Sprinkler Service

I’m looking for a company to service a sprinkler system at a house in Clive. Rain King used to handle it but they got bought out by A+ Lawn and Landscape. A+ is one of the worst companies that I’ve ever done business with, so I need another company that can service the system as far as repairs and yearly start and winterize service. Does anyone have any recommendations? Feel free to DM me too.

Movies or shows you came back around to.

So Jurassic World is on.

It's the scene where some big dino's on the loose and a bunch of pterodoctyl type of things are attacking the commons area. The people are panicking like they can't believe they vacationed to a place with dinosaurs that had a history of issues and things are going badly.

Anyway, I'm one who saw the OG JP in the theaters, and thought it was bombastic. As time went on, I came to realize that while it was groundbreaking with its CGI and all, it wasn't that good of movie, with a bunch of stupid characters like most monster movies.

And then the other ones were kind of similar. But then I've come back around to enjoy the absurdity of it including Jurassic World.

What are movies or shows/franchises that you had similar experiences with?

I'd put Independence Day up there. It was all the rage as a blockbuster, but it in the end it's kind of a clunky B-movie with marginal effects, but I like it more now with just that perspective.

I Need a Mass Texting App

I am working with a club of about 130 members.

I want to be able to send text messages to all 130 members individually so they can reply individually and not to the group.

Looking for a free or inexpensive app to do this from my iPhone.

Have used ‘East Message’ but it commonly gets contacts mixed up and messages go to the wrong people.

TIA

Possible Rule Changes

I'm unfamiliar with the rule change process. Anyone know when this happens? I'd love to see something different done with how the match stops immediately on a challenge. We had several guys get bad calls because of a brick that I believe was intentionally thrown to stop the match and limit points.

Any other rule changes you'd like to see?

Places to kayak

We are starting to have more free time on our hands now that the kids have grown too old for all the weekend sports. Decided to buy some kayaks this weekend and took them out on Ada Hayden today. The kayak launch there is great! Our plan is to take them out once a week or so but we would like to explore other places to go. We know there’s Big Creek, Don Williams, Greys Lake, Easter Lake, Racoon River Park, and the river but what are some other options fellow Fanatics have taken their kayaks out on and enjoyed. We don’t mind taking day trips and checking out other parts of the state as my wife loves exploring the nature in new areas. Saylorville seems like it would be too busy with boat traffic but maybe there are parts that are better for kayaking. Appreciate any recommendations as we will try to make it to as many new places as possible this summer.

Pellet Grills

I’m looking at a Traeger 22 or 34 type pellet grill. Anything to look at outside of Traeger for a similar or cheaper price? I’ve had an electric and and LP smoker and both were junk. It will mostly be used for smoking since we have a Weber gas for everyday stuff.

Rank potential joiners to the Big 12

With all of the rumors around the PAC 12 finally failing and the ACC teams getting restless I was wondering how people would rank the potential newcomers? This is just for fun, as we know there is a GOR and the ACC teams would have a hell of a time getting out of it. It could end up the Big 12 only takes two from the PAC and maybe takes some from the ACC. Obviously most of the top tier teams would be grabbed by the Big 10/SEC but it would just be interesting to see how the Big 12/Iowa State fans would value them. With that being said here is the list of potential teams:

PAC 12

Arizona
Oregon
Arizona State
Washington State
Utah
Colorado
Washington
Stanford
Oregon State
California

ACC

Miami
Virginia
Duke
Clemson
Pittsburgh
NC State
North Carolina
Wake Forest
Syracuse
Boston College
Virginia Tech
Florida State
Georgia Tech
Notre Dame
Louisville

G5

UConn
Memphis
San Diego St

Why OL Development Has Lagged Behind

OL vs DL

While we still have a bit of “off-season” left (especially before the first of the big OV dates tomorrow), I thought I’d take a quick note at the roots of why Eli Rasheed’s DL has developed so much faster than the OL.

This totally aside from the fact that developing OL usually takes longer than DL.

The answer, actually, is right there in CMC’s first two recruiting classes.

Let’s look at those classes, DL vs OL.

‘16
Jamahl Johnson DT 6’1” 319
Enyi Uwazurike DE 6’6” 250
Josh Bailey DT 6’3” 270
JaQuan Bailey DE 6’3” 235
Jerrion Nelson DE 6’2” 245

JC
Justin Stewart DE 6’3” 225

This ‘16 group was an interesting assortment of connections. Jamahl Johnson was a CPR commit. Enyi was a Toledo recruit who was a big academic risk. And JaQuan was arguably only signed away from Virginia Tech because of this brother.

That’s three contributing players right there.

A year later Ray Lima, Matt Leo and Kamilo Tongamoa were added. Lima was a fixture, and Leo and Tongamoa both saw snaps.

Now, over to the other side of the ball:

‘16 OL

HS
Sean Foster OT 6’8” 285
Keenan Forbes OG 6’3” 281
Josh Mueller OL 6’6” 275

JC
Oge Udeogu OG 6’4” 310
Karson Green OL 6’5” 290

So many swings and misses. Sean Foster was the only eventual contributor, and that wasn’t all that many starts across six years. Forbes was a straight up parallel of the risk signing Enyi—with the polar opposite result. Udeogu was chronically injured, though he was successful elsewhere as a grad transfer—and he and Green added zero help.

The only contributors added in ‘17 were JC Josh Knipfel and HS Colin Newell. Nothing wrong with those two, Knipfel paralleled Lima—but he filled one of five spots. In those two first classes, they added a grand total of three contributors.

Depending on how you define “contributors”, the DL had six on the same time period. Four of them major contributors. And that’s magnified by the simple fact that as Jon Heacock’s defense evolved, his three man front only requires 3/5 as many players as the OL needs.

Oh yeah…and in Year 3, Will McDonald was signed.

And this is the root of the OL’s slow development, right here. Had OL recruiting scored better early on, the room would established credibility sooner, and be in vastly better shape now.

Well, it’s getting there. It just took longer to upgrade recruiting…and of course, as mentioned, those guys take a bit longer to develop.

And yes, of course Coach Rasheed had something to do with it. ;)

RECRUITING: Pierce Mooberry set for Tuesday camp

Pierce Mooberry is in a good spot with Iowa State coming into Tuesday's prospect camp:

Quaron Adams questions

I remember being so excited about this guy’s potential when he committed to us…. has anyone heard anything about how he has looked in practice after his first full year and one spring??

He has to be one of, if not the fastest and quickest players on the team. I could really see him making some plays in the slot and running some jet sweeps and counters, etc. Also potentially returning punts and kicks.

Somewhat like Tyreek Hill on the Dolphins. Obviously not that good, just that type of player.
