How much is a single user worth?

I'm big fan of the CycloneFanatic podcasts but I live on the other side of the country and only get to Iowa maybe once a year so the odds of me being able to go to a Cyclone Fanatic advertiser is not high. With everything going on recently I realized I would be very unhappy if CF podcasts suddenly went away.

I have been a Patreon patron for a while now but was wondering just how much is a single listener worth.

Not sure if this is to detailed into the running of the business, just curious.

Edit: And I just realized I posted this in the wrong forum whoops.

Neutralizing stretch 4’s

With Pemsl hitting the market it had me thinking: could Steve start the next wave of great basketball at Iowa State by reversing course on the spacing offense back to a more traditional 2 big man look? Envision Pemsl on the left block with Solomon “Monster” Young on the right block, that could wreak havoc on weak stretch 4s trying to defend down low in the big 12 and beyond...

Friday OT #1 - I've Been Walking Central Park, Singin' After Dark

Just kidding, nobody is allowed out to Central Park right now.

What do you miss most from pre-COVID days? Sports? Sitting in restaurants? Always being able to walk in and buy toilet paper?

I actually miss alone time, which sounds counter-intuitive. I'm working one week in the office, one week at home. During the weeks at home, I love my children more than anything on Earth... but they are EVERYWHERE. Someone is always talking to me or touching me, which I generally love, but I need some alone time every day. I'm a much better mother, wife, and person on my in-office weeks.

Stansbury Loses His Mind: Breece is Better Cheetah than Cheetah is Breece

https://cyclonefanatic.com/2020/03/...s-who-would-be-more-successful/#disqus_thread

Jared has apparently quarantined all his brain cells this time. There is simply no way that a 120 pound cheetah - even a cheetah that artificially understands the game of football, is going to play well, or probably even survive without injury, a single college footballl game, much less transform the Cyclone offense beyond what it currently is with humans.

A) Even the lightest defensive player in Division one will have 40-50 pounds on a cheetah. Some linebackers will have 100 pounds. God help the cheetah who smacks into a DE.

B) Even with practice and a knowledge of strategy, the cheetah's physical instincts are poorly suited to the game. Check out cheetahs tussling with just 2 or 3 men (or even 1!), much less 11, in the field of play:

The cheetah's launch vs. opposition (as opposed to an open sprint) results in an instant dead ball: BOTH forearms touch the ground. The cheetah is MUCH more likely to lose yardage behind the line of scrimmage just by attempting to make a cut, than he is to dash to daylight while maintaining a live-ball stance. This is, of course, completely ignoring the fact that it is an equipment violation to play without a regulation mouthguard, and a cheetah could not carry the ball in its mouth AND maintain a mouthguard.

C) Let's give Stansi the benefit of the doubt - clearly he's worshipping at the Chester Cheeto Church of Cheetahs - and say that his fantasy of the cheetah out-Breecing Breece to the end zone on nearly every offensive play is correct. Too bad! The Cyclones still lose nearly every game! The problem won't be the points scored (8 pts per end zone - because the "automatic cheetah" would make 1pt xps stupid strategy) - but in the dismantling of the Cyclone defense.

No defense can overcome a massive time of possession deficit, and the cheetah "every play scores" scenario guarantees that the Cyclone defense would be on the wrong end of the time of possession: possibly 55 minutes to 5! Eventually, the opponent would be scoring on every possession.

"Too late," cries Stansi, gripping the handrests of his Throne of Lies, "Cheetah Cyclones already lead in scoring and will continue to score automatically everytime they possess the ball. The bad guys will never catch up!"

Wrong.

See, in football, there's a little thing called "the onside kick", and even if it only has a 10% of success, the opponent will attempt it now after EVERY scoring play. Why not? The Cheetahclones are going to score automatically in 5 seconds whether they start with the ball on the 25 or the 50. So, with the opponent's offensive chances possibly tripling or quadrupling against a completely gassed defense, by the 3rd quarter, the calculus turns in the opponent's favor: the Cyclone lead begins to steadily erode. This doesn't even account for the fact that onside kicks fail so frequently because of their infrequent use. As demonstrated by the Atlanta Falcons last year, good onside kick plays that have been well practiced succeed at a much higher rate.

Front-running is great in football, but if you could promise me a half-time lead or 55 minutes in ToP, I'm taking that ToP every time. When Coach Campbell had to decide between Breece Hall and a cheetah with only one scholarship open, he made the obvious right choice. Breece Hall > cheetah in every possible facet of the game.

Come on, Jared. Didn't you ever learn that cheetahs never prosper?

HBO Documentary “The Scheme”

Has anybody watched this yet? I watched it and it was interesting. Some parts I thought were s stretch, but it’s a strange story how the FBI essentially we’re pushing the whole pay the coaches angle. Also, it’s still strange that Greg McDermott was paying players.

I am sure it goes on a lot, but people like Miller and Wade to do a press conference and lie just bothers me.

Calling all Auto Insurance Experts

I've been shopping around for awhile, simply because Progressive started to fleece me after a little one car accident I had on an icy road in Feb of '19. The best quote I've gotten is from GEICO. Now, the kicker is I don't have a GEICO insurance agent anywhere remotely close to Dubuque, where I live. How big of a deal are we talking about here?

My Dad and Father in Law both think I should shop local for car insurance, talk to my insurance agent face to face etc. Is this some old fogey, boomer mind set or not? When I suggested it was a generational difference to my Dad (I got the GEICO quote online, obviously, and have only spoken to one of their agents over the phone and email) he told me it was simply a ME and HIM difference.

Lastly, the GEICO quote matches roughly what Progressive had me at coverage wise. The wife's policy through Farm Bureau has a little bit higher coverage, but also a higher deductible. But maybe her coverage is too much, or maybe mine isn't enough. What is an easy way to tell?

Kirk Ferentz lawsuit

https://www.apnews.com/f47db22d3a8e...Ferentz-faces-an-unusual-rival:-his-neighbors

A Feb. 6 trial is scheduled in a lawsuit that pits the nation’s longest-tenured college football coach and his wife against the three other families who live along a private road outside Iowa City. A judge is expected to decide whether the Ferentzes breached a 2001 agreement and trespassed by planting trees and installing landscaping items that neighbors say encroach onto Saddle Club Road.

The lawsuit is part of a long-running dispute in which Ferentz and his wife, Mary, have been portrayed as difficult, stingy and privacy-obsessed, clashing with their image as friendly philanthropists who support the Iowa Children’s Hospital.

Nebraska has spent $27,915,514

From Big Red Today

LINCOLN — No athletic department spent more money on firing football and men’s basketball coaches in the past 15 years than Nebraska, a new study shows.

Since 2005, Nebraska has fired football coaches Bill Callahan, Bo Pelini and Mike Riley, and men’s basketball coaches Doc Sadler and Tim Miles. That cost NU a total of $27,914,154 in severance pay, according to NCAA financial reports obtained in a public records request by AthleticDirectorU. That ranks most among 52 power conference schools, just ahead of Auburn, Florida, Kansas and UCLA.

In 2018 alone, Nebraska paid $11.9 million in severance payments. They were one of five schools to top $10 million in payments that year, including Arizona State, UCLA, Florida and Tennessee.

The bill mounted after more than a decade of controversial decisions by athletic directors and chancellors, dating back to the firing of Frank Solich in 2003. His replacement, Callahan, was fired in 2007, one year after the Huskers won the Big 12 North and finished with a 9-5 record. A 5-7 disaster led to Callahan’s outing, and $3.13 million buyout. New Athletic Director Tom Osborne replaced outed Athletic Director Steve Pederson and hired Pelini. After seven seasons and a 67-27 record, Pelini was fired by new Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst. Pelini’s buyout was $6.54 million and paid in monthly installments of $128,009. The final payment to Pelini went out in February of 2019.

Eichorst hired Mike Riley, who was fired three years later after a 19-19 record. Eichorst was fired first, after Nebraska’s loss to Northern Illinois in September of 2017. New Athletic Director Bill Moos fired Riley in December. Nebraska paid Riley a lump sum of $6.2 million.

In payments to football coaches the past 15 years, Nebraska is second only to Florida, paying a total of $24,340,701 to Callahan, Pelini and Riley. All three of those coaches were fired within one year of receiving a contract extension.

Doc Sadler was hired to run Nebraska basketball in 2006 and was then fired in March of 2012 after signing a contract extension the year prior. He was paid $3.4 million in monthly checks from March of 2012 to June of 2016. His replacement, Tim Miles, was fired last March after seven seasons. His buyout was $2.52 million, which is currently being paid out in $105,000 installments until March of 2021.

The average severance pay per fired Nebraska coach was $1.86 million, the study showed, which was fifth among the 52 schools. Tennessee's severance pay average was $2.8 million per coach, with the firings of football coaches Derek Dooley and Butch Jones and basketball coach Bruce Pearl.

In total, the study found, schools paid more than $491,000,000 in severance pay since 2005.

Nebraska currently has the highest-paid football coach in school history, Scott Frost, and the highest-paid basketball coach in school history, Fred Hoiberg. Frost is 9-15 in two seasons at Nebraska, the fewest amount of wins in two years in more than 50 years. Moos gave Frost an extension in the middle of last season. His $5 million a year salary ranks 14th in college football and fifth in the Big Ten. Hoiberg’s first season was the worst in 60 years with a 7-25 record. His seven-year, $25 million deal placed him as the 11th-highest paid coach in college basketball.

Frost’s buyout would cost Nebraska roughly $30 million. Hoiberg’s buyout would be $22 million.

An unwelcome flash from the past: ISU-MSU 2000

Was looking for who reffed the 2000 ISU-MSU game out of curiousity and came across this site:

2000: MSU vs Iowa State - Controversy?

Most fans are typical Big10 fans. A couple liked Nurse, but most comments are definitely Hawkeye style arrogant.

What I find funny is I would bet at least 50% of MSU basketball fans are MU football fans. Think NU-Creighton but worse.

I thought I would post this because with the bowl season fast approaching, I want ISU fans to remember to cheer against all Big10 teams and enjoy their losses. Really enjoy them. Nothing puts happy holidays over the top like the Big10 being shown for the fraud that it is.

Oh, and I found out who the refs are here:

Iowa State Cyclones vs Michigan State Spartans - March 25, 2000 - College Basketball - StatSheet.com

I noticed one of the refs doesn't really ref anymore, one does somewhat, and Curtis Shaw still sucks.

Recruiting updates?

It appears that we are involved with a lot of guys this Spring to fill our four scholarships. I was wondering if anyone CW knew if we had some guys who were on the verge of committing or were likely going to commit. Knowing this is a big offseason it would be nice to see one or two rides gets spoken for soon before we are left with scraps.
