A few quick hits today just for my forum followers ... not gonna promote this anywhere else.

1 - Hearing that Re-al Mitchell could be the guy in the Joel Lanning role next year - on offense (he won't be playing LB). They love him that much as a runner. Heard he is the second fastest guy on the team already.

2 - I am now planning on Kempt being back. It isn't official but there'd have to be an odd turn of events for this to not happen (knock on wood).

3 - Campbell just fell in love with this Purdy kid. Wasn't an active "go recruit over Re-al" thing. I think Matt will comfortably use multiple QBs in the future as he sees fit, like we saw last year.

I don't see how you could use Mitchell the same way they used Lanning, which was mostly in short yardage or red zone situations. A big part of Lanning getting yards was how big and strong he is, hence the name Lan-ram.

Correct; not the same way. Joel was a north-south bruiser for short yardage and goal line situations. Re-Al will be perfect for drives where we want to burn clock on the ground. Defenses can no longer key on just Montgomery with Mitchell at quarterback. No one worries about Kempt taking off on the zone read.

If I'm Zeb, I'm wondering what my future is at Iowa State with the possibility of Kempt coming back and all of the comments about Re-al.
Not sure this is true..... I think Kempt and Noland will battle for #1 if Kyle gets the 6th year seniority puts him on top, but you know it will be a competition for who takes the top spot. Also the season is a grind, look at this year we have 4 players at Qb through the year. you need all the depth you can get.

Campbell has used 2 qbs even when he was at Toledo. Zeb shouldn’t be worried. Also, Campbell has shown to play who he believes has earned the position.

I am happy if they get Re-al some snaps so we always have a couple qbs with at least a few snaps of experience.

can you explain for us what the rational and history is for KK to get a 6th year?

NCAA added a new exception to get an additional year of eligibility a couple years ago; if a player is at a school and gets a new coach whose system is so different that the player doesn't have the same chance to play then they may be able to get another year.

It is awesome to have good competition at QB. Potentially, we have two starters returning. We believe both are capable. Fans will argue the benefits of one over the other. One led ISU to some historic wins including wins at OU and against TCU. The other one is a young stud who has shown a bunch of potential. May the best man win.

It is also cool that we have a freshman QB that has been on campus less than two weeks and the staff already sees him having a role next fall.

This is so different than most years of Iowa State football.

Could you image a backfield with Mitchell, Montgomery and Kene at the same time? That could be a really potent combination.
