/feature/20Arch

The Teams

UNI 25-5 14-4 1 Seed First Round Bye
Loyola 21-10 13-5 2 Seed First Round Bye
Indiana St 18-11 11-7 3 Seed #6 Seed Missouri State Friday 8:35 PM (1-1 Reg Season vs Mo St)
Bradley 20-11 11-7 4 Seed #5 Seed Southern Illinois Friday 2:35 PM (2-0 Reg Season vs SIU)
Southern Ill. 16-15 10-8 5 Seed #4 Bradley Friday 2:35 PM (0-2 Reg Season vs Bradley)
Missouri St 15-16 9-9 6 Seed #3 Indiana State Friday 8:35 PM (1-1 Reg Season vs Ind St)
Valparaiso 16-15 9-9 7 Seed #10 Evansville Tonight 8:35 PM (2-0 Reg Season vs Evans)
Drake 18-13 8-10 8 Seed #9 Illinois State Tonight 6:05 PM (1-1 Reg Season vs Ill St)
Illinois St 5-13 10-20 9 Seed #8 Drake Tonight 6:05 PM (1-1 Reg Season vs Drake)
Evansville 9-22 0-18 10 Seed #7 Valparaiso Tonight 8:35 PM (0-2 Reg Season vs Valpo)

The Situation
Despite recent success, there is only one indication that this conference will accommodate an At-Large bid this season; UNI, with a NET Ranking of 36 would have a solid case were they to slip in this tournament, but the next highest ranked teams in NET are Loyola (98) and Bradley (109). Iowa State, just as a reference, is currently 91st. That means, if anyone else wants in, they've got to win the whole damn thing!

Recent History

Bradley was the team that made a run in this tournament last year, making the NCAA Tournament despite being the 5th seed. In 2018, it was the 1 seeded Loyola running the table, en route to a Final 4 Appearance. Fun year. In 2017, 2 seed Wichita State won the title match against 1 seed Ilinois State in their Arch Madness curtain call.

ISR Slant
As mentioned above, locally, UNI has a great shot at an At-Large bid. If they were to get upset in their first game against either Drake or Illinois State, they could potentially be left out in the cold, but in my opinion, they are safe either way. On the other hand, Drake is in must win mode if they want to reach the Big Dance for the first time in 12 years. I always want Drake to do well, but their path goes through the Panthers. We'll see if they have any magic in the tank after a somewhat disappointing season IMO. They are 5 point favorites for the game against 10-20 Illinois State tonight, and should win, setting up a noon game tomorrow vs UNI.

Feel free to add any info to this. I'm going to be glued to my TV for the next 3 nights. Might take a nap for the 2nd game tonight though. Evansville is winless in conference....they have got to be one of the worst NCAA teams in recent memory.

Another family dynasty?

I think we are all aware of the Joens family with Ashley and next year Aubry being Cyclones. And how about their younger sister (Kelsy?).

But I was reading about Lexi Donarski and see she has a sister Macy, a freshman, who recently had a double double with a game with ten points and eleven (yes, ELEVEN!) steals! Who ever heard of eleven steels in a game?

I do not know if Macy has Lexi's potential but it is intriguing!

FS: Big Twelve Tournament

I have 3 all session wheelchair seats to the Men's Big Twelve (Wed-Sat) and 3 wheelchair seats to the Women's Big Twelve semi-finals game Sat only. Price $350.00 (less than half price). Men's tickets would have to be transferred by axis ticket application. Women's semi-final tickets I have. Anyone can sit in the wheelchair seats. Saturday Women's semi-final games are at 11 and 1:30 with the Men's final at 5:00. Makes for a nice fun filled ending for Saturday. Reply here or private message me for any additional information.

For those who don't subscribe, it was a well written piece that makes the case to begin the discussion about adding six teams from the west coast. The AD from USC is apparently open to the idea, especially when you consider the amount of money they could make from a merger. I'd fly out to see Iowa State play in the Coliseum or the Rose Bowl.

@NWICY doomsday prepping asks: So what is the proper margin whoever manufactures the coronavirus vaccine should make?
JC:
Is this vaccine for the respiratory illness or to remove urine from Corona beer?
Pants: $0. People shouldn’t profit off of life saving medicine.
GTO: Enough to cover manufacturing, R&D, distribution, and trials should be enough to cover all their expenses. Anything on top of that would be considered profit. How much profit should they make? That is the question that nobody has ever been able to answer.
GTO: Urine in your Coronas is an actual issue?
Pants: “Urine in Your Coronas” is my favorite Kenny Chesney song.

@mdk2isu with a follow-up to last week’s CF Civil War question: What about the war will be 'civil'?
Pants:
We’ll all shake hands before and promise not to leak each other’s nudes after break up.
JC: I’ll shake hands but I make no promises about not leaking each other’s nudes.
GTO: The glove slapping across the face and the challenge to a duel at dawn should make it “civil”. Unless you do this:
EqualTepidHoopoe-max-1mb.gif

GTO: Are we leaking each other’s REAL nudes? Or photos of our stunt penises?
JC: Here’s my opinion about the leaks. Stunt penis for me. I’m over 50 so nobody wants to see my stuff. Stunt penis for Pants. No matter how much he yammers on about “perspective” you can only make one of those little button mushrooms look so big. GTO - We’ve never met so I‘ve never had a chance to check out your junk. That decision will have to be up to Pants and yourself.
Pants: My penis is usually used as a stunt penis for other people anyway. I don’t know if I could pass off for yours though, GTO.
GTO: a little bit of spray tan might do the trick.

@ImJustKCClone coming to terms with the fact that she never makes deadline: This can be for next week:
1) What's your over/under on how many name-changes @Gunnerclone 's "dear so&so" thread will undergo before it dies a natural death or is closed by mods?
2) What was the original name of the thread?
GTO:
I would say at least 3-5 more times before the presidential election. Original name of the thread? Dear Abby.
JC: I have no idea what this thread is. Maybe it’s in the cave. That being said, I can respect any entity that changes its name frequently. Who doesn’t want to occasionally imagine themselves living someone else’s life, being a spy or a rock star? As for the original name of the thread we need to keep this in mind. @Gunnerclone lives in Ohio so it was probably misspelled.
Pants: It’s slowed down, so I’ll say two more times. And I THINK it was “Dear Moderates” but I was busy at work so I didn’t see it until 11 pages in.

@CloneLawman making this too easy: For the next time around...caption this photo. (OR take it and photoshop it into something better)

JC: New Era launches its new line of clothing geared toward “the curvy man”.

How a HS Career Translates to College

Hey guys,

Recently, I have seen A LOT of discussion invade many threads comparing a high school to future college success. The big one is the debate between Xavier Foster and Bowen Born. Both are fantastic players (at least in high school), but one is seemingly leading his team to the state championship while the other is already out before he even got to Des Moines.

You'd think that the one leading his team to a State Title is the best in the state, but he is not. He's a two-star committed to a mid major. The other is the best player from Iowa since Harrison Barnes (don't @ me with Weiskamp crap).

I remember watching tape of Carson Schleker, Darius Lee-Campbell and Jakolby Long and thinking they were going to be All-Timers to put on the Cardinal and Gold, while I thought others like Willie Harvey and Naz Long would be wastes of scholarships.

So I want to ask you guys. How much does the HS Career matter?

Deadline to sign up is tomorrow.

Iowa State's (Not NCAA) Tournament Chances

Considering if we win tonight and win the final game Saturday. Our record would be 14-17. How many wins in the Big 12 tournament would it take to be considered for one of those different initial tournaments (CBA, or even NIT). If we play Wednesday and make it to Friday we would be 16-17. Make it to Saturday and lose we would be 17-18. Obviously if we win Saturday we would be 18-17 and dancing. What do you think or does it not matter how far we get we must win out the Big 12 to go dancing, lose and we go home.
