Getting Started Metal Forging / Knife Making

Thinking about starting this as a hobby. I don't want to spend thousands to get started, so thinking about building my own forge based on the video below.

Any other CF'ers do this? Any tips for getting started? Do/don'ts and must haves?

I think it would be fun to learn how to make knives and other tools specifically. That, or I've been watched way too much Forged in Fire while working from home.

HUNTERS on Amazon Prime video

Watched the first two episodes last night. Pretty dark, although involving and creative. It's 1977 and a small (8 or 9) group of people have banded together to find and kill ex-Nazis living in the US.

Al Pacino is the leader of the group. His voice keeps getting hoarser, and the eastern European accent he uses makes it tough to understand him at times.

I don't know that I could binge watch the series - it's tough stuff - but I am definitely in for more.

On to 2021

Ok boys—it’s time to do this. Some of you know more about these issues than I do, but I’m assuming 1) everyone with eligibility is back; 2) everyone stays healthy; 3) the summer olympics gets kicked to 2021; and 4) we finish strong.

Here goes:

125– Mackall—AA/8th

133–Gomez—AA/5th

141–Parker—AA/4th

149–Degen-National Champion

157–Carr—AA/2d ( undefeated until final match).

165– Who knows —Assume qualifier but no points.

174–Colbray—AA/8th

184–Broderson—Round of 12

197–Coleman—Round of 16

285–GG—AA/7th.

Team finishes 5th.

IRacing

Not sure if anyone has started looking into this with no sports. Sunday NASCAR is going to be doing a race with current and former drivers that will be broadcast on FS1. I think this will be a really cool replacement for some form of sports.

I also find it fascinating from the standpoint that anyone of us could technically participate in it (while lower levels). I’ve been trying to look into what it would take to get started and frankly am finding it overwhelming. Has anyone else looked into iRacing.

Ways to help the overwhelmed medical field

I thought it might be nice to have a place to post links to or examples of ways to help. And I worry that just posting links in the other threads will result in them getting buried due to how fast those threads are moving.

I feel like a lot of people want to help, but are concerned about coming into contact with the virus in the process. Humans are a creative bunch and I’m sure there will be many ideas generated to share.

Ways to help service industry types

Anyone come up with anything to help our friends in the service industry? I have a musician friend who is coming over next weekend to
Perform for my ten person party. He plays guitar and we are all getting beer and chipping in ten to twenty bucks per person to have him play. Anyone have any other ideas?

Kolat new Navy coach

I see that Kolat has been announced as the new wrestling coach for the Naval Academy. After reading his coaching bio it got me wondering why he had gotten a shot at a more prominent school? He looks to have paid his dues as an assistant for a number of years. One would think given his wrestling acumen and time served in assistant roles and the HC at Campbell he would be a wanted commodity.
