Tiebreaker points return this year. A reminder regarding tiebreaker points: If your team wins and covers you gain an extra bonus point. If you take a undefeated team who is the underdog you gain the point for them covering plus another bonus point. As the season goes on the number of teams undefeated being a underdog greatly diminish so take advantage while you can.

Kids - School Grades

Our oldest is in 7th grade this year, the first year they actually assign letter grades. Before, it was just the fall, winter, spring standardized testing results.

How do you/did you approach balancing a push for good grades with just doing their best? What were suitable grades for your kids?

Our kids are incredibly intelligent but struggle with ADHD, Anxiety, Depression so there's a bit of a balance act we have to figure out and just realized as the first grades came in that we hadn't figured that out yet.

New NIL agreement between 4 FB players and Iowa Pork Producers Association

Coincidence? Couldn't have been planned any better I think.
News release (couldn't find it online yet) and link to a short video

Iowa Pork enters NIL agreement with Iowa State football players Purchase, Moore, Hamann, Bacon

September 25, 2023 – The Iowa Pork Producers Association is partnering with four Iowa State University football players to promote the pork industry. Through an NIL (name, image, likeness) deal, Cyclones Myles Purchase, Tyler Moore, Tommy Hamann, and Caleb Bacon are leading the new “Purchase Moore Hamann Bacon” marketing campaign. The goal is obviously to push Iowans to buy pork products. More specifically, they want you to purchase more ham and bacon.

“After the ‘
Hamann Bacon’ photo went viral on social media following the Cyclones’ season opener, we knew we had to jump on this opportunity,” said Trish Cook, president of the Iowa Pork Producers Association. “These four young men are not only great football players, they also have strong academic records, and great last names! We couldn’t be more excited to work with them in this fun initiative to publicize Iowa pork.”

October is National Pork Month, aka Porktober, and this promotion will be part of that monthlong celebration. The Iowa Pork Producers Association will run ads on social media featuring the four players surrounded by delicious Iowa pork and strategically using their names to encourage pork consumption.

In conjunction with the NIL partnership, the Iowa Pork Producers Association will donate $1,000 of pork to each player’s food pantry of choice.

“Iowa pork producers and pig farmers care about their communities, and while this partnership is a fun way to promote our industry, it’s also one way we can give back,” Cook said. “Food insecurity remains an issue for many people and we’re glad to partner with these Cyclone football players to help their local food pantries.”

Myles Purchase, Tyler Moore, and Caleb Bacon were all named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team in 2022. Tommy Hamann was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 2022. The Iowa Pork Producers Association is pleased to work with these student-athletes to promote pork and the work of Iowa pig farmers, while aiding local communities.

“It’s something unique and it feels good to be able to do something for a good cause,” said Cyclones Defensive Back Myles Purchase, a junior from Denver, CO.

“It’s a really crazy way to incorporate all of our names and I think it’s a great way to promote Iowa pork producers too,” said Cyclone Tight End Tyler Moore, a redshirt sophomore from Des Moines.

When the picture of Tommy Hamann and Caleb Bacon together on the field went viral on social media, the players had several friends sharing the photo with them.

“I think it’s just hilarious being able to use play-on words on our last names in a super clever way to promote Iowa pork and it’s just an all-around great opportunity to bring us all together,” said Hamann, a redshirt freshman defensive end for the Iowa State Cyclones.

Caleb Bacon has heard jokes about his last name for much of his life. “People said I should take advantage of it, and it just came to fruition in that picture. I think it’s just good for our teammates and I’d like to thank the Iowa pork producers for the opportunity.” Bacon is a sophomore linebacker from Lake Mills, Iowa.

Iowa is the number one state in the nation for pork production and nearly 150,000 Iowans are employed by the pork industry.

National Coordinator of Officials Steve Shaw says FG in Ohio game was "no good"

I just thought to bring closer on the matter, you folks would be interested to know that Steve Shaw, the national coordinator of officials, has reviewed the "controversial" FG attempt against OHIO and concluded that the officials were correct. It was no good.

You can see his analysis here (starting at the 4:42 mark):

I'll be rooting for you guys for the rest of the season. Nice seeing you take down Okie State on Saturday.

Photo Gallery from Iowa State's win over Oklahoma State

Hello!

I hope you're all enjoying your Sunday and still enjoying that feeling of a Cyclone win.

Here's my full photo gallery from yesterday :)

Enjoy!

Jaylin Noel Appreciation

Jaylin Noel has been inconsistent at times, but we need him in the lineup to win games. I think we win the Ohio game if he wasn't out.

The TV announcers noticed how much thicker he looks this year. He's listed at 5'10" and 200. But I don't think he's lost any of his quickness. Don't throw him WR screens behind the line. Instead let him catch it over the middle and on the move. Becht like Purdy is really good at dinking and dunking and leading the receiver. Loved what we saw yesterday from Noel and Jackson. Those guys CAN get separation. And Becht has enough elusiveness and awareness to find them.

Punta Cana Travel Question - Carry On Luggage

Headed to Punta Cana and trying to figure out if you can bring a disposable razor in a carry on coming IN to Punta Cana. I know it's not allowed when you leave as it is on the list of prohibited items published by the Punta Cana airport for carry on luggage, but I assume that is when going through security to head back to the US. Since TSA allows disposable razors, shouldn't it be fine for traveling there and then just throw them away before heading back to US? I have googled my life away trying to find an answer to this question with no avail so coming to CF for real life experience answers. Thx in advance!

Time for Sanders to be the featured back

Sanders was a breath of fresh air in the 2nd half (4th quarter). He made an incredible cut to spring the big gainer and the TD was all him bouncing it to the outside. That's more vision and awareness than we've seen the entire year from Norton or Sama (who has a bright future).

With the offensive line struggling to open holes we need the element Sanders brings to the table. It's time to give him a shot at being the feature back and see if he can do it consistently.

This is the most hope I've had for the run game all season.

Recommendations for Browser, Anti-Virus, and Ad Blocker (New Laptop)

Finally got tired of putting up with this ancient (8-9 YO) laptop and a new one is on it's way.

Reaching out to the vast CF knowledge and experience base to get input on recommended browsers, anti-virus, and ad-block stuff.

My old one had the default browser being Firefox. It has Norton which I've come to hate; pop-up warnings for this or that, that you can have them scan for, then if you want to pay extra they will remove them. Just feels too much like bloatware. Don't need pop-up commercials from my anti-virus, just something that works quietly in the background.

I was using AdBlock Plus.

TIA

PS: No recommendations from the Google-verse please.
