I don't defend him but he's a better person and coach than Roy. I'm sure they're both cheaters to the extent that the NCAA almost encourages its marquee programs to cheat.

Having sat behind both of them at Hilton I can tell you that Self at least tries to get his players to act like decent human beings while Roy would encourage his players to act like thugs toward opposing players and fans.
