Hawkeye Media having difficultly with win

not gonna blast them here, but they are having a hard time with the reality seen on the field. IMO it’s really this; Yep ISU lost, but they were the best looking team on the field.

Many exposed themselves in Twitter.... mostly calling the end of the series. Which is what we knew would be the cry as things shift to competency.

Ash Tree Advice

If anyone is a tree expert here, I'm looking for some advice. I have an 8 year old Ash Tree (or what I believe to be an Ash based on some internet research). It is in my front yard and is finally big enough to provide some shade, landscaping, curb appeal etc. But not so big that it would be a major project to remove it.

Do I cut my losses now and remove\replace it. Or let it continue to grow until there is an issue? I don't want to treat as it is costly.

Is there even a chance it won't be affected by the EAB?

Lack of a running game

It seems like when we have a RB start getting into a groove, that player stops getting the ball. Kene has been banged up a bit, but there have been times where he has looked pretty good and then doesn't get touches. Lang was having a decent game against Baylor early on and then didn't get any touches again until late. Croney… well he's just not very good. And I don't think Hall and Brock should get into any games if it's just for a play or two. Brock got in for one play against Baylor. What was the point of that? One of those two, if not both, should redshirt if they're not gonna get carries.

Here are the carries by game, not counting QB's:

BAYLOR (15)
J. Lang - 6
S. Croney - 6
K. Nwangwu - 3

ULM (22)
S. Croney - 9
J. Brock - 5
B. Hall - 5
K. Nwangwu - 2
J. Lang - 1

IOWA (9)
K. Nwangwu - 6
J. Lang - 2
B. Hall - 1

UNI (42)
J. Lang - 14
S. Croney - 13
B. Hall - 11
K. Nwangwu - 4

I personally don't feel that the RB's are being utilized properly. With Kene's open field abilities, why is he not being used out of the backfield in the passing game? Same with Hall.

Body Shop - Rust Repair

Looking to the CF community for advice...

My truck has some decent rust on the rocker panels (paint peeling off in several spots). Very sad for a 6yr old vehicle, but apparently a common issue with this model.

My google searching has indicated that it is possible to DIY a repair (with or without welding)... but it looks very time consuming and I don't have any experience with body work. I'm hoping some CF'ers have had experience with local shops and can recommend one to get an estimate. I'll let the $ figures drive whether I try to repair it myself - sounds like it could be $1k-5k based on how bad it is under the panels...

On the other hand, if you know someone who does body work on the side, I'm all ears.

I'm tired of all this non-football stuff. Let's get back to the season. After our dominating performance last weekend, I think we have a shot at 10 wins. If I'm being conservative, I say 9, but I think we can get 10. What say you?

Play calling and personnel problems

The sky is not falling, but between this game and the Iowa game I’ve noticed our personnel is a bunch of pussies and plays too conservatively until we are losing by a lot and it’s usually that our offense does just enough to rely on our defense too much to close out the game. I wish this personnel would wake up and let our offense sling it from the start of the game because we would’ve beat Iowa and Baylor if our personnel were not a bunch of pussies and let our guys sling it from the start. Thoughts? 2-2 is unacceptable to be honest.

Not to be a Debbie Downer but prevent defense and ground game

Two losses by a total of 3 points isn't the end of the world so I don't want to be a drama queen but my observation of the Baylor game

1 - It isn't limited to Iowa State but I consistently see teams in the last couple minutes go to the prevent defense. That is the best way possible to allow the opposing team to move uncontested down the field. Add one more game to the long list of games lost when a team did exactly that.

2 - Lack of a ground game. No question Purdy is a rare high level qb recruit who doesn't come along every day but without the threat of a ground game opposing teams are going to defend the pass and Purdy will have trouble finding open receivers. Coaches are going to have to run the football. If they need to adjust to a power running formation then that might be the way to go. You can still pass out of those formations and more likely to have a receiver isolated. Can't pass into teams dropping 8 into coverage.

Things that bother me...

1. The line for the Baylor game stinks. 6-7 point movement on this line with almost all the money going on ISU. If we cover, casinos take a bath on this game.
2. Can we please eliminate all threads dealing with Iowa, I have CyHawk fatigue.
3. Big XII power rankings, when some teams haven’t even played a conference game.
4. Running back threads- we are averaging 5.5 YPC this year vs 3.4 the previous 2 years. We will be fine.
5. Where did the Midweek Mailbag go? I have questions that need answers.

Historical opportunity with no downsides

The upcoming game against Iowa provides perhaps the biggest opportunity for isu in decades. The hardwork of the last two seasons is reflected in the top-25 ranking, gameday exposure amplifies this hugely, and the match-up is against the instate rival with big implications for future trajectory of the isu program.

If isu can live up to the ranking by knocking off Iowa this time around, it pretty much imo completes cmc's efforts to rid the program's historical reputation. So I expect cmc has put the off week to good use and will swing boldly for the fences.

Tactically, I expect first half Purdy will play pocket qb taking deep shots against Iowa's thin and suspect secondary (particularly safeties). In the second half, Purdy will transform into becoming extremely mobile against a more fatigued D. Defensively, isu must blitz all game long.

All said, losing against Iowa won't hurt much but the upside to winning is bigtime.
