Prohm Press Conference Notes

Says Griffin has taken the biggest steps this offseason. In fact he said he has taken huge steps.Said he has improved rebounding and making shots, especially 3s.
Says he would like Jacobson to be able to shoot around 35% from 3 and Griffin 35-38%.
Conditt is the x-factor for this team. Need him to be a dominant factor on defense and said he has got to take a big step this year.
Nixon has been dealing with a concussion and a groin injury. Has missed about half the practices so far.
Says the schedule is probably the most difficult he has had at ISU.

Ames/DM area European make mechanic

I'm looking for a mechanic who would be knowledgeable with older model European cars. Specifically, I have a '79 Volvo 242 DL. It is in excellent shape, but hasn't had a thorough once-over by a pro in many years, so I want someone who could be trusted with something that old.

I've previously owned some late model Volvos, which I've taken to Campus Garage as well as a real nondescript place that used to be up in north Ames on Reliable Street called Imported Cars. The old man who ran that place was great with Volvos, but I think it has shut down???

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

By the way, the glorious old Volvo I'm talking about looks exactly like this... :)

On That Note: Out of This World (part 2)

Welcome back to "On That Note," a CF music series hosted by @MeanDean, @CycloneRulzzz and me, cyclones500.

This is part 2 in a series about outer space. Last week, we focused on planets. This segment is devoted to sun, moon and stars.

Post your favorite songs with a title or lyrics that include the sun, the moon and stars. If the theme pertains only to the lyrics and isn’t in the title, include the line(s) with the reference, unless it’s obvious. We’ll allow submissions of tracks by bands with a sun, moon or star in the name.

IMPORTANT — The following are off-limits:
  • Song titles/lyrics that are extensions of basic sun/moon/star -- e.g., no moonlight, sunlight, sunshine, sunny, Sunday; moonshine, starlight, et. al.
  • Also, stick to the astronomical context only. For example, use of “star” to mean “movie star” or “rock star” does not count.
Semi-related aside to contemplate: Why do we have names for moons of other planets in the solar system, but we call Earth's moon 'The Moon'?

With that, time for lift off! My first few selections are coming in a separate post.

Was Kevin Wilson the other finalist?

There was a big deal made in the DM Register about Pollard savoring the fact that one of the finalists for the job was still unknown by the public. Was OU offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson the other guy?

Wilson last year was asked to interview during Bedlam week. He won't say which school, but it was Iowa State. Wilson asked the Cyclones to wait, and they didn't, instead hiring Texas defensive coordinator Gene Chizik.

I'm bored tonight, but it's something to wonder about.

INSIDER: Some thoughts on Iowa State's QB recruiting/situation

A few quick hits today just for my forum followers ... not gonna promote this anywhere else.

1 - Hearing that Re-al Mitchell could be the guy in the Joel Lanning role next year - on offense (he won't be playing LB). They love him that much as a runner. Heard he is the second fastest guy on the team already.

2 - I am now planning on Kempt being back. It isn't official but there'd have to be an odd turn of events for this to not happen (knock on wood).

3 - Campbell just fell in love with this Purdy kid. Wasn't an active "go recruit over Re-al" thing. I think Matt will comfortably use multiple QBs in the future as he sees fit, like we saw last year.

FloRadio Podcast 416 - Cyclone Preview

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/flowrestling-radio-live/id961774064?i=1000453875804

Here’s the link to the latest episode of Flo’s podcast. Talk about the Clones starting at the 12 minute mark and end at the 37 minute mark as a part of their ongoing preseason top 20 breakdown. Pretty extensive 25 minute discussion of a lot of topics that have been talked about on here. Every team they had previously broken down only got 10-15 minutes of discussion, so there’s national intrigue in terms of what’s going to happen this year. Everyone seemed to be pretty bullish on the team and the potential they have. Enjoy!

On That Note : Royals

Welcome back to On That Note, a weekly music series hosted by @MeanDean, @cyclones500 and myself.

Last week's topic was More Cowbell! Review it here:

https://cyclonefanatic.com/forum/threads/on-that-note-late-musicians-2018.244509/

This week our theme is looking at songs and lyrics relating to the theme of Royalty i.e. (King, Queen, Princess, Prince, etc.) We aren't looking for song by artists with a royal title in their name. Obviously there are many songs that include references to titles of royals and you are free to post them. If you could find songs that have a direct tie or are about royalty that would be even better.

choose 2 teams

Having read through the thread here and another copy cat thread on another site that shall remain nameless, figured a poll was fitting. mods please merge if possible. I put every team mentioned in each thread minus a few that don't fit my definition spelled out below

rebuild definition: a team expects to win 7+ games year in and year out.

because of that definition, i left out teams like nebraska and tennesse who can probably get to that level fairly easily compared to the teams on the list. teams like nebraska have unrealistic expectations and will probably never reach heights of years past but fans expect it.

consider:
recruiting grounds
other teams in same state (recruiting competition)
other teams in same conference/division (poor arkansas/Rutgers)
academic standardsn (tough go vandy)
geographical appeal (lets face it, midwest is tough to recruit to)
facilities
stadium capacity/fan support

ISU vs Minnesota Scrimmage Scheduled for Oct 19th

Guess these aren"t "secret" now. STrib reporting.
http://www.startribune.com/gophers-...e-in-a-closed-scrimmage-in-october/560902692/

" Oct. 19 scrimmage at Iowa State, sources told the Star Tribune on Friday."
Recaps and stats are released after secret scrimmages, but the schools can’t announce the scrimmage or allow fans or media to attend.

ISU vs. Tech - PFF Players to Watch

PFF loves them some Purdy...

Iowa State @ Texas Tech
Players to Watch:
Brock Purdy is the player to watch in this one as the true sophomore has come into his own as of late and is putting forth elite grades once again this season. He’s the owner of the nation’s highest-graded game as a passer (against UL-Monroe) and against the Texas Tech pass defense that ranks 98th in coverage grade, should have quite the afternoon. The Red Raiders can score with the best of them but it will take a few more big-time catches from star receiver T.J. Vasher to do such a thing against the Iowa State secondary.

Expert Prediction:
Iowa State is the better team and needs a win to stay in the hunt for a Big 12 title appearance. With the Oklahoma schools on the horizon, the Cyclones come out shaky but right the ship in the second half and cruise with another dominant game from Purdy.
