Prohm?

I have been a Prohm supporter since he has arrived in Ames. However with the amount of money he is making my expectations are that the basketball program would have more stability than what it is showing.

The concerning part for me is does he have the ability to make connections with the players he is coaching? Does anyone else have the same concerns?

Favorite Cyclone Football Memory?

In an attempt to bring up some positive news. What's everyone's favorite cyclone football memory or experience?

Top 3 currently are

1. 2017 TCU game, I know it wasn't a sell out but the tailgating / atmosphere that game was awesome.

2. Alamo Bowl Trip, the Cyclone take over at the River Walk, The pep rallys with massive crowds was awesome.I know the game wasn't the outcome we wanted but overall still a fantastic trip.

3. 2011 Oklahoma State game, just watching the fans not give up hope after going down early then on side kick was still such a crazy call. Gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

Lets blow this thread up with some positive memories!

MLB: For Cub Fans

I didn’t see a thread related to this yet, so my apologies if it has already been discussed, but I stumbled on a new channel the other day. Marquee Sports Network (channel 664 on DirecTV. Sorrry...don’t know the option for cord cutters, but do think there is an option on YouTubeTV).

It has been showing classic Cubs games, and it’s awesome. Watched the 1979 23-22 game against the Phillies the other day. Sosa hitting 61 and 62. 2016 NLDS game (Baez homer in the bottom of the 8th to win 1-0; great pitchers dual between Lester and Cueto).

Kerry Wood’s 20 K game is on Friday at 6:00.

It’s awesome for the Cub fans out there (and I know there are a lot on this board).

Just curious how many people are actually working remotely and how many are just doing their own thing. Its an anonymous poll. No shaming, I just see lots of people talking about honey-do lists, gaming, streaming, etc.

I personally am working from home, as our office is on mandatory telecommuting for everyone to the extent possible, with distancing measures for anyone that must be onsite (alternate shifts, more sure desks are 6+ feet apart, etc). I am basically a data analyst, so as long as I have my laptop and a VPN I can work anywhere.

Centurylink help

I decided to upgrade my internet speed to 100mbps, based off the fact that my wife and I will be working form home soon. I opted for the self install, because I already have centurylink installed in my house.

Now here is the issue, my new modem requires me to connect a DSL cable to a phone jack. I don't have any phone service at my house. My existing modem has a CAT5E Ethernet cable plugged into the WAN LAN jack. This Ethernet cable runs from my modem to the exterior of my house to a box on the side of my house. I tried plugging this cable into my new modem replicating the existing set up, but it did not work. Can anyone give me some help with this? Can I convert this CAT5e cable to DSL with some kind of converter?

Virtual driving tour

While social distancing, I accidentally stumbled on something that killed more time than I expected. It was fun, but a little melancholy. I basically spent the first 22 years of my life in the same smaller town in Iowa. Since graduating from ISU I've lived in several states, all far from my hometown, for the past 30 years.

I got back home to visit family every couple years, but less frequently over the past several years. I keep up on things in my hometown and read a story about a local police situation at an address I didn't recognize, so I popped it in Google maps. I realized I knew the area because it was near a spot in the river we used to swim as pre-teens. The memories of that "swimmin' hole" and that time of my life rushed back.

Even though I've been back over the years, I decided to take a virtual driving tour around my home town using Google Maps as my car. I followed the routes I would walk or ride my bike, from the house I grew up in, to the swimming pool, through downtown, around the neighborhood, to areas I played, went to school, and places I hung out and got into trouble. As I toured the city, so many great memories came back to me that had escaped me for years. Although I've seen much of it in person, so many things have changed over the years, but so many other things have stayed almost exactly the same.

So if you find yourself looking for something to kill time while you quarantine, give it a try.

On That Note - In This House That I Call Home

Hello OTNers and welcome to another weekly music thread posted alternately by @CycloneRulzzz, @cyclones500 and me.

A theme, searching for a theme...

We decided to lay off the St. Patrick's Day theme for this week. I just did a disease themed OTN based on the COVID-19 crisis 3 weeks ago. So I struggled to find a timely topic for this week.

Since we're mostly all hunkered down at home we decided to make the topic Houses and Homes. So any songs with titles, lyrics or by artists with "House, Home, Condo, Apartment, Trailer, Cabin, Hut, Abode, Castle, Wigwam/Tipi(TeePee), Igloo" or any other noun that is a place where people live are fair game. (Let's leave out "A Van down by the River")

Last weeks offering was "I Love My Calendar Girl" which can be found here:
https://cyclonefanatic.com/forum/threads/on-that-note-i-love-my-calendar-girl.255306/

With no sports maybe this will get more action than a normal OTN post. Who knows?

Saw this elsewhere and posted it in one of the CoronaVirus threads. I hope it lightens the moment.

Local restaurants offering delivery/takeout

Figured we could use a thread to keep a running list of establishments around the metro if people are still wanting to patronize during this shutdown.

My idea is to list local restaurants other than the obvious fast food/chains that do drive through or delivery

I got an email from Exile on Sunday saying their brewpub would be going to to-go orders or curbside pickup

Hilton Renovations still on?

I haven't heard much about the Hilton renovations lately. Last I heard was that it was going up in the April Board of Regents meeting for final approval. I really hope this gets approved and is desperately needed.

I went to several Creighton games this year, and while the CHI Health Center is a different class facility than Hilton, the fan experience is much better. At CHI fans typically watch the entire half, not bailing to get concessions or use the bathroom during the action because they know it will be too busy. They mingle, have a beer, buy concessions and catch up during halftime. The Hilton concourse is really a cluster during packed games.

Expand Hilton's concourse and you would have the potential for a similar fan experience. It's time to turn on beer sales too, for the $$ and fans. I'm not aware of a basketball facility where it's been a failure.

Coronavirus: Group Therapy

John Oliver on Last Week Tonight gave me this idea. He took a moment to be selfish and vent about selfish reasons why the Coronavirus is impacting your life. I fully understand that there are serious economic and health impacts that will leave longstanding damage to our world, but this is a place to take a moment to vent...

I will go first, my wife and I welcomed our first child in 2019. We were looking forward to celebrating his first birthday in April. Now this isn't going to stop us from celebrating it, but it is going to severely change the plans. We will likely shrink down the size of the group and worst of all my wife's grandma won't be able to attend he only great-grandchild's first birthday party. This just popped into my head today and it really bummed me out thinking about it.

Alright now it it your turn...what do you need to vent about?

buying a treadmill

With the gyms closing down, I'm looking to buy a treadmill, as I usually only have time to run early morning/late night. Does anyone have any recommendations for one they've used? I checked out a Peleton, but didn't need/want the paid classes. Hoping for something I can stream Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, etc and not be impossible to move.
