As much as we all hate Nebraska, this was damn impressive. Also testing my new ESPN video integration:)

What Heacock Said

I was listening to this weeks pressers, and a couple things Coach Heacock said rather offhandedly jumped out at me—especially when taken together.

First, almost in passing, he mentioned the “new” elements to the defense that a player (Malik Verdon, iirc) was going to have to learn.

Adding new wrinkles to the defense—when some offenses seem to start to figure it out—seems like a really good idea to me.

Then, at a different points, also rather offhandedly, he mentioned lining up in “four and three man fronts”.

Pardon me for not relistening to get the exact quotes.

However, we haven’t spent much time lining up on four man fronts the last few years. Hardly any, it seems to me.

But putting these two disparate comments together…could some of those “new wrinkles” involve a four man front? I mean, we all know what a monster Dom Orange is going to be, but JR Singleton is one of a mere handful of recruits CMC labeled an athletic “freak” when he signed.

Could this be a way to get the two of them (along with, say, Tyler Onyedim and Ikenna Ezeogu) on the field at the same time?

Just wondering. Guess we’ll see before too terribly long.

Tailgating Stories

Another post made me think about the fun times, and often stupid things done at ISU tailgating. I miss those days! Living 1100 miles away has made it impossible to spend game days at the stadium.

Let’s hear some epic tailgating stories!

I’ll start with one of my favorites.

We always snuck beers into the stadium as undergrads. This usually meant keeping them in you waist band or in your socks. Generally, each of us could get 4-6 beers into the stadium. Well, one particular game I made it through and was going up the east side stairs to the student section. About 3/4 of the way up a can fell out of my sock and proceeded to roll down the entire stairway. I looked back to watch the disaster unfold and see a security person pick up the can and just shake his head at me. I still got the other 5 beers in.

Cyclone's who played professionally

With the start of the season literally right around the corner I figured now was as good as time as any to post my updated version of former Cyclone's who got paid to play (professionally, that is). Personally I like this set up much more than ones I've posted in the past, not to mention it's much more complete. There will be duplicate names for players who played or were drafted by multiple leagues. As always I'm human and make mistakes so if you see one, point it out please. I hope you enjoy! Next I'll be attempting to find all Clones who were only members of practice squads or off-season rosters. I've also included ISU players who have coached professionally.

How does tailgating work

How do tailgates work? Is there a CF tailgate? Can my girlfriend and I be at ya tailgate?

When I attended ballgames a decade ago, I was a god-awful KURE student radio broadcaster eating from the media room, or volunteering with my folks to take tickets at the Alumni Center / Cyclone Central tailgate (which I hear isn't happening this year.)

I'll be back in the homeland this weekend with my girlfriend, who wants to see what all the hype is about. She went to school in the UK where college athletics and rivalries are ... not a thing. It took a few months but she stopped telling people I went to "Iowa" and not Iowa State *screams*

Anyway, would like to show her what all the tailgating hype is about but don't have a tailgate. Have currency, beer, etc. though. Help a not-savvy person out?
