What is your business idea?

Ever want to start a business? I may be able to help. I have been a part-of or founded a couple startup. I would love to help some people get off the ground.

Drop your idea here.

Note: Any advice/thoughts I give is what I would do and is my opinion. I am not an expert in every space; I know software well.

NOTE: It does not (always) take a ton of money to start a business. Every business I've started cost me less than a $5,000 to get a first product launched.

I'll post some great tools here:

Memorial Day Under Quarantine?

We're trying to think of something fun to do with our kids on Monday that still socially distances and everything. We went to Jester Park on Mother's Day, and are trying to think of something other than just walking trails and such (especially since it looks like it will storm).

Does anyone have any fun plans they can share for ideas?

Wanna get freaked out?

A friend of mine was asked by her brother if she would walk his dog while he was away. She saw something odd and took a picture. She just sent this to me and asked me if I see it.

Picture 1.jpg

Of course I was looking on my phone and thought she was talking about the dog so I didn't notice anything so she sent a shot that was zoomed in a bit

Picture 2.jpg

Noticed the backward hand and then I zoomed in some more.

Putting in a privacy fence on two sides of our property. First thing I did was call to get the utilities locate (was surprised by there first question if I was using explosives or not.)

It got me thinking though on which side of the fencing should be on your side or on your neighbor's side. The finished side or the side with the supports. I know the height limit is 6'. Since I live in Ames there is no permit needed for installing a fence.

Most Random Place You've Run Into A Cyclone Fan

A little fun Friday thread.

What's the most random place you've run into a Cyclone fan? I'm not talking about seeing someone in Memphis during the Liberty Bowl, but a place where Iowa State didn't have anything going on (sports or academic) and you've run into a Cyclone fan?

My wife and I were in the Bahamas in March of 2019 (Big 12 tournament weekend, actually) for a nice little getaway. Was in a brewpub, decked out in Iowa State gear waiting for the Championship game against Kansas to start, and a married couple wearing Iowa State gear walks in.

Friday OT #2 - The Projects

Have you been working on any quarantine projects during this time?

I gardened for the first time in my life, and am trying to make our front lawn presentable. We got some furniture for our front porch to try and complete the look. I also got a buffet for my Mother's Day project that was a project for Janny and the kids to put together, but I've been decorating around it, and in our bedroom. I also have done a few little art projects - photography, a decoupage tray, some embroidery.

Have you started or completed anything?

Friday OT #1 - Foolish Child (Part 2)

Thanks so much to @MeanDean for this link! We're both pretty sure that we've done this theme before, but I can't find it or remember what we called it then. Anyway: LINK

What are your things that you misheard or misunderstood when you were a child? Like, I remember hearing things were sold "on the black market," so I assumed it was some furtive swap meet in a back alley somewhere, with someone selling stolen car parts and driver's licenses in booths.

4077th

Had a spirited debate with the 10 year old on this topic last night. The better character on MASH?

Col Potter or Col Blake?
BJ or Trapper John?
Radar or Klinger?
Mai Burns or Maj Winchester?

The obvious right answers are Blake, Trapper, Radar, and Burns.

Passive-Aggressive CF Reactions

I apparently shocked my husband here yesterday by using the "useful" reaction on a post of his to passive-aggressively call him a tool. I honestly can't think of more than a half-dozen times I've used that earnestly.

Am I alone in using reactions to be P/A? What other ones do you use? (Obviously the "dumb" one is just straight-aggressive.)

What's growing? The garden thread.

I've been posting in the lawn care threads but I wanted to start something on gardening.

So fanatics, what's growing in your garden this year? I'll go first. My garden size roughly doubled this year as that was the plan. Luckily I got seeds back in January before Covid, as it's very difficult to find seed now.

Strawberries - Albion variety, The first few are ripe today 5/21
Blackberries - Chester thornless
Tomatoes- 6 varieties, mostly F1 hybrids, 12 plants total. All indeterminates
Pole Bean- Blue Lake FM-1
Green Bean - Derby, and BlueLake
Zucchini - Black Beauty and Sunstripe
Yellow Squash - Saffron
Pattypan Squash- Sunburst, and heirloom green
Watermelon- Sweetie Pie
Sweet Corn - I can't remember
Asparagus - martha washington
Peppers - assorted types, mostly bells but a few jalapenos
Garlic- some mystery variety a friend gave me years ago
Peas- don't know the variety anymore. I save seed each year.
Malabar spinach- waiting to plant until it gets hotter
Basil
Cilantro
Sage
Mint
Thyme
